RB Densmore
CB Hannigan
CB Cyrus

LM Clee
DM Moult
CM Jones or Richman
AM Miller ( high, near enough a nunber 10 )

CF Reeves

or have Miller for Paterson and have Lawrie as AM

Looks a lot more balanced and exciting squad. Reeves will love that Clee is back home.

Altrincham FC First Team / Jim and his poor team selections continue...m
« on: December 03, 2016, 05:02:30 PM »
I feel like I am constantly repeating myself.
We can sign all the defenders in the world but we need quick wingers and a decent centre forward.
Plus to have Goodall at centre back is just ridiculous. A month or two ago he was hurled off in the first half as balls were going over and past him. It was the right decision to pull him off but Jim does not learn from his own selection mistakes, he is suupose to be a manager of experience. How many times are we making first half subs from very poor team selections?
We have two centre backs on the bench and Goodall starts and he was absolutely garbage.
In Lenighan and Wilkinson we have two players who stroll around the pitch. You can sometimes add Lawrie to the lazy squad. We can't afford one passenger nevermind a few. Lenighan can jog on.
I thought Morrison-Derbyshire did OK again Salford and from the YouTube clip he can play and is left footed, give him a try. Anyone apart from Goodall who is about 5ft 6, the amount of balls going past him or glancing off his head was there to see.
Positives - McWilliams, direct runs from Miller in the second half, he had them worrying. We played a lot higher in the second half and deserved a draw.
Get Goodall, Hobson and Lenighan off the books. We need quick wide players and another striker.

Altrincham FC First Team / Disgraceful

Not even left the ground.

3 at the back first half and full backs don't overlap?

Having Lawrie, Wilkinson and Miller in the team will not win you games. They can't get back.

Lawrie struggles to beat the first man on set pieces. If Wilko plays he does set pieces.

Right back number 9.

No pace in the team and lazy.

No 8 Lenighan, appears clueless and the game passed him, like most.

Paterson has energy but not good at defending. Cyrus doesn't even stand goal side of his player.

No leaders out there and hasn't been since Robbie Lawton.

Need energy in the team but Richman sits on the bench and Lenighan starts in front of him.

More than anything a team full of fannies who are not fit to wear out shirt.

I am now wasting my money.

Altrincham FC First Team / Team going forward?
« on: November 06, 2016, 02:55:55 PM »
I didn't go yesterday but from listening to Radio Robins it seems like Paterson and Richman made a big difference. Richman hasn't been at his best this season but I previously mentioned these two as the only players to give it their all and they bring energy to the play. I am yet to see Obeng and Lenighan but thoughts on the team going forward? I still think we need two wide men with pace, a proven goalscorer and cover at left back.

GK Deasy

LB McWilliams
CB Thomas / Cyrus
CB Hannigan
RB Paterson

LW Miller
DM Moult
CM Lenighan
AM Wilkinson
RM Richman

CF Reeves

Or push Paterson up on right side of mid and have Obeng at RB maybe dropping Wilkinson away from home.

Altrincham FC First Team / Dear players
« on: November 03, 2016, 09:28:56 PM »
I have just spent the last 30 mins going through my playoff photos from the season we returned to the National league and then I read the great article of Odd Sindre Tonning's support.

I am sure some of the players must read this forum. It is obvious we are going through testing times and it is becoming a bit nasty in and around the club. Yeah we have to accept we are not up to the standard expected for this level but it is 11 men against 11 men. What has hurt me more than anything is the lack of heart and effort in games.

Until Jim finds the correct reinforcements then we need you as the players to stand up as men, us supporters want 11 men against 11 men, not boys. Surely as a player you want to leave the pitch at the final whistle knowing that you gave it all. As someone who loves the game, I gave my all whether it was a training match, Saturday or Sunday football. I didn't ever want to cheat myself but more importantly the team, that is without 800 die hard fans who deserve much much better.

From the games I have seen I would only say Patterson and Richman have given there all so there are a lot more of you who need to stand and man up. We need to start fighting for every god dam ball as this is now a very hard battle. To be honest every game, whether you are top or bottom should be a battle because that is football and having the desire for victory. There are times I watch our players jogging around, hardly breaking a sweat, not closing down, hitting long balls and so on.

Yeah confidence will be low but you as the players can only change it. We can keep moping around the pitch or roll our sleeves up and grow a pair. Jim will give team instructions, formations and tactics but you guys as the players need to feel the passion and heart of playing for Altrincham FC.

Altrincham FC First Team / Just terrible and clueless
« on: October 22, 2016, 04:54:26 PM »
I watched the first half from the stands and it was awful. Hardly any drive in the team, final third terrible. Still badly need pace out wide to go around a man. Correct sub with Goodall as each ball looked as if it was going to go past him. Why aren't we giving Marsh a go? He looks a lot more sharp than Hobson. What has happened to Richman and Moult? Williams was better than all our mids and Luca looked more comfortable than all our defenders. Bunch of fannies.

Altrincham FC First Team / First game thoughts?
« on: August 06, 2016, 06:02:33 PM »
Pretty dire game.

Positives is in the first half we won the ball back a lot but negatives was when we got it up top we were very slow at catching up with play, hence why Lawrie had to play for free kicks.

Second half was not a great start but played better when Richman came on even though we conceded two but one being from a corner and the other a pen.

Impressed by Cyrus, Hannigan, Patterson, Lynch and Goodall.

Heathcote and Dawber are young but seem to be confidence players. We'll have to wait and see.

If we are to play that narrow without natural wide players then for me it has to be Goodall, Moult, Lynch and Richman.

Lawrie had a good game and normally does when he is up for it.

Clearly need a couple of quick, strong with good stamina wide players. Seriously consider Clee on what Guiseley have offered. Pay as you play deal. I am sure he won't be contracted to such a deal so defo worth a gamble.

Desperately need support for Reeves in a strong and quick forward who can get behind the defence. Doesn't have to be over 6ft tall - those days have gone unless you get someone like Parkin. We looked so slow going forward but the boys works hard.

Altrincham FC First Team / Fuming
« on: April 30, 2016, 06:16:39 PM »
Our season ended when we stopped playing with 3 in centre mid and Ranks up front. How we haven't got a centre mid in is an absolute joke and the lack of heart and aggression in our play is shocking. We deserve to go down. We are such a soft fanny team too, we get bullied. Just a poor poor season and changes should have been made months ago. Fuming. If I was manager this team need high intensity, learn how to close down, track back, attack the ball etc and a lot of strength training. We seem to stroll around the park getting flicked off the ball. I've turned BT sports off but Lawrie AGAIN lost possession for being a fanny and what the hell was that defending by Griff. Simply don't play players who are so ineffective out of position. Lawrie should only play as a no.10 central, Leather as a centre back and so on. Just awful decisions and silly silly tactics in games. Said it at the start we are nowhere near good enough to have two up top. Those players need a firm kick up the arse or they can do one.

Altrincham FC First Team / Wasting my money
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:05:10 PM »
Seriously wasting my money and time. Absolutely no fight and they look defeated. How the hell haven't we got a centre mid in all season is shocking. When Lawrie is on top of his game then he can be a game changer, like the ball to Josh for the goal but he has too many bad games and very much drifts in and out so we have needed 3 centre mids for a long long time. I would start Rankine over Reeves, Reeves is not at all in form and Rankine is a better option. The only time Sinnott decides not to hoof the ball into the clouds we break and score. Sinnott to Lawrie and onto Josh. Last opportunity was wasted. Sinnott can throw it long so why didn't he take the throwin then have everyone in the box?Keep saying it but we can't do the simple things right. Our set pieces for years have been awful, we never do anything with them. I often feel we are worse off when the ref blows up. Windy day and no one wanted to test their keeper. No urgency and they should be ashamed. I am skint and debating whether I save the cost of watching these soft lads go down.

Altrincham FC First Team / This is huge
« on: March 05, 2016, 09:46:29 AM »
I hardly use the word hate but I hate Macc, mainly because they have a high number of horrible people supporting them, if you can use the word supporting. If by any chance any of our players read this then please give it your all, I want a battle out there. Let's get tough, God I hope Richman is fit. Message to the club, let us have all the side for the second half, it makes a huge difference to the support and that means we will get behind them a lot more. Stop being a yes club and giving in to the cover stand. They don't do it for us.

102
We aren't even getting the simple things correct. AGAIN our midfield was outplayed, I know we have injuries but we need three players in there. No leadership or some old fashioned grit ( been saying this since bloody Robbie Lawton left and he wasn't a partically good footballer ). We had no movement in forward play which makes our options limited and passing slow. Even Josh wasn't making the runs, our team seemed 10 yards behind play. This resorts to long ball and the ratio to chances created by long ball play is poor. Keep repeating myself but surely they must see this, if not I suggest Sinnott sits high in the standard and watches games. Only Lawrie and Holness had the heart and passion today. Can't blame the pitch as Guiseley passed it very well. I am worried.

103
I still think we are far too open playing 4-4-2 even though it makes for more exciting games. Margetts is a good player but I would play Rankine up top alone with Ginnelly and Crowther ( who was excellent in that first half on Saturday ) attacking as they have been doing. I just think we need that extra man in midfield to tighten up. I did enjoy the game and the lads are working very hard.  Great commitment from the loaness, really impressed with Ginnelly and his attitude for such a young lad.

Altrincham FC First Team / Lee what are you doing?
« on: January 23, 2016, 04:35:33 PM »
I need another rant as it needs addressing sooner rather than later.

If by any chance you read the forum then do what a manager should be doing and look at statistics this season. Look at our results playing 4-4-2.

We needed a third energetic, strong box to box centre midfield to play alongside Richman, with Moult doing what he does best breaking down attacks in front of the back 4 as a defensive midfielder.

I believe Sam Heathcote could become a good player but he needs to toughen up and I think the Vanarama National League is too much of a big step at this moment. Lee should have looked at another centre back whilst Havern is having an up and down season with performances and injury and with Marshall way off fitness.

I have been to most home games and a couple of the away games and it is clear from what I have seen that we are not good enough playing 4-4-2, we are far too open and teams run right through us, we also revert back to long ball to Rankine.  It does not work. Lee always states that he wants us to pass and play the ball up the field but his current tactics do not indicate this.

                        GK
RB       CB       CB       LB
                        DM
                     CM
                        AM
RW                            LW
         CF
DM Moult – Sitting in front of the back four.

CM Richman – Plenty of energy closing players down – this position covers all the area in-between the defence and attacking players.

AM - Should have been new loan player but maybe Lawrie but I fear he has not got the stamina or strength to play box to box. This position is higher than Richman and Moult but still involves defensive cover and an attacking option. I say Lawrie because his best position is central and he can find that killer past but he’s a very soft player.

We attack a lot better having one up front, all season our centre midfield has needed reinforcement, I appreciate Griffith did our legs but we have brought in 3 loan players and I appreciate we needed wide players after we lost our most attacking and creative player in Clee but we are shipping in goals and we need players to close opposition attacks down.

I am so frustrated that we continue with 4-4-2, football has moved forward and we are trying to compete with full time teams with an outdated 4-4-2 formation. Lee and the players need to sort this out because we can not go back down into that terrible league.

Even at home I would play one up top. We need to become solid. In football it does not mean we will score more goals having two players up top, especially when we struggle getting it up there to them.

Altrincham FC First Team / Update on Clee
« on: January 03, 2016, 07:30:08 PM »
At last we get a full update by Neil Tolson in regards to Nicky, unfortunately coming after what looks like his groin now tearing.

Well attended my first game in a while at Chester and that first half was quite simply a tactical mess, players all over the show panicking. I do apologise to single out Sinnott but his body language and lack of desire in closing their wing play down in the first half was disgusting. I wonder if he would have acted that way with his dad on the sideline. Sorry but had to be mentioned.

First half proved again by having two up top we become narrow with no width and long balls to Rankine. It doesn't often work and poor football.  However I thought Rankine had a good game yesterday. Then Neil rightly changed it at half time and put Clee on. We went to 4-4-2, I still don't think we are good enough to play 4-4-2 but the difference was clear to see.  Clee was immense before sadly going off injured, he was taking 2 or 3 players out of the middle of the park which allowed us more room and chances down the middle and we could have nicked it.

The team will pick itself now due to injuries, desperately need wide players. Basically we need two fit Nicky Clee's with one having a right foot and the other a left. Fully fit team we need to go back to one up front, 3 in centre mid and two high wide players like Clee and Crowther who will track back. One up top I would probably start Rankine as he can run the channels, hold it up with his strength and has a great shot. Obviously a Reevesy fan but we look all over the shop when they play together.

Anyway the positive was a good battling second half.
