XI for next season
« on: July 14, 2017, 11:19:25 AM »

I always like guessing this bit (even though PP knows best, obviously) - perhaps we could do something like this in a very Prem-style 3-4-3:

                                         Hulme
                         Poole                       Johnston

                                 Moult        Taylor
Brownhill                                                              Densmore
                 Jones(?)    Harrison/Hannigan   Lynch

                                  Deasy/Thompson(?)

I've never been a fan of 3 at the back for Alty (memories of the Higginbotham circus spring to mind) but we certainly have the personnel to line up this way with some good balance.

A lot of this is purely speculative of course, depending on a couple more signings and some being shipped out.  Thoughts welcome!

Thoughts? Whats happened to all the players we signed?

Starting with 6 of last seasons squad (2 of which aren't even fit) isn't good enough

The players weren't necessarily the problem - the management and the system was.

A blend of old and new shouldn't be disregarded in my view.

Jerome Wright and Sam Sheridan will be starters IMO.

No Sheridan ?

Yep that's the one thing I wasn't sure about. Taylor certainly warrants his selection from what I've seen.

I suppose the obvious alternative would be to play Sheridan in a 4-3-3 (with one sitting) and lose a CB - but you'd lose the natural width the WBs would give (and I wouldn't want Poole drifting too far out there).

With a bog standard 4-4-2 / 4-1-4-1 the LW position becomes a bit more problematic in my view.

Wright's a left winger is he?  Haven't seen him. I suppose that solves the problem previously quoted.

Consensus seems to be the following:

                               Hulme
                                                  Poole
Wright                                                                         Johnston
                            Sheridan     Taylor/Moult

Brownhill      (2 of Harrison/Hannigan/Jones if he signs)    Dens/Lynch

                                Deasy/Thompson

What about that?

Hancock and Disney will probably be starters I'd have thought, bit too early for me without seeing more.

On paper I'd go for the big signings being first on the team sheet....

Thompson

Short Harrison Lynch Wright

Taylor Sheridan

Johnson Poole Wright

Hulme

in a 4-2-3-1 lots of options on bench including miller coming back......Hannigan in charge of the first aid room....

Taylor has a lot of skill on the ball as demonstrated at Whitchurch, but the other night against Stockport, PP and some of the other players  were certainly getting annoyed at his poor positioning creating openings for the opposition. It's normal that as a young player he's going to have certain things to improve on. The new coaching staff will help him improve on his game, but it's going to take time. I may well be wrong but I just don't see him being picked over Moult, Richman and Sheridan when the season starts. I know that's an unfashionable opinion on here but it's what I think will happen.

Maybe unfashionable but I for one, agree. I'd also like to see room made for the Ex-TNS lad, Jones,
