More Sodding About with the game
« on: January 17, 2008, 12:05:50 PM »

Just seen this on the BBC website.

I know that some things are missed but they just seem to be looking for ways to interfere for the sake of interfering

Anyone any comments?

At this rate there will be more officials knocking about than players.

Who is going to pay for them all? I thought there was already a shortage of referees?

is this the extra official at each end thing (i havent opened the link). if so it's very logical. contentious goal line decisions are making a mokery of football.

Why are they? Its part of the excitement. A lot of the buzz of football comes from the gasps and frustration. If you are crap like we have been this season you can always content yourself by blaming the ref or saying that with one or two decisions the game would have gone our way.

This is ridiculous. Why are we so obsessed with being censored and monitored at every possible opportunity. Lets leave some room in there for human error and let nature take its course on the beautiful game. we're all adults, we'll get over it eventually, we need these talking points!

I'm a firm believer in the 'everything evens itself up over the season' topic.
How many times in the last few years have we been on the end of an incorrect decision that has benefited us ? a few !
the referee is 'human' and 'humans' do make mistakes, therefore it should be taken into account. Even though i jump down referees throats at incorrect decisions at the end of the day when ive got home i still know they are human.

Its a reasonable idea in principle. I don't know about M. Platini's France, but I believe we have enough trouble getting enough referees & liners as it is. I can't see us having the manpowe for all these officials except at maybe the very top levels.
