Altrincham FC First Team / Decisions?
« on: February 23, 2015, 03:41:16 PM »
Big decisions! I wasn't there on Saturday but do we go back to three in the middle when we were picking up points? Perry definately deserved a starting place after the Macc second half but starting him each game will be a backwards step as it completely changes how we play ( i.e long ball ) and we lose a man in midfield. Never have doubted Lawrie's ability but for the games I've seen him out wide he is often a passenger at this level but always has the potential to smash one in the top corner. For us to start picking up points I'd go back to the 4-3-3 formation with the following team gk coburn lb griff rb dens cb marshall or leather cb havern dm moult cm cav cm Richman lf clee rf sinnot ( give him a couple of games to see where he is at ) cf reeves. We can not afford passengers at this level. For me Perry and Lawrie are impact players

Altrincham FC First Team / Jordan Sinnott

Potential so good signing and a lot better than Ryan Crowther! Obvious we need wide players so let's give him a try again. Great delivery of the ball and lots of energy

Altrincham FC First Team / A game of two halfs
« on: February 10, 2015, 11:13:48 PM »
A game of two halfs, they out muscled and outplayed us in the first but I felt we stood off too much, whether that was to save our energy to go at them in the second or simply they were better than us. Whittaker class and the wide left impressed me.

First time ever I have shouted for Kyle to come at half time ( Jolly can confirm this ). Long ball is not pretty but sometimes it's needed against certain teams, Macc hate being closed down and they can't deal with the long ball when there is a presence up top, it's been the same in all the games. Our effort and tempo was outstanding second half and every player apart Ryan stepped up. I never known us to look so dangerous from set pieces and deserved at least  draw.

I thought all players were excellent second half but I need to mention Richman, he was like superman the area he covered, made me feel sick watching him haha! Sometimes you have to not be so pretty and turn it into a battle and it was definitely the correct half time sub. I actually feel gutted because the second half performances deserved a result.

We go again.

Altrincham FC First Team / Cheaper train tickets to Bristol away
« on: February 02, 2015, 02:02:30 PM »
There are 8 of us going down to Bristol on the 21st Feb. The train currently stands at £80.60 return but buying tickets as a group of 10 reduces it down to £61.35 so if anyone is interested in two train tickets then let me know? However I think it is set times which is out of Manchester Piccadilly at 09.07 Saturday morning and returning from Bristol at 13.00 on the Sun. Let me know if you are interested?  Don't worry you wouldn't have to sit with us rowdy lot.

Altrincham FC First Team / Insomnia thoughts
« on: January 03, 2015, 10:42:51 AM »
Whilst not sleeping I had a few thoughts about our last performance against Chester, which was really enjoyable.  The stand out performances of Clee, Reeves and Densmore were all Mr Heathcote's signings. No idea why I was thinking about that. Another thing I thought was really positive were the short corners, they allowed us to whip in balls at better angles,  apart from Chester away we are pretty poor at using our set pieces to our advantage but the short ball defo helped Clee to put a better ball in. Something to keep in mind but Chester let us get away with it as they didn't really pick up! Some great balls in which is always great to see!

Altrincham FC First Team / Well done Lee and the lads
« on: November 29, 2014, 04:59:20 PM »
I am very critical of Lee at times so thought I'd say well done on recent performances and post match comments.  Seems like I missed another good game today. Well done boys!

Altrincham FC First Team / The defence
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:00:35 PM »
I am hoping this will my last post for a while as I am sick of repeating myself and seeing dire performances.

I have just read Lee's post match comments after Saturday and it appears to show emotion which is a good thing but he goes on about the defence but he is the one selecting the wrong defence.

Lets take a step back to our promotion season and especially the final, Havern and Leather were a success, solid and comfortable together, lets look at our best patch this season in which we hardly conceded and it was after Marshall sending off. I am not entirely blaming Marshall for the poor defensive perfomances but he isn't good enough, he's nervous, slow, commits himself high and just isn't fit enough. This has then had a knock on effect with Havern's performances. Havern loses his confidence and is caught out of position when playing with him, you can see and feel it. It just doesn't work.

Now Havern and Leather are solid and comfortable, Scott is four times the ball winner than Marshall and Havern sweeps, they do it extremely well together. Scott is our best centre back and those two together bring confidence to the team and more importantly Stuart. It is so clear so if Sinnott has any decent tactical ability then we start the team sheet with those two names written first as centre backs.

We have a lot of dead wood, lets go one or two divisions below and get keen, young, strong and fit lads. Give Gillespie a few games or get rid, get rid of Mike Williams, Marshall and Perry. Trouble is Lee lives so far away he can't do mid week local game scouting but I guarantee there will be better players than those mentioned above, we need players who can play at a high tempo, closing down, eager and just hungry to succeed at this level.

Lee needs to make some brave decisions now before we make this even harder for ourselves. We just can't have any passengers, we need more aggressive players too but for now get our best back four back together and build from there. We need to stay in this league. s

It is amazing what passion, heart and grit can achieve. Some of the challenges were awesome.  Over to you lads and good luck for Sunday. Get stuck in from the off!

Altrincham FC First Team / I should have took a two hour dump!
« on: November 01, 2014, 05:58:42 PM »
I feel like cutting and pasting my post from a few weeks ago because I am going to sound like a parrot but until Lee gets the basics right then I will keep posting.

That game is why I will never ever totally warm to Lee Sinnott as a Manager. He could argue that he selected a weaker team for rotation and freshen it up but these are our three point games. Alfreton were awful but we were a disgrace.

I am not naive to think we should be getting results every week but that was complete and utter garbage and it was down to tactics and having no tempo or passion yet AGAIN.

We lost that game after the 20th minute and how it took the clueless bloke to make changes ten mins before the end baffles me. Not surprised Gillespie missed but you can’t get into a game unless you have a decent 15 mins plus. Before some idiot mentions the Richman sub, that was made due to injury.

Now time to repeat myself :-

Perry wasn’t even Conference North standard and he looks worst than a Sunday league pub team player in this league. He wouldn’t touch the ball with my Sunday team, I swear I am not taking the mick, because the pitches are smaller and compact he wouldn’t touch it because he does not move. Never on the front foot, never in the correct area, shy’s away from supporting on throw ins. Can not retain the ball, well over weight and unfit. How many managers would play him?????????? There will be sooooo many better strikers in the leagues below. Get rid, waste of player and money.

Lawrie is a central only player, very intelligence behind the striker but not at all intelligent on the wing. He drifts inside far too often and when we play Kyle we end up hitting long balls and don’t ever get anywhere in the centre of the pitch. Lawrie drifting in makes the area ‘too busy’ and we always lose it. Our best chances come from out wide with drilled crosses into the box, usually from Richman or Densmore.

Cavanagh is a good player but I think he slows us down and leaves Moult with too much to do. Sean Williams and Moult have more energy and better closing down. Sean was awful when he came on but he had less than ten mins and any footballer will tell you that it is so hard to get into a game with that lack of time.

Tom Marshall, I’ll start with the positive, he had an OK last ten mins before this he over hit every single past through the centre, his short passing is dodgy and at times only just reached the man. He is very slow at shifting the ball forward. Anyone who still rates him then look at our win percentage with him in the team, Havern not his confident self today and like I have previously said anyone would be nervous playing  alongside him. Again overweight and unfit. Positionally awful in the box.

We again played without tempo and were so slow and moving the ball, this was a must win game against a very poor team.  I personally would have changed the tactics after twenty minutes and certainly brought the subs on around 60 mins. How the manager could not see what was happening in front of him today baffles and angers me.

Our chances only came from attacking out wide. We do need another decent winger who will take people on and get to the byline, maybe even two with Clee’s injury record. We need another centre back to keep Havern and Leather on their toes, a left back and a forward.

Our best team without a doubt is :-
GK Coburn
RB Densmore
LB Griffin
CB Havern
CB Leather

LW Clee
CM Moult ( proper unsung hero that lad )
CM Williams
RW Richman

CF Lawrie
CF Reeves

Pathetic team selection, tactics and poor ability to recognise that we lost the game in the 20th minute. Waste of time and money I haven’t got.

132

I apologise for always starting a separate thread but I always hope Lee reads it hahaha I think he might have done. That was the best performance in years, I mean years!!!! What a performance from the off.

I am buzzzzzzzing.

The tempo was something else, I am a realist and understand that can’t be every week but half that effort we’ll stay up.

Lets please end the centre back debate – LEATHER + HAVERN is different gravy. Anyone with even half a brain must have seen that tonight. Leather was out of this conference world. People will say we didn’t have a right back but we never should sacrifice our best centre back. I would have put Sean Williams there for the games Dens missed.

Griifin I have criticised but immense tonight, the whole team but back four solid.

Special mention to the man I refer to as the ‘unsung hero’ Jake Moult, won so many balls.

Richman in the first half was immense, the energy we needed was brought into the team and he contributes to that. Faded second half but to be fair it came left a lot.

I said after last game Nicky is slightly unfit and lacking confidence, just run at them mate. We won’t criticise you for being direct.

Lawrie is the most frustrating player we have because he is by far the best technical player we have. First half he lost the ball and was being soft again, second half he was closing down, being strong, running it with. That’s his best position.

I have stated these points all season and tonight make’s me more happy than anyone will ever realise.

Coburn more confident with Luca and Leather in front.

I don’t expect that each week, I appreciate we are part time but just half that boys and we’ll do it. We still need players and the likes of Perry and Marshall do need to move on. Fitness, energy and drive, those two have none.

I LOVED THAT !!!!

133
Altrincham FC First Team / Sinnott how do you rate your performance?
« on: September 27, 2014, 05:50:36 PM »
I rate it shocking.

I will be always grateful for our promotion last season but this game proved why I don’t rate his tactics and man management of getting players up for games.

I have not attended many games this season but I have watched all available highlights but I am going to REPEAT some concerns I posted on here after the first two games.

We need Leather and Havern as our centre backs as Marshall is poor, positionally awful, commits himself then leaves other’s short which then makes that player seem to be at fault. I am not going to lie but I was happy for his red card.

Griffin has improved but still too slow and needs ‘get on his bike’ more down the wing to offer an option to the wide man. Densmore did OK on his return, Dens is really good at making forward support runs and gets in a high number of crosses. Griffin needs to do this, make the other team worry. We always set up so negative and as I said before it appears as if we expect teams to come at us, let us go at them, especially at home. Positive mental attitude!

Talking about wide men, as I put in my post all those games back and still hasn’t been address, is that our only creative player in Clee is picking the ball up and running directly into centre mid. This is a clear Sinnott instruction; unless he needs a decent set of specs then he must see how often our wide men run into trouble in the centre and loose the ball, resulting in the other team counter attacking against us.  We keep running out of pitch, lets get our wide men hugging the byline and opening the middle of the park up, there was no support or wide play. Taking people on out wide creates crosses, pull backs, more chance of winning pens, opens the middle up more for Reeves and other forward players.

Clee does not look fit and slightly disinterested but he is a lot more EFFECTIVE going around men, to the byline and cutting it back. We are over crowding the centre of the park and we haven’t got good enough players in that area play ourselves out of trouble.

Lawrie is so ineffective out wide, he is lazy, all season he has been lazy, he lets players jog past him leaving the right back with two to mark. Drop the lad or play him up front. We get rinsed down the channels. It wasn’t just Lawrie today who showed a lack of passion or effort, the whole team apart from Reeves and Gillespie.

The term  WE WON’T GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT, well I thinking we should play the ladies team as I have never seen such a lack of passion and heart.  I blame Sinnott for this, yes I repeating myself again but hopefully he reads the forum and things might start to sink in. These players need to get fire in the belly because Welling looked awful but outplayed us with ease, it was embarrassing. Whether you are a Heathcote lover or hater at least he got us fighting. I have put it many times but under him we came out like warriors, we didn’t have the technical players that Lee has at his disposal but by hell we gave it a go. That today and the goals I saw conceded at Barnet are a complete and utter disgrace.

Just to repeat myself for the 100 hundred time,if we play Perry and we turn into a long ball team and we are crap at it. Perry’s ball retention or flick on ratio is very very very very very very very poor. I stand there and can’t believe the things I see, Marshall and Perry wouldn’t even make my Sunday league team.

We need to get fitter.

We need to close down higher up the pitch, especially our wide men.

We need more men in the box at set pieces not leaving two big men back

We need more determination and aggression

We need more belief

We need a decent keeper, centre back, left back, centre mid, left and right winger and a striker who is fit, strong and can score goals

At the moment only players good enough are Havern, Leather, Reeves and maybe Clee but he is ageing and needs to be fit

Sinnott is stubborn but he needs to change things otherwise he should walk, some of the performances have been woeful, I expected us to struggle but this is ridiculous, they have given up already.

I can’t see anything but a Macc win but I would give this team a go

GK New Keeper before Tuesday

RB Dens
LB Griffin
CB Havern
CB Leather

RW Richman
CM Sean Williams ( if fit )
CM Greg Wilkinson ( I would take the gamble of some energy in the centre of the park because we are being over run through the centre far too often.

CF Reeves
CF Gillespie

It is a massive game on Tuesday, for  F-sake get yourself up for it lads, even if that means ignoring Sinnott and has softy softy approach. Step up like men.

Altrincham FC First Team / Leather and Havern
« on: September 06, 2014, 11:39:10 AM »
It's come to the point where I don't even care who plays right back but get Leather and Havern back together!  Sick of hearing or reading Marshall lost his man or the player got infront of Marshall to score. I've said many times he ain't fit enough and positionally poor.  Never should comes near a shirt unless fit. This league is better quality then league two so we need our best centre back partnership each game. You don't put a second hand part in a well oiled engine!
