Title: Weymouth players released! jump on board alty
Post by: Jacko on January 10, 2007, 01:22:32 PM
Would it be possible for us to look at signing any of these released  players? i know a few of them would be pricey ie Aribenne and co,but there worth a look surely

All would more than likely be based in the south, so the travelling might be a bit excessive, plus to be honest, with all respect, some members of the weymouth squad have been at every club thats gone financially tits up in the last three years, and them jumped on to the next big pay day, and for all there supposed talent I wouldnt want them within a million miles of here.

Are Alty the only Non-League club left that Lee Elam has NOT played for?!

If we need a centre back then Luke Pritchard has just been released by Rotherham, by all accounts he was a decent centre back but held back by injury.  It's funny how a few months ago people were desperate for a new defender with Talbot and Band unavailable and Munroe struggling but things just seem to have turned around

probably expensive or too expensive for us ?

Does anyone really believe that we have the money available in our weekly wage budget to sign any player who has been on full time wages this season ? We'd struggle to sign a player thats been on part time wages.

Remember we are still getting out of a financial mess and lets not suddenly get carried away with money we don't have, unless you want to end up like Weymouth ?

As others have said, the kind of players who turned out for Weymouth have "done the rounds" of boom and bust clubs and are not the type I'd want here anyway (even if we could afford them).
I much prefer living within our means with a team that gives the fans 110%.

Come on you Robins!

I reckon someones bound to take advantage of the situation, i do agree about the south thing though, i reckon at this level relocation is a bigger deal to these players,as for wages surely they cant all be on big money, they only came up last season

They've been on "Big Money" and full time since 2005
When we played them in the Trophy they were throwing money at players left , right and centre and we were given little chance at the Wessex Stadium ..

just read this comment from the "History" section of their website ... How true .. How True
On July 3rd 2005 the club turned professional, on a full time basis, thus becoming football's only full time side outside of the National Conference. The hope is that this move will enable us to emulate Grays Athletic and win promotion back to the National level of the game and move forward from there.

Upon Martin harrisons involvement in the club he proceded to sign players on as much as 1,500 a week when they were in the conf south, the same way hornchurch, cowinkidincaly the same cheif exec at weymouth was at hornchurch once hornchurch went bust, after the cold seal debacle alot of players travelled there too, odd i'd say,

Not being funny but the guy owns a hotel chain and i noticed that he was gonna keep signings to a 50 mile radius, but if players were prepared to come on the correct wage he could surely sort out a room for the friday night or something before games he just seems like an odd fellow to me thats all

my mate Rich whos a Morecambe fan will surely be on here so to confirm but apparently Lee Elam moved from Morecambe to Weymouth for an extra £50 (fifty :o) a month. ::)

On the local tele down here in Devon they had the chairman of Weymonth and he said that they would see out this seasons fixtures in the conferance, but that their future lay at a lower level, just wondered if they are going to do a canvey island

shame attendances dictate they could be a very good part time conf club, he just jumped in with both feet too soon, shame...

£100 a month.

Alledgedly.

I hear he's going to Rochdale.

Ho ho ho. another signing on fee for Lee!!

His bleat on SV was a classic. Unfortunately the archive only goes till the end of September, long after he'd gone.

Where's Dean Howell going. Thats the burning issue. Hes even worse than Elam, but at least he got Southport relegated.

Those two individuals are the masters of mercenary "Full Time" Footballers. Impress in pre season, get contract for 3 months. Work hard for 3 months, get pay rise and 12 month deal, become "injured" for 8 months on fat salary, impress in last month, move to another club for signing on fee, impress in pre season.............

This is really bad what Hills been saying on there site, what was he thinking ???
Hill said: "Thev are all massive games now and that is why this break has come at the right time because it will also give me the chance with the transfer window to try and strengthen the squad: Hopefully by the time we go to Halifax we will be really ready to push on."
