Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Team For Southport
« on: January 28, 2007, 06:14:10 PM »
As important as the 11 strarting players and formation is we must play at a quick tempo, as in the the 2nd half.

We are far better when the sense of urgency is rife, as in being a goal behind.

Personally I would have a Scott at left and right back, Senior and Thornley out wide with Little and O'Neill up front, Lawton and Chalmers in the middle.
This does however leave Bushall out, and I can't see this happening

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: We need to attack from the start
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:10:57 PM »
I think it showed how much we need to attack teams to survive in this league. Different team second half.It was so much better having attacking players on the wings in Thornley and Senior. Do not have to repeat myself about Rod as he proved it when he came on but he has to start games. We were so flat footed in first half. They were a strong team but again we were fitter than them, pushing right until the final whistle.

I just hope we start with more attacking players from the start or I do think we will go down.People said that we are playing better this year passing more etc,but I don't care doesn't get us three points, goals do and I appreciate Joe's work rate but he simply isn't going to score the goals. He holds it up ok, but he has no movement in the box, never makes the darting runs into the box like he should be.Little are O'Neil don't workas a partnership either. Lets give Rod 4 or 5 games up front and get Senior on either wing. We are missing Bushell as well. Munroe andBandy played really well today.

So where do you want Thornley to play, wing or up front with Little?

Felt sorry for Scott, dropped the bollock for the goal, but I thought was okay. First game at home playing a 'good team' on a roll not the  easyest of debut's, but I think will be an asset for the forthcoming battle.

Aspinall - OPTA index :-

Tackles made 95%

Completed passes 5%

This says it all for me, the number of over ambitious/hit passes is criminal, decent enough defender (far better than last year) but very wastful of the ball.

Gutted about the result but al least we had a go,  played really well (2nd half) and can take positives from the game.

We must get something at Southport.

PS Chris Adams has left Droylescum.

That's it from

To be fair you play could Thornley on eitther wing, but would you leave Peyton out. There's no way Lawton won't start (or finish) so does that mean Chalmers sit's out?

Very hard selection decisions tomorrow with Kiddy on their good run and the arrival of A. Scott but i feel we must go for the win. So my team is:

Coburn

G. Scott
Rose
Munro
A. Scott

Lawton (I know it's not his best pos)
Bushall (if not fir then Owen)
Chalmers
Peyton

Little
O'Neill

Tough choices for GH to make but better than the away game at FGR when scratching round for players.

As MUFC are on BBC at 5.15 on sat would there be any merit in puttiing the big screen up in the hope of getting a few more in the NWS and keeping those who do go in a bit  longer than normal?

Chris said that he'd not been as fit and injury free for a long while (but if you're not  playing so often it helps) and their left back is a central defender so I don't think any milage in him. Warner (their 1st choice) on the other hand looked very good last time I saw him, good defending and likes to get forward. I dont't think we afford him or that Pace would sell him (esp. to us)

On the subject of left backs I went to Droylsden yesterday and was staggered to see that Chris Adams is their 3rd choice left back and can't even get on the bench.

I'm sure he would come back if asked but would this be a backward move?

Some observations;

  • O'Neill playing on the left just does not work, Rod should have started/played a bigger part

f**k me ! If it wasn't obvious at Tampaxworth that he was lost on the left don't tell me he played there again. Jesus Christ put Bowler on he would be more effective.

This is not a go at O'Neill but it was like playing with 10 men at Tampaxworth and from what I can gather it was the same again today.

The poor guy struggles all season to score, then scores 2 in 1 game and then gets lumped out wide on the left!

I don't know what the f**k is going on.

« on: January 20, 2007, 06:41:38 PM »
Didn't go today so can't comment on performance. How did Senior play?

The thing I don't get is why McFadden gets loaned out, for me when he plays he makes  a difference. Apart form the goals he's made he coulds have had at least 2/3 pens with the amount of shirt pulling he endures.

I read we conceded again from a dead ball situation for god knows how many times. Every time we have to defend either a corner or free kick which is put into the box I fear a goal.

I also thought Munro/Rose were the best two central defenders but since Rose's injury he can't get back in, any thoughts?

Do you get to chose the kid or is it luck of the draw?
