Altrincham FC First Team / Re: York tuesday, Form.
« on: September 03, 2007, 12:43:15 AM »
York should have beaten Rushden in the first 20 minutes. The fact that they lost must give Alty a chance.

You'd have had more chance if we'd have battered them. The fact we didn't seriously diminishes Alty's chances of getting anything from the game but McEwan won't let those mistakes happen again this time.

Unfortunately we are about to give a team an absolute battering, as could be seen on Thursday night when we should have had 8 against Rushden.

With Billy's new signings having some time to get to know the other lads and having had a good few days to work on settling down the defence, I am pretty hopeful of a good win.

Losing 3 home games in a row is a catastrophe, but losing 4 is simply impossible.

Altrincham FC First Team / York v Alty

If anyone needs any info about the City of York and/or Tuesday's match then just let me know and I'll sort you out.

For those people who are planning an overnight stay and a possible couple of days in York can I also point out that the day after the football (4th) is York Races (5th) which might be worth a visit or avoiding for traffic depending on your preference!

The away terrace is £14 to get in this season and the seats cost the same if you want to sit down along the side. Programme is £2.50 but it's worse than last season and the Social Club bar welcomes away fans before and after the game although it can get a bit packed before kick off. Round the corner from the away end is the Burton Stone pub which is not too bad now it's been done out.

Any other info required just ask.

Can't wait to see the famous Gareth Whalley again!!!!!

I went to Trafford v Bacup Borough last night and it's definitely at Moss Lane according to the fans and the match programme.

Do you know who the stadium announcer at FGR is?

Altrincham FC First Team / Wagecap?
« on: August 18, 2007, 09:32:04 PM »
Is there still a wagecap in the Conference?

If so, how can Forest Green Rovers afford to pay full-time wages on crowds of 750 (with 100 away fans)?

Time for a letter to Moulesy I reckon, I wonder what Sneaky has to say about that?

The Conference is the dodgiest league in Britain.

Me and a mate are flying down to Exeter from Manchester Airport for Monday's live game on Setanta and are coming back the next day, arriving back at Man Airport at 5.05pm.

I notice from the fixture list that your neighbours Trafford are at home on that night v Bacup Borough (who?!).

If we wanted to go to the game on our way back to York, what's the best way of getting there from the airport and how long do you reckon it would take?

I wonder what Setanta make of his copyright notice at the end  ;D

Setanta don't have exclusive rights to the footage of games as I can tell you with some certainty having spent the afternoon editing the footage of our game yesterday and preparing it for broadcast.

It's the CLUB who should be annoyed because he is breaking ground regulations.

Why would you pay money to watch a football match only to stand there and film it on your phone?

Very strange behaviour.

I have tried to watch it and agree that the build up was fairly decent, but the football is absolutely awful. What possess any TV company to televise such a poor league?!?

But the wagecap doesn't work though does it?

Just look at Accrington's title win 2 years ago.

In a utopian world, which I know will never happen, clubs would live within their means according to their actual income. If you have a part-time club with crowds of 800 then you should be able to survive pretty well. If you are a full-time club with an average gate of 3,000 then, again, you should be able to survive pretty well if honest people are in charge.

The problem comes from clubs whose spending and ambitions go too far beyond their actual means. The only way clubs with small crowds can be full-time is if they are bankrolled by individuals. The problem with bankrolling is that, what happens when the individuals money runs out? You end up like Canvey Island. And that's what will happen, and in some cases already has happened, to the likes of Woking, FGR, Ebbsfleet etc who will not sustain full-time football in the long term.

Well done to your club for resisting the "sh*t or bust" tendancy shown by clubs similar to you because you will still be around when they are long gone to some feeder league as an "AFC".

Trouble is, he is dead right about the Conference and the way decisions are made for self-interest by Chairmen of other clubs who weadle their way onto the board and abuse their position.

Corruption is rife at this level, as all you lot at Alty found out 2 seasons ago.

Ive heard he's a on a bent passport or summat,no wonder he ended up in gravesend

Quite possibly. But after 3 seasons of playing in this moral gutter of a league, it wouldn't surprise me if we started doing what so many other clubs do and start doing some dodgy deals.

On the topic of the season's predictions - Woking to go down, you heard it here first.
