I wonder if it's something to do with whatever info you have on there about yourself (e.g. Alty fan).
I had a friend suggestion today who is a certain well known Alty fan, whom I do actually know in person, but we also have zero friends in common.

Facebook does indeed suggest friends based on information in your profile and on groups that you have joined as well as mutual friend syndrome...it's a dark place where you can be leapt upon by characters you thought you'd consigned to the dustbin of personal history (which isn't always a bad thing of course).
