Altrincham FC First Team / Re: i feel sorry for gary scott

As for the left back thing, we didn't learn anything we didn't know after we played Tamworth in the cup - if we come up against a fast winger we will struggle.

Yes the goals came from mistakes (including our goal). At the end of the day though there's probably people all over the pitch that make mistakes, but people only remember them if they cost a goal.

Certainly I would hope we can strengthen our squad now there's no debts and a bit of cup money. If we can't outbid other Conference clubs, perhaps we can at least outbid Mossley or Stalybridge now.

Altrincham FC First Team / This Yeovil cup record thing.

Whilst their cup record is obviously something they can be proud of (or perhaps they should be dissapointed they were non-league for so long), their record is no longer relevant, any more than Northwich's "oldest ground record surely? Likely enough other former non-league teams have beaten as many league teams in the FA Cup as a non-league team - after all Spurs won it as a non-league team.

They need 1/4 million by Wednesday or will be wound up. I think.

Also they played Alty in 1977, apparently.

FFS Graham is frustrated aswell. And the sort of personal comments he sometimes has to put up with are more hurtful than some of you might think. He's only human.

Are you?

Just to point out some facts (to whom it may concern) which I think still remain relevant.

We are one of only a small number of Conference teams who only train two nights per week.

We (apparently) have the lowest playing budget in the Conference - certainly one of the lowest.

We had a preseason disrupted by not knowing which division we would be in.

We have yet to play a bottom half team at home.

We have got three draws away to bottom half teams.

We could be out of the bottom four tomorrow.

We are no lower than at the end of last season.

We are not in any financial trouble or potential financial trouble, as opposed to any number of teams in the Conference, and other leagues for that matter, eg Grimsby need to find 200k to survive.

We have not been able to play a settled team.

4 matches at most we might reasonably have expected to win this season, 5 if you count York, wh have had a worse start for them than we have had. Grays, we lost one nil after an injury and a sending off, Halifax and Stafford, we drew, Woking, we lost on a long trip down south (as usual) to a better supported full time team who had just signed two loan players. (Admittedly Woking were quite poor I suppose).
Tomorrow we finally have a match we would definitely expect to do well in, these are the real battles.

At the end of the day, Heathcote has got us from headibg towards relegation from the Unibond Premier to where we are now, and has always said if there was someone who could do a better job for the money we can pay he'd stand aside. I don't think there is though. I think if anyone can keep us up (apart from Halifax etc!) Graham can. We've just got to keep our heads up and get on with the job in hand. I for one would rather be losing to Oxford than playing Alfreton

I think it's a bit early to have a go at the team anyway. With 9 new players we're obviously not going to get the best from them immediately, Carlos in particular looks like I'd expect a player to look like in a completely new team, when he learns to find his team mates, he will make a lot of goals for us. And we haven't played any bottom half team at home yet, Grays was the closest, when an injury and sending off didn't help. We are going in the right direction though with a decent wing player (Logan, who I reckon has the potential to be as good as Clayton Donaldson) and (presumably) a proper left back (Clancy?) at last. Little is still scoring when fit, and O Neil was player of the season last season. I think we can still get out of this. Especially if we get some cup money for once.

« on: April 17, 2007, 04:13:12 PM »
(1st prediction obviously not serious).

My prediction - 2-1 to Tamworthless :)

200 from Alty. Total - not a lot, they weren't even sold out against Norwich were they?

I think we may have to do it the hard way - again.

Incidentally the Danes are apparently the happiest people in Europe by having low expectations for the coming year (and because of that European cup win in 1992).

Always look on the bright side of life - what bright side, Darren?  :D

I agree money needs to be spent on the ground, but we don't necessarily have to spend all of it on the ground do we? If there is money left after doing what needs doing I don't see a problem with spending a bit on the team, although obviously being wary of long big money contracts. Money on scouting and youth development might be an idea, isn't that how Dagenham got promoted?

Probably for debt and ground improvements?

Hoping that the paying budget will increase for next season with most of the debts gone.

Lights, toilets and the terraces need attention.

There are a number of birds nested in the stands which need moving if possible one of them kindly sh*t on one ov the Alty faithfull yesterday
Its not been that persons weekend is it the same one who's car broke down on the way to St Albans

Di nae fash yerself, as they say up North. Hlaf the table is in a pretty similar position, they can not all go on winning runs. If we get a point a game, maybe less, we should have a good chance of staying up. 6 home games and four away games (2 against relegation rivals) left, we can do it.

Come on Alty!

For my money pace is one of the most important things at left back. I well remember at Tamworth when we were ripped apart by that loan player from Millwall. I would even prefer someone to play out of position at left back if they at least had the pace to get near such wingers.

I still say the person who wanted Chelsea and Macc to lose had about as good a day as he was likely to have - heavy Macc defeat, Chelsea can't take credit, Macc player sent off, that Macc fan on tv saying that a goal in a 6-1 defeat was his proudest moment....

Anyway, back to the league. We'll play you again one of these days!
