Proper Thread - 1st Away Game
« on: February 14, 2007, 02:07:46 PM »

A lot of us can remember our 1st game at Moss Lane, but I just got thinking last night about my 1st away game.Droylsden October 2000 (day after the last game at Wembley).2-1 defeat,Hawsey getting our goal.Only reason I got there was because my brother was going to his girlfriends place. From then on I started going away to just the local games (Hyde,Stalybridge etc) until 2002/03,where I started going nearly all the time, missing only the odd Tuesday night trip.

What was your 1st away game, surely you can't get any worse than mine ::)

SW might remember this one as well, but my first away game was Halifax in the FA Cup in  1975 I think.  Lost 3-1 as I recall and I think Mick Moore may have scored our goal.  All I remember is standing in lots of cinder mud as the speedway track was still there at the time.

Mine was Chorley away in the FA Cup in 1985 - me and my dad were sat in the stand next to a bunch of Ivy Brennan-esque women, some of whom were knitting.  Bizarre but totally true.

Always went to Northwich on the train from the age on about 12....first proper away game was Chorley on a Tuesday night in about 1988 I think.

Steve Davies got sent off and we lost..I think 2-1.

Christ thats nearly 20 years ago...when did I get this old?

Not completely sure but I believe that the first two times I saw Alty play away from Moss Lane were at Anfield and Wembley.

Crawley this weekend though...

FA Trophy Final 1986 v Runcorn with my old man. A game written in history.

Mike Farrelly with a piledriver. Always remember his bearded, thugish mugshot in the programme gave me the willys !!!! (I was only 8).

Remember that Hednesford game. On the coach it was claimed there was a pitch inspection at 1400 and the game should be on. when we arrived nobody was there and the pitch was about 2 feet deep in water, what a joke! that ground was a dump, so they got a new one and went into freefall.

Arnies first away game was colwyn bay in the trophy few years back. Alty scored and arnie attempted to go wild in the covered end, smacked his head on the roof and fell on the pitch, inadvertantly causing a pitch invasion. moaned about the grass stains on his stone wash Lee jeans all the way home! Quality!

Does anyone remember getting trounced 4-0 at Guisely, one of worst away days. The worst had to be 7-0 defeat at morecombe, got joggers nipple off my alty shirt, i was in agony all the way home!

Yes Alty Usa remember Halifax well. the pitch seemed miles away in those days. Locals a bit hostile too.

Not sure exactly of my first away, will have been with my dad in 72/73 ish. Possibly Stafford but I recall Sandbach Ramblers in some cup tie. Willie Mailey had a continuing barney with some guy behind his goal for the full 90 mins, think he was a Crewe fan. Nearly came to fists at the end. Also remember driving with Dad to the postponed FA cup tie at Rossendale, more snow than the Arctic Circle! Didn't get to the rescheduled game,t hink we lost 1-0, penalty?
