Altys best/worst managers of all time are
-
Freddy pye/mark ward?
-
Either way Lee Sinnott is somewhere in the middle for now but has an opportunity to be one of the best.
-
Tony Sanders/Stan Allan
-
Gleghorn kilkline?
-
worst - tommy doc
-
Best - Tont Sanders/ Worst - Mark Ward
Lee Sinnott certainly heading towards worst
-
best tony sanders....worst les rigby.
john king and tommy doc close seconds respectively.
at the moment lee is somewhere around the stan allen / mark ward level for me.....i think gerry quinn was a better manager.
-
Surprised that Paul Rowlands hasn't had a mention.
Sanders is streets ahead of Kingy in my view.
-
Best - Tony Sanders
Worst - Les Rigby
-
Tony Sanders
Tommy Docherty. idiot of a man.
-
best - Pye/Sanders
worst - Sinnott/Williams
-
best - Pye/Sanders
worst - Sinnott/Williams

Jacko, you started this post hoping someone would mention Lee Sinnott. I hate to be the one to break it to you but I don't think he's going anywhere.

your a bad mind reader, i started this to see who people thought was the best/worst manager
-
In 18 years of watching Alty,I've seen 6 managers (King,Taylor,Ward,Heathcote,McKenna and Sinnott). I don't know if I could pick a best and worst out of them, all have strengths and weaknesses.
As for Sinnott being up there/on his way as one of the worst, people seem to have short memories. Yes, the defense situation has been farcical this season, but at times this season I have seen us play some of our best football for many years. I'm not saying he will become an Alty legend, but I wouldn't say he is the worst manager this club has had.
-
Best has to be Tony Sanders that I know of.
Worst has to be Stan Allen - 13 consecutive defeats and I went to every one. Glad there was no forum then..

fair enough nasha, cant really say sinnott untill the end of the 2 year plan ;D
-
Based on my 20 years Heathcote (yes really, a good assistant especially) and the worst Kilkline who just couldn't be arsed. As for Mark Ward he got it wrong playing football in a swamp.
-
Brian Kilcline was joint coach with Nigel Gleghorn for the brief time he was with us. He was never our manager or assistant manager.
-
Although Tommy Docherty appeared to be a poor manager in his time here, it shouldn't be forgotten that he was reponsible for the sell-on clause in the Paul Edwards transfer that made the club a lot of money.
-
best - Pye/Sanders
worst - Sinnott/Williams
To say that Sinnott is one of our worst ever managers after this long is completely ridiculous

Ok Mike just my thinking
But as you disagree would you care to enlighten me, who was worse in your opinion?

Nasha, Kilcline and Gleghorn were so bad you've wiped them from memory!
-
As mentioned before Kilcline and Gleghorn were never managers. They were fist team coaches under Bernard Taylor.
-

Actually Phil it was the Secretary of Crewe who asked us whether we'd forgotten the sell on clause. Mr Docherty was reportedly on a speaking engagement on Scotland at the time
-
I agree that our defence has been a disgrace this season BUT our forward line has been absolutely brilliant, and we have played some fantastic football.
Sinnott can rightly be called for being unable to find non-calamity defenders, but the signings of James Lawrie and Jack Redshaw were first class.
Sinnott worst manager? Ridiculous. On the whole I have enjoyed this season and how anyone can say it has been worse than those dark days of the Unibond I'll never understand.
-
Maybe not our best manager, but I always felt Gerry Quinn's contribution (especially in his first season) was a little underrated. He not only got us to the FA Cup second round but the team he assembled contained a good few players who served the club well over many seasons.
-
best - Pye/Sanders
worst - Sinnott/Williams

Totally agree, ridiculous comments.
-
He may end up being the best/worst no one can say which untill he has finished or got us promoted or wona cup game
-
Sinnott certainly has his fans, from the BLIND school.
How can anyone possibly compare him with some of the GREAT managers we have had, he is technically inept compared with most.
We all have a right to free speech not to be shouted down when we rightly criticise the manager.
All we want is the best for AFC

Agree, don't count the Doc as one of our managers, because he didn;t. ;)

If you want the right to free speech, not to be shouted down as you put it, that's fine.
Might I respectfully suggest however that if you want to recieve the respect that you fell your views deserve then being so overtly disrespectful toward those who don't share your point of view by suggesting that they are blind may well not be the best way to get your wishes fulfilled

Who's said he is one of the great managers??

Are you 10?
Do you think anyone is putting him up there with the great managers really?
-
Best - Tony Sanders
Worst - Les Rigby
Spot on - how to disassemble a winning side in one easy lesson. Dave Furnival anyone?

Indeed.
I'll see your Dave Furnival and raise you John Wood.....

worst - Sinnott/Williams

Not been supporting Alty long enough to really have an opinion on that, but come on, Lee's been here under a year and it's not like we're in a crisis or anything. Give him a chance that's all I'm saying

We'd have been better off with Victoria Wood in goal than that lemon !

ok, but for the record we are currently 8th in the table, if we finish the season 8th that will represent are 4th worst EVER position finish in the non league pyramid

And who was in charge for those seasons where we finished below 8th? A certain Graham Heathcote, who I'm sure isn't the worst manager this club has had.
Stats don't tell the whole story.

of course stats dont tell the whole story
we all well aware of problems we had in the unibond years
but what about now? which stats are not reflective now? have we defended better than the goals against column suggests?

BEST THREAD OF ALL TIME :D
-
Lee Sinnott
-
Can I put in a word for Roy Rees? Really liked him - along with Sanders, King and Pye.
-
Best -Bernard T - just really liked him and he liked the fans too.
worst - kingy - at the end
-
Sanders however I never saw a team managed by him so it would be kingy best tommy doc worst as for the last post Bernard was poor at the end when they didn't pay the team the ridiculous wages
-
best managers pye, sanders, king and heathcote all were great for Alty. worst docherty(publicity stunt) Davies (ex Mac nuff said) Gleghorn and Ward
-
Nigel Gleghorn has never been an Alty manager. The Taylor years were certainly my best time as an Alty supporter from the Chesterfield cup final, the promotion season including 2 that crazy weekend when we won the league and his infamous birthday party. He was also a top bloke. The worst I have seen would be McKenna.
