Altrincham 1 Oxford 0
by Tony Glennon
12/10/2008

COLIN Little refused to take the credit for Altrincham’s latest triumph after his 99th goal for the Robins ensured they passed their Oxford exam.

The veteran hitman struck for the fourth game running, taking his season’s tally to seven, to give Alty a 1-0 victory which stretches their unbeaten Blue Square Premier sequence to six and takes them surging up to a heady ninth place.

But Little insisted afterwards that Alty’s new-found defensive strength, rather than his own scoring prowess, has been the key to a run which has seen the Moss Lane outfit climb from the drop-zone to within three points of a play-off place.

“We’re defending far better now than at any time since we’ve been back in this division and it’s that, more than anything, which has allowed us to go on this run,” he said.

“We’re not playing that well in other areas, but we are working hard and results are breeding confidence.

“Thankfully, I’ve been able to do my bit by going on a nice little scoring roll, but I’m not getting carried away and neither should anyone else be.

“Realistically, we shouldn’t even be thinking of the play-offs.

“Let’s just get as many points as we can while the going’s good.

“We know from past experience just how quickly things can turn against you in this league.”

Little latched on to Lee Elam’s cross before firing low past visiting keeper Billy Turley in the 65th minute to secure Alty a win that takes their recent points tally to 16 from a possible 18.

Earlier, Alty’s trusty shotstopper Stuart Coburn, had produced fine saves to thwart first Jamie Guy and then Lewis Heldane.

And when Oxford threatened a late equaliser, centre-half Greg Young came to the Robins’ rescue by getting in the way of Matt Taylor’s goalbound effort.

Nice article, but what the feck is that page all about??????

FC United/Non-league

At least give us a level footing media wise.

Out of interest can we find out how many United/City/Anyone else season ticket holders we got through the gate?

Great crowd figure yesterday and a good performance can only help bring back a few floaters. Im still on alty cloud 9 today. Colin is right, we've conceded 2 goals in 6 games, in my wildest dreams that would seem far fetched!

Believe it was about 100.
Add that to the 400 (approx) from Oxford and that still leaves 1300 of us Altry fans. A good turn out.
Wonder what part playing on a Sunday played in that? (and the weather!)
