Their sending off was harsh, there was a touch of offside and a keeper error for our goals.....and it cost £13 for celtic fans to watch that standing up in the fresh air!!!

Not sure I'd have the minerals to send the lad off inside 2 minutes.But all though a defender is running across to cover, there's every probability that McGivern would have got a shot off, thus it denied a goal scoring opportunity.Id be interested to hear Phil and Ian's interpretation of it.

I agree with Socrates as it denied McGivern the opportunity and I doubt the other defender would have got a challenge in. Correct red card in my view, although a lot of refs would not have given it.

I think that's where the element of fortune comes into it. It was a foul, it did deny a clear goalscoring opportunity, so it shoul be a red but they are rarely given and even more rarely given in the first minute.
It was the right decision but still a surprise to get it.

I didn't see the incident on the night but having watched the excellent video I would say that the Red Card was both correct and appropriate (sorry Ballers that was absolutely NOTHING like what you described to me)

Re the second goal the video is inconclusive as Flynn only really comes into shot as the ball is arriving in the Stalybridge area and, as we all know, offside is adjudged when the ball is played.

I once heard someone say (and it's true) The goals don't move only the players and the ball. I assume this to mean that once you have orientated yourself, provided you know where you are in relation to where the goals were they will still be there so that is the direction to aim in

Now i've seen the replay I can see that McGivern was in a better position than I first thought (and I was standing in that corner at the time). Mcgivern is going to win us penalties all over the place very much in the Rod Thornley manner by running at defenders and giving them no option other than to make contact.
