Ignoring the fact that its Frank Sidebottom and if this is new then he seems to have switched back to being an Alty fan, look at this...
Its the first item in...got to be around 88 or 89?
Is that a helicopter on the pitch?

Stange blob on the pitch, I thought it must have been some sort of irrigation equipment?
-
You can even see the snack bar on the popular side being used (now its the old stewards hut) but couldn't find the Smith incident :o :o

Trying to work out which game it was against the team in an orange ish strip.
When it pans on the Scoreboard with Frank's head on either side in the corner the date is 5.9.88.
Just checked an old programme and we drew 1-1 at home to Barnet on Saturday 3rd September 1988. Maybe the programme was to go out on the Monday night (5th).
Best I can deduce.

I think that this was John King's first match back in charge after a poor start to the season cost Jeff Johnson the manager's job.If I remember correctly we started the season as follows:-
Aylesbury 1 Alty 2
Alty 1 Chorley 2
Maidstone United 7 Alty 2
Cheltenham Town 2 Alty 1
Looking at that there must be a home fixture missing as I am sure we wouldn't have played three out of the first four games away from home.Jeff Johnson must go down in history as the quickest managerial departure after the start of the season in the club's history!

Its really bothering me this. Why are we warming down whilst an apache attack helicopter is in the centre circle!

I haven't got the programme in front of me but I did notice a lack of home games at the time. It surprised me and I think your list of games is right Flynny. iirc the next 4 games after that were all away from home too!
Very disappointing that Jeff Johnson ended his Alty career like that, he'd done rather a good job at the back end of the previous season, clearly the 2-7 reverse at Maidstone must really have unnerved some board members. Perhaps it was clear that a rebuilding job was going to be needed and in that case JK was needed. I remember us having some moderate players at that time.

I am getting paranoid now...is it only me that can see a huge helicopter in the centre cirlce?
-
Stan Flashman's transport home perhaps?
-
There is no helicpoter in the background.
You are seeing things.
Glad to put your mind at ease.
Seriously yes there is clearly a helicopter on the pitch....maybe we can send video evidence to the conference via youtube and have the match replayed or something?

There IS a tonking great helicopter on the pitch. What the hell's it doing there?
Loving the scoreboard by the way - better than Mansfield's.

I had a Subbutteo scoreboard in the 1950's that was better than Mansfield's !
