Indeed many of us have ridiculed Frank for jumping on the alty bandwagon when it suits his drive for publicity.

However I can't see anyone at Alty not wishing Frank a full recovery from this horrible disease....so I wish him all the best....he is part of alty folklore like him or not.

I have criticised Chris/Frank many times for jumping on and off the Alty bandwagon when it suited him.  However this is tragic news.

He lives three doors down from my Mum and she told me this morning about it.  The neighbour who went in to help him is also in shock.  He was apparently getting better (or so he said).

A unique talent that will be missed by many.  I've still got his album I bought in 1989..as I say a unique guy who created his own brand of humour..

I've been following his progress with the cancer on his Twitter & Facebook feeds -  he did seem confident about a full recovery. I am very much saddened to hear he lost his fight. I wanted to take Jennifer on his "magical timperley tour!"

Maybe not quite an Alty legend, but certainly a Timperley legend, this is a very sad loss to his friends, fans & family - my thoughts are with them all.

A wee Frankism for you from his Twitter: recipe for home made lucazade - some sparkling water, a egg, a packet of “cheesy watsits” & access to your mum’s blender…. it tastes exactly the same,…. but looks a bit cloudy with bits in!!! best regards frank sidebottom

I know the alty bit wound a few fans up, but Frank Sidebottom was a unique comedy individual years ahead of his time I am very sad about this news. You will be missed frank, you know you will, you really will.

Terrible news, always had a soft spot for Frank, sat next to him in the Stonemasons a few times when I was younger.

Will be sadly missed.

Whether his humour hit YOUR funny bone or not, this man was a unique talent, and a typical "Great British Eccentric". Another who's left us at a tragically early age.

R.I.P. Frank, and thanks for the laughter.
