Title: This has to be a joke ...
Post by: gazwarrington on May 18, 2008, 08:55:33 AM

Another former Football League club, Gateshead, promoted to Blue Square North, are going full-time next season despite attracting low gates to the International Stadium. Manager Ian Bogie told the NL Paper, "The chairman believs the only way to be successful at the next level is to have full-time staff, as Kettering showed".

Its bad enough seeing clubs on crowds of 1,000 being ful ltime and struggling but GATESHEAD ?? Oh please clubs learn soon or you'll be 'helping alty' in the future if you get promoted !!!

Maybe the 300 they get will be paying £50 gate fee  ;D

Even then they'd only just get more money than we do out of games!

Of course, Gateshead's unique brand positioning and resolute business model will unlock the significant potential synergies associated with secondary product marketing and greater utilisation of the club's assets, whilst growing the Club's traditional links with the local business and the wider community in the region.

The fact that there aren't very many supporters doesn't enter into it.

"Leigh RMI, just relegated to the UniBond Premier and with average gates last season of 202, announce that "The Chairman Dominic Speakman and Manager Steve Bleasdale are delighted to announce the signing of the Club's first ever full-time players". Three players have been signed including former Altrincham reserve Richard Chetcuti who "having come through the youth system Richard is a bright prospect who will definitely benefit from full-time training. A quick, strong striker who featured in Sky's 'Football Icon' programme in 2005, a competition to win a contract at Chelsea, in which made it to the last 5 players. Capped by Lancashire FA under 18s' squad in 2006 Richard was also recognised by the Club in the end of season awards by winning in the 'Most Promising Young Player' category". Next season Leigh play at their new ground at Leigh Sports Village. "

It is just a joke! How can they have a new stadium AND go full time on gates of 200...and how can a former alty RESERVE be full time in a lower league?

Leigh RMI are expecting an average attendance of 1000+ next season. The new sports village will include a 10,000 seater stadium, gym, swimming pool, hotel, conference suite, offices, running track and child care facilities. The Ukraine olympic team have booked it as their base for 2012 and there are big plans for the future. I drove past it yesterday and it looks very impressive.

Taken from their Footy Mad site and also mentioned in the local paper the Leigh Reporter
Next season with the new stadium and improved results Leigh aim to break into the elite 30 non league clubs with attendances in excess of 1,000. It is a huge challenge, but with the help of our loyal supporters and a positive attitude about the club, anything is possible.

Yes but looking at the Sports Village it will still cost them money they don't have!

They have taken a gamble but the stadium is a very useful asset. If things start going wrong they can hire it out for sports events, concerts etc. The location is also a big plus.
