Negativity-Its in our blood? a non league thing?
« on: September 03, 2008, 12:10:12 PM »

Just a little thought realy, i remember what my grandad was like when he used to watch alty all he'd do was moan and neg at the players,

i hear the same thing every time i go to moss lane yet see other teams supporters and there attitudes are far more upbeat even though some of there clubs in terrible shape,

is this something which has hindered altyfc at all over the years? maybe the manegers are like this as well? is it becuase were broke? how can we shake off this stigma

Anyone who remembers the legend that is Brian sweeney will remember him moaning away at being able to plant potatoes on the wing in the days of Ian morris and Barry Howard.

I can only imagine what he would make of today's shambles.

it does not bear thinking about, there was another guy we knew as the moaner (he has since reinvented himself  as jonhn the bank in the railway)

we won some cup game after being 1-0 down and i think stan allan scored both goals he was slagging off the team because the defenders scored all the goals whist the rest of the ground was going mad celebrating and was still harping on about it up moss lane after then match.

i actually think our fans are the best in the league for getting behind the team as well the support at kiddy was incredible considering how crap we were and the score

and a big up to the knighton massive for that

Maybe it's due to watching sh*t football week after week for the past 3 years.

Ive noticed enough negativity in these 7 games to last me a life time, everyone has their right to their opinion- which could in turn mean moaning about something, however once a decission is made in football there is nothing we can do to change that decission (no matter how blatent that handball was at Histon last tuesday)

so how about whenever something happens that may cause an alty fan to moan slightly we just chant our hearts out 'ALTRINCHAM'- easy enough

as funny as it is shouting 'OI REF U R SH*T, U DONT DESERVE UR WAGE' etc... i cant see a need, because i know it isnt said to help boost the players morale, so lets just chant our arses off when something bad goes wrong, dont show any signs of weakness through nagging, and then the other fans (barrow) will think 'oh look alty fc fans are the best fans in the land around the world'

just an idea to help self-respect

It's just human nature and it is nothing to do with it being Alty or non-league. You'll find moaners at every ground up and down the country, regardless of size or status (the clubs that is). They're the same people you'll meet down the pub moaning about all aspects of life. They love to moan, it gives them a genuine rush. It's an addiction.

In the most successful period in our history, we could have been winning 4-0 and you would still here one or two people moaning about something that wasn't right in their vision of a perfect team.

I agree - those 'taches on Eales, Allan, Brooke, Rogers, King, Heathcote, Barrow not forgetting Flaherty, were a bloody disgrace...

I disagree completely...the evidence proves that we were more succesful when our players wore ridiculous facial hair or sported ludicrous perms (Barry Howard,Graham Bennett) than we have been more recently with these clean shaven, skinhead hoodie type whipper snappers.

Maybe the hair put our opponenets off in them days and we should resort to banning the current team from the barbers and confiscating their razors?

Would that be a retrospective appraisal good Sir? Surely, they were pretty damn porn-star quality for their era?.....oh dear, wish I hadn't said that, the imagery created is too much....

It's definitely not just a non-league thing. I used to occasionally watch City when they played at Maine Road and at one particular game I was sat behind two moaners of Dave Birch proportions. It actually spoiled the game they were that irritating!
