Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Blue Square More Competitive?
« on: July 02, 2007, 02:56:45 PM »
I think we (York) have a great chance of winning the league and I reckon that Oxford and Exeter will present the only threat at the top. Outsiders could be Stevenage and Kidderminster with the FA Trophy cash behind them.

At the bottom I agree with Mr Hughes that Alty won't go down because the teams coming up this year are really poor. If Droylsden are signing rubbish like Mark Hotte then they are certs for relegation, as are Farsley and Histon. Northwich have the worst manager in English football in Relegation Refearn for the other relegation place.

2 of York/Exeter/Oxford to go up, Histon/Farsley/Northwich/Droylsden to go down.

I reckon we'll all be happy with that. Now, about this Trafford/Alty double header.............

For anyone who might doubt that Alty should be a "friendly club" let the experience of Boston show that if everybody hates you you won't get very far in the game of football - and that's how it should be.

Let's hope Boston disappear completely.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Question for internet experts
« on: May 08, 2007, 03:57:07 PM »
How difficult/costly would it be to edit and broadcast online highlights of Alty home games in Blue Square North?

Also, is there anything which might legally prevent the club from doing this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello Slade Green Alty,

I produce and edit the York City FC Season Highlights and can answer a couple of your questions.

In terms of time spent editing, I would say that to do a decent job of an individual game may take 3-5 hours depending on how sophisticated you want to be. For example if you want to add replays, graphics, logos etc it will take longer and, when you first start out, is painstaking. This is the 3rd season I have done the highlights so now I have a nice bank of logos, graphics etc which makes it much quicker. Editing is not particularly difficult, editing WELL is. You will find the biggest obstacles are things such as sound levels, colour balancing, graphic balancing depending on how good your cameraman is. When I took a look at the Alty v York game, the footage was very well shot, the sound levels a bit quiet, and the balancing a bit dark (probably due to video transfer and poor floodlighting at Moss Lane!).

In terms of rights, we have had no trouble at all. Sky's rights have only been limited to live games and, even then, they cannot stop you from filming (although the practicalities are another question). One of the reasons they pay such a pisspoor amount of cash is that their rights are not "full" and so, while they do have the power to change the date and kick off times of games, they do NOT have the power to stop another person/company filming so long as the club have given you permission. As far as I understand this is NOT the case in the Football League where rights are exclusive, and that's why FL teams get a lot more money for the coverage. With Setanta, I would be amazed if they had paid for exclusive rights and will probably have a similar deal to Sky, although I don't know that for a fact, check with the club. You might get greater opposition from Conference TV than Setanta, if they are still around but again I wouldn't worry about it until they do.

I don't know much about internet broadcasting but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.

If you want to have a look at how we do it for York City then PM me with your address and I will gladly send you a complimentary copy for reference. Now we are out of the play-offs, Part 3 (February-May) will be coming out very soon once I have interviewed the manager and edited the play-off footage (what there is of it). Unemployed Coalminer has seen one from last season if memory serves. This season a typical DVD consists of:

First team action (approx 1 hour)
Reserve team goals (approx 15 mins)
Interview with manager + montage to music (approx 10-15 mins, depending on how much he has to say!)
Total running time about 80-90 minutes.

Hope that helps, not sure that it does but I've gone and typed it now!

Altrincham FC First Team / Sorry
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:09:53 PM »
Sorry you've gone, you've got a lot of friends in this league and the way your club has conducted itself over the past 2 seasons has been first class.

I would have no hesitation is popping along to Moss Lane next season for a game or two to have a few beers with friends, I am just sorry for them because I know for a fact that they will be absolutely gutted.

Heads up lads, you'll be back.

Phil, I think it's an awful shame that you're still not allowed on Confguide.

The imposition of a seemingly indefinite ban is rather unfair IMO.

Their loss Jim, it makes me laugh that every thread on there features a phrase or saying straight from out of my rather portly backside, so I don't think they need me any more.

Meant to be meeting Hughesy at The Shay tonight, going in the Crawley Island end I assume to help the Alty cause.

In the good old days we used to always beat 4th division rubbish like York...erm well nearly always.

Erm, no you didn't.

Do you want me to come and support Crawley at Halifax tonight OR NOT?

I won't sleep tonight either, but for different reasons.

Been in the play-off places all season and I bet we bloody drop out of the top 5 at the death.

If you're off to Tamworth the Wetherspoons is the most convenient, about 5 minutes walk from the ground.

Good luck tomorrow, shame Cooper isn't still the manager to see the look on his face when you send them down, maybe he'd have threatened legal action against the result!

Good luck boys, now City have blown it I shall be relying on your hospitality again next season!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Trouble?
« on: February 11, 2007, 04:17:00 PM »
I have been to almost every game this season home and away and the lads I saw trying to cause trouble were unrecognisable.

I knew the faces of two of them, but none of the rest. We were in the Porterhouse when they came in to try and start something and one of them got a smack across the face by the landlord, which he thorough deserved for telling him to "**** off you fat b******" or words to that effect.

We were in there from about half 12 to about 2.15pm and didn't have any problems.

To be fair I didn't think you looked that bad.

As I said to quite a few Alty in the bar afterwards, I have seen you play 4 times this season and I have seen every other team in this league at least once and there are 4 worse teams in this league than Altrincham.

Sadly, I also think there are at least 2 teams better than York also!

Really looking forward to the trip across to Cheshire tomorrow with a load of mates, I hope the weather is ok after the disappointment of a postponment last season.

Should be a good game, we are on poor form and looking for a better performance, likewise you need the points at the moment to move away from the drop zone, both teams should be giving 110% I reckon.

I hope we bring across a decent amount of supporters, well-behaved hopefully, and that we can share a few pints before and after the game.

See you in the bar!

how amny fans did we take down their about 250??

To York or to the pie stand at Southport?

You brought 175 fans to York. 132 of them had had too much to drink, 43 not enough.
