Green, Green Grass Of Home
« on: August 14, 2014, 05:47:32 PM »

I noticed these post match comments by the Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson in the Lincolnshire Echo:

"It was a game we needed to win if I am perfectly honest but I knew it would be difficult.

The pitch was difficult, you couldn’t run with the ball.

The grass was that long it was untrue.

We struggled to run with it."

It also crossed my mind that the J Davidson Stadium grass did seem longer than normal on Tuesday evening.

Anyone else get that impression?

And, before I get accused of haranguing Neil Brown, it's just an observation....

Was the grass long? Were they struggling to run with the ball at all?

Good job Droylsden are not here now! It's a bit rich though from Lincoln, I know it is a long time ago but last time they were in this league they were notorious for heavily watering the pitch to prevent any opposition passing the ball around and to suit their Wimbledonesque aerial combat approach.

I thought that it looked particularly green, almost like astroturf.

It has probably been left a bit long as it is still establishing itself, and bedding in after the close season work on it.

I look after a bowling green and I am use to people going on about it being too slow too quick etc. They only complain when they lose on it  ???

Is that an Alfreton or a Braintree centre back?
