Will those booking take him over a certain level now and get extra games?
Isn't there a date when they all get cleared off?
-
Think its just one Mark ;)
-
Just wondering if the CSC final counts? I do not think it does but just asking.
-
I was just thinking about this
He will probably get two games as it's his second sending off (if it is only his second) - One because it's for two yellows and an additional one for the second Red
The CSC doesn't count because it isn't classed as a first team fixture and the suspension is normally "from all Football until the team have completed xxx first team fixtures"
-
Steve Connors is the reason why we have a chance of staying up.
His commitment for what ever reason is unbelievable.
A DVD of his desire should be be sent to Beesley, Baynes and Twiss.
Never have I seen such waste's of oxygen in red and white stripes.
-
Huge loss for the FGR game.
I'd also quite like to have his babies.

Never a truer a word !

Will Ken play the youth side on tuesday?? Do we want to risk anymore injuries for Sat?? Tuesday is a game we could probably do without

Lets hope he only gets 1 game ban 'cos we are definitely going to miss him.

A further hypothetical then: if he does get two games, would the Fleetwood match count even though he's presumably not allowed to play in it?
-
As the Fleetwood game is classed as a first team fixture then indeed it would count toward any suspension I believe
-
Probably doesn't matter too much either way then - he'll be back for Newport.
-
I very rarely single out poor performances but today Twiss, Beelsey and Baynes were an embarrasement to themselves.
Look at the effort of some of the players today and then look at the effort of those three - they were a disgrace.
Please all three of you if you play again on Saturday make me eat my words.
-
Baynes was a complete waste of time today, too many times he doesnt go 100% into tackles and I felt sorry for Bateson when he was given no cover what so ever when Baynes came on.... Hopefully he will smash in the winner against Forest Green and make me love him....
-
Was the second yellow warranted i missed it?

Extremely harsh !

Couldn't agree more.
Three absolute passengers against Cambridge.
It was like the dark days of Curzon Ashton all over again with them contributing nothing of any value whatsoever.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

Seconded Cult. And Dale coming back has just confirmed what we have all suspected for a while,......that they are lightweight.

Trying to be positive about this,.......at least Connors will be back (it matters not whether 1 or 2 game ban) for the last 3 matches (2 at home), Anthony is back for FGR to replace him (hopefully will put in a massive game to make up for his rashness tuesday), Smithy will be back fresh too for Fleetwood, Bateson settling in now and Shaun must be getting close now to some minutes on the pitch as a sub.
Looking like at least a point at FGR essential to keep us in the running, Fleetwood will be a huge test now, one we might well fail, leaving us the last 3 games to get the 7 points I reckon we will need to stay up without resorting to the cup ;)
Just read this again and not sure its very positive??? ???

My gut feeling is that the ref was thinking long and hard about sending him off for his two footed lunge in the 1st half, but let him off as it was in teh 1st half. So he was already in between a red and yellow in the refs mind if you see what I mean, therefore it didn't take much for the 2nd yellow to come about. I'm presuming he did actually do something as the Cambridge player (who should've definately gone) wouldn't have just launched him to the deck for no reason.
-
I expressed a similar view on the match thread
Nice (but surprising) to concur with Ballers :)
-
Discipline starting to cost us.
Up until Tamworth away no red cards. Since then 7 reds in 17 games!!!

Ballers,
That woeful tackle by Connors occurred early in the second half though and many referees would have issued him with a straight red card for it.
This indiscipline is costing us dearly.
Two players sent off in a week for incidents that occurred about twenty yards into the opposition's half!

The official match report has it at 50 minutes. I don't often disagree with the excellent Mr.Laidlar, but the challenge happened directly in front of me and I'm sure it was BEFORE half time.
-
I was stood at the Golf road end in the first half and moved to the popular side for the second. I was on the popular side when connors got his first yellow (which could easily have been a red). I'm 100% sure it was second half
-
It was 2nd half ::)
-
Connors' first booking timed by me at 50 minutes, so definitely second half. As to how many games he gets, effectively he misses two league games anyway as he wouldn't have been allowed to play at Fleetwood so it probably doesn't matter. A thought - if you put the three stooges (sorry, I mean the three subs) from Saturday together could you make a player out of their combined 'talents'? Somehow I doubt it.

Damn this Alzheimer's ! Can't even remember things properly that only happened 36 hours before ! Having racked my brains and built a reconstruction I shall apologise unreservedly to Mr.Laidlar (whom I should never have doubted in the first place !)
If you put the "3 Stooges" together and combined all their talents, you would have a player who could at least run (Baynes), a player who could win a ball with his back to goal and lay it off (but only backwards or sideways (Twiss), and you could simply discard Beesley as surplus to requirements (which I hope the Club will do before too long anyway). The resulting player just might get a gig at Leigh Genesis.

Has Smith now recieved a ban?

Yes, 2 games, last sat, cant play tomoz and FGR.

I think Stevie is just a victim of his own enthusiasm and desire.
I was stood very close to his first tackle and thought it was a genuine attempt to win back a ball he had just lost control of, certainly wasn't a two footed lunge. The Cambridge player didn't seem to suffer any ill effects either. The second one was a classic six-of-one situation, once the Cambridge player had been booked, the ref had to book Connors as well.
All in all, he was very unlucky. Neither offence was malicious.
Didn't a similar thing happen at Wimbledon?
Given the choice between the way he plays, and some of the rest of the team, there is no contest really

By all means. Baynes is good when he actually wants to be. Beesley shows some vague glimpses of quality.
My word, that will look so impressive on Beesley's headstone:
"He showed some vague glimpses of quality."
What a stumer.

I was stood very close to his first tackle and thought it was a genuine attempt to win back a ball he had just lost control of, it was that yes, but...
certainly wasn't a two footed lunge. you must've been unsighted at best, the flaggers collectively winced on the mausoleum. I'd say 6/7 out of 10 conferences refs would've sent him, certainly Ross Joyce would've.
For me a lot of our indiscipline is brainless without any thought of future consequences. It was almost as if Connors was prepared to pick up that booking, it was that that cost him later on.
Ditto Danylyk on Tuesday, yes his second challenge was brain dead but fine in isolation, it was his booking for dissent (for something that had nothing to do with him) in the 1st half that cost him dear. Almost as if he wasn't bothered about a yellow card instead of bearing in mind that anyone can mistime a tackle and that will seal your fate.
Put it this way, if I heard Danylyk, Connors and Smith got booked I wouldn't be eating any hats any time soon ffs.
-
You wouldn't have had a good view on the Mausoleum. It wasn't a two footed lunge.
-
I had a very reasonable view from the Popular Side and he was not in control of his momentum having left the floor with both feet. This inevitably meant that he was endangering the safety of his opponent, a prime component of any Red Card being issued
To expand on Ballers' point (and mine in the match thread) I'd say 7 or 8 of any 10 Referees at Conference Level would have dismissed him. In fact I think most Parks refs would have parked him too
Mr Barratt was quite lenient all day, hence Steve Connors getting two cautions and the Cambridge guy only yellow for the wrestling throw
-

Yes it was! I had a perfect view as i was stood on the pop side level with the incident and was amazed he didn't get a straight red!
-
Fair enough, for both incidents added together he deserved to be sent off, I wasn't arguing against that. I still don't think either was malicious though, and I didn't see both feet in there, but if others did, I apologise. These things happen so quickly.

Beesley had a better game than usual when moved to centre midfield on Saturday. I'm not saying he was good, just that I was aware he was actually on the pitch for once.
At one point he moved forward with the ball until that hip operation he had two years ago kicked in again... ::)
