So the Wythenshawe teams aren't in the Cheshire cup then? Presumably the only Cheshire teams coming under a different local FA.
Was the area ever under the Cheshire FA? (Not that they'd have had much of a team before the new town was built - unless Northenden had a team).
Good question. I saw a document once, which I no longer have unfortunately, about eligibility for county competitions. I think it was based on the boundaries in 1951, but there were certain exceptions. Teams within a certain distance of Manchester, but only if in Lancashire could choose whether to be in Manchester or Lancashire. Therefore, Wythenshawe Town, who used to be North Withington, are in Manchester but Wythenshawe Amateurs are in Lancashire in football terms. However, teams within a certain distance of Liverpool, whether in Lancashire or Cheshire could choose to be in Liverpool or the traditional county, but that distance was less in Cheshire than in Lancashire. I believe the former Football League team New Brighton were n Liverpool rather than Cheshire by their choice.
I can only think that 1951, assuming I have remembered that date right, was the year of an FA meeting to rationalise boundaries. In the very early days as Broadheath, I think we competed as a Manchester rather than Cheshire club.
