ENGLANDS, NUMBER ONE!

"We're here, we're from Altrincham"
-
This'll sound a bit like the Hovis advert but whatever....
Back in the mists of time there was an old boy who used to chant "Zigger-zagger, zigger-zagger Alt-rin-cham"
I was a nipper at the time and it seemed like a magical incantation. In my memory (possibly not in reality) he used to pipe up a just tje right time when the game had gone a bit flat and the crowd were getting nervous and all of a sudden the crowd would be up and start singing again.
When I think back to teh days I first started watching Alty, that's the chant I remember.
I'll vote for "We're here, we're from Altrincham" for away games.

The Barry Crow song made me laugh. It went on and on and on.

A bit off topic but how is kenny anyway, not heard his voice all seasin in fact only seen him a few times at the ground.
He was in the hare and hounds the other week apparently when we were at home - is he disillussioned maybe or another reason?
-
Bless him, Ken Paley is a star however he did not originate the zigga zagga chant. Back in the mid/late 60s a young man from scouse land called "Snowy" used to lead the Golf Road roar - even before the stand was built (just a grassy bank!).
Snowy hitch hiked to home and away games and was a tru icon back in those days when average Cheshire League gates were 2500 and Macc games attracted 4000 plus.
Anyone else rmember Snowy?
Anyone know what became of him?
-
Back in the 70s the best chant was led by amongst others my good self and gazelle..... give us an A, AA etc.
Young Master Bradshaw (about 3 years old then) would also join in!
-
I would walk 500 miles etc.. sung over the half time away at worksop. Good ole Rod Thornley

I saw Kenny in town on Saturday with his ubiquitous Alty scarf - didn't notice him at the game tho

EYES RIGHT!!!
4TH Division rubbish!
We've done it all before
slob slob slob slob (Ok not really a song)
I like the spontaneous off the cuff one offs too like
Primark...primark...(sung at any chav from salisbury/farsley etc)
full time and you're f**king sh*t
I love all the player specific ones and wished we'd had 'em while we were in our heyday...singing champions and cheering goals flying in left right and centre got boring...but you tell the young people of today that and they won't believe you!
-
Paul, Paul, skip to the ball

"He gets the ball and forces an own goal, Andy Andy Green" - away at Southport I think, (obviously) some years ago. Surely someone must remember it?
