Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Thanks for everything Rod!

I thought that the writing was on the wall for Rod when Pat McFadden was selected in preference to him at Stafford Rangers last Monday.

To my mind, it's a sensible move for both parties.

Some great Thornley memories, particularly during the first half of the 2001/02 season, when he was at his peak.

I just hope that his move to Witton doesn't mean that Cavell Coo drops back to the bench!

Let's hope that we are writing similarly eulogistic tributes to Carlos Logan in six years from now.

Hand on heart, if you can say that you would turn down an offer to quadruple (reportedly) your wages for doing a job that you enjoy, then feel free to jeer him.

Now, if Andy Scott were to return to Moss Lane, well, that would be a different matter....!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you want an example of the importance of a decent run in the side, look no further than Karl Munroe. Looked woeful for a long time after joining the club but went on to show his true worth after playing more regularly.

And he's now been dropped!

(Sorry - couldn't resist that one).

I do think that you make a fair point.....but Coo probably suffered from being initially assigned to the 'problem' left back position.

However, I think that the fact he has dropped down two leagues does speak volumes.

roxy music
virginia plain complicated start but finishes with whats his name.......chrissy lane

I'm in favour of this suggestion if it means that the gazelle wears a costume and eyeliner like Bryan Ferry or Brian Eno in the early 1970s....

So, has he left the building or is he just on one of these player lending things like the lads at Leek? If hes gone  does that mean someone else is coming in before midnight tomorrow?

Personally, I hope that we have released him.

Not up to the required standard and perhaps we now have a little leeway to bring in someone else.

;D ;D ;D

Ive never seen the forum so negative. Anyone would think we were expecting to be title challengers.

The disappointing performance against Grays last Saturday appears to have knocked the stuffing out of quite a few of the Alty diehards.
Even Ecky has sounded despondent since that game!

I just think that the club really needs a lift at present, whether it be via the arrival of a new forward (or left back!) or a variation of tactics or something else.

Nobody's expecting us to play total football a la the Dutch team of 1974....but a few shots at goal would be nice!

As a genuine fan, you feel for other genuine fans. Scarborough's fans did not deserve to lose their club any more than we'd have deserved to lose ours in recent years (had things turned out differently). I felt bitter about the Ellender affair too, but the bottom line is that the true fans of Scarborough do not deserve the heartbreak of having to watch their club be dismantled bit by bit, trophies and all. I know how I'd feel if I were in their shoes and it was ultimately not their financial mismanagement which ultimately brought the club to its knees.

I did admit to being a heartless swine!

And, as an impressionable young Robins fan back then, that defeat in 1977 really did hurt!

You'd better not be muscling in on my one on one pilates session with Tamsin, Mr Cult!  ;)

Ballers,

I may well just happen to find myself in Exeter to see Tamsin Clake on a Wednesday very soon.
£40.00 for 60 minutes - what a bargain!

Oh, and why don't you sponsor her away kit?

Call me a cynical and heartless swine but I have to confess that I really can't get too upset about the whole Scarborough demise.

Perhaps it's the lingering resentment over the outstanding funds regarding the Ellender transfer.....or the fact that they squandered all that money they collected after playing Chelsea in the FA Cup?

Or perhaps it's just that I still detest them for beating Alty in the 1977 FA Trophy semi-final?

why couldn't you have found one of the Exeter physio instead?  ;)

I have.
But why should I share it with you lot?

Stafford's five year old mascot was almost as tall as Chris Senior!

Certainly looked like a clear penalty from where I was standing.

I went to Stafford thinking that a 0-0 draw was probably the best that we could hope for.....but came away believing that we had missed out on a golden opportunity to record an away win.

I thought that Stafford (except for their two giants at the back, McAughtrie and Daniel) were awful and only got into the game courtesy of a defensive blunder by Rose and Acton.

We had the better of the second half but just don't look threatening as an attacking proposition.
Only Sedgemore's free kick really tested their keeper.

Alas, I suspect that both these teams will be playing each other next season in the Blue Square North.
