Welcome back to the Conference, Torquay United. First fixture Gateshead away. (at least they get it out of the way whilst the sun's out).

That's Easter Monday, so will be almost certainly be a 3pm Kick Off.

Gateshead on August Bank Holiday Monday confirmed as 3 pm k/o on the August list I saw on Conference website.
Initial thoughts - I thought Salisbury (A) on a Tuesday night in October a few years back was a lunatic piece of scheduling but Woking (A) on the first Tuesday in December probably beats it. The chances of the Dover game in December & the Eastleigh game in January both happening on schedule might well be less than 100% - and yet we play Halifax on Saturdays in October & March. Strange ...
For info - FA Cup 4QR is 25 Oct & R1 is 8 Nov (hence no league games); FA Trophy R1 is 13 Dec & R2 10 Jan (also a blank league date).

Shame that the Macclesfield home game is on Tuesday 30th September.
Utterly bewildering and hugely disappointing.
Why on earth are we not playing Macc home and away over Christmas and New Year?
They've been given Grimsby Town for Heaven's sake!

Not to mention that our two fixtures against Southport are scheduled to be played on Saturdays and yet we have been allocated Tuesday night away games at the likes of Lincoln City; Grimsby Town and Kidderminster Harriers.
Plus we conclude with four away matches in our last six fixtures.

We've also got six away evening matches but only two at home, which seems pretty unfair.

Probably starts from the idea that the coppers will not want Chester to play Wrexham at Xmas/New Year; we've probably ended up with Chester in order to avoid that, & in that case the police might have said Macc v Wrexham was a non-starter too. Unfortunately that's the world we live in ... Incidentally, I always though it likely that Southport would be the Bank Holiday fixture so that doesn't surprise me at all.
-
Good to see a nice flow of comments again. This past three weeks in particular has been very quiet on here.
The season...it's not far away now.
COME ON ALTY
-
Doesn't today just bring home the enormity of our achievement. Badly arranged or not, the release of the fixtures really ratchets up the anticipation doesn't it? And no more trips to two bit grounds with 2 step terraces, no toilets, hedges down one side and sub 300 gates. Bring it on.
-
Cant believe the Macc fixtures we should complain after waiting so long to pay them again .... ??? :-[
-
Are we playing Chester at Christmas because the police want Wrexham v Chester in midweek?
-
Gateshead on two of the 4 Bank Hols? Beyond belief!!!
Is it done by computer or a logarithmic table? Some of those fixtures defy sense - particularly some of the Tuesday ones.
I can see this being moved to Friday or something like for a TV game: 16/8 Bristol Rovers (H)
-
Did I spot Dover away the weekend before Crimbo too?
-
Woking away on 2nd December. Awesome!!!
-

Nope, Dover at home weekend before. The away game is the weekend of my birthday, which is on the Monday.
Regarding the Macc games, looking games in which GMP will be at include United vs Newcastle (Boxing Day) and City vs Sunderland (New Years Day). Maybe both us and Macc were advised to not play each other on bank holidays too, as I think I've heard it's double the cost for the same number of coppers, although could be wrong. Only explanation I can think of anyway.

Unfortunately we are probably nearer to Gateshead than everyone bar Halifax......I always suspected it would be the "Bank Holiday Special".

don't tempt fate for them
-
Not the worst start we could have had i can see the bottom clubs being roughly the same need to pick up some pts in the first six games playing teams like aldershot lincoln and southport. Bristol might struggle too the're skint

Back in the mid 90s I'm sure we used to play Gateshead a bit on the Bank Holidays.

Headline on page 45 of today's issue of the MEN:
ASKEY FUMING AT LACK OF CHRISTMAS CRACKER
Macclesfield boss John Askey has been left fuming by the Conference fixtures for next season.
"It's an absolute disgrace," said Askey.
"Everyone wants to do less travelling over Christmas and to play a local side to boost the gate.
Instead they are sending us to Grimsby on New Year's Day and also Bristol.
It's poor."
"I think the league has to look at how they do the fixtures."
Alty boss Lee Sinnott wasn't happy either, although the Robins do face their other Cheshire rivals, Chester FC on Boxing Day.
"We're allowed to request which opponents we'd like over Christmas but we didn't get one of them at all," he said.

Who else did we want besides Macc? (if not Chester?) Not Southport, surely? only near one left after that would be Massifax.?!
