Title: BPA - Match thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on October 24, 2016, 11:03:27 AM
Well we really need to toughen up after Saturday, but it won't help lift the team if the club are a soft touch. After being promised at that meeting after the welling game at the end of last season that never again would we give up home advantage for a couple of hundred away supporters, especially in an important six pointer, we duly did it at the very first opportunity to do so, killing and atmosphere for the home supporters. It had no baring on the result, but it really is laughable.

BHC is too lightweight and not really good enough. I know we need some width and two up top but it's pointless if we haven't got decent wingers.

Wilkinson is wasted on centre mid as we saw against Telford he barely touched the ball when he moved back there. Put Willinson behind Marsh/Reeves.

I would potentially give Harry Cain a start on the left wing, he's quick and direct might just unsettle a BPA defence low on confidence. Let's face it he can't be worse than what we were served up at the weekend!

I'd give Cain a game he could be any worse than Jimmy Lawrie I would seriously consider keeping Moult and Richman on the bench as well.
Also don't put Hobson in the back four and most importantly play players in their natural position.  That way we will if nothing else give ourselves half a chance..

If we lose this then sh*t creek beckons (without the paddle)

To the players I say. Show passion, show heart, show fight, show pride in the club, just like the supporters do

C'mon Alty

There are those of us who actually wish to swap ends & stand behind the goal we're attacking in the second half as well, you know. Segregation is by no means everyone's cup of tea.
As to the match itself - of course we desperately need three points. If we are to achieve this we need at least two midfield players who will challenge for the ball and hopefully transfer it to others to create danger. One of Miller or Lawrie would have to be benched to achieve this; I personally would think about benching both & putting Cain on (assuming he's fit & available) with simple instructions to use the left wing, run straight lines & get the ball across into the penalty area as often as possible - preferably below head height. Of the midfielders available only Richman & to a lesser extent Moult are likely to offer a consistent challenge for the ball - I haven't seen a great deal of Joyce but what I have seen doesn't impress me. Goodall might challenge but is so slow as to challenge the speed of milk on the turn at times. Wilkinson needs to be there for creativity purposes, but candidly I don't know what the best combination might be - I don't envy the manager that conundrum. Defensively Hall & Cyrus is probably as good a central partnership as is available to us pro tem; Deasy, Patterson & McWilliams would complete that department for tomorrow. Marsh isn't ready for 45 minutes, leave alone 90 at the moment so far as I can see, so Reeves leads the line (or more likely IS the line). Best of luck, Mr. Harvey!

Quite frightening that 14 games in no one can agree on a starting 11

BPA have never won at our place, so they'll probably manage it this time.

...and it's been like this for nearly two years now (since we put together that long run playing 4-5-1 and then inexplicably dispensed with it).

Most of the lineups suggested on this forum would make Sinnott's selections look sensible  :D

The trouble we're all having (and Jim especially) is that we presently can' t find 11 players good enough to compete in this league.  Every time I select my team, I'm thinking, who the hell can play at centre back, or who the hell can play in midfield? I see some posters have still selected Jake in midfield, though he's obviously playing with his head down at the moment and surely that can't be any good for anyone. We are short of defenders, tough midfielders, creative midfielders, width, pace and leaders. Most of our decent players were either released, or not offered good enough terms in the summer. We were left, in my honest opinion, with lads who either weren't good enough or simply didn't want to be at Alty but were on half decent contracts.
If we stay up, it will be Jim's little miracle.

                     Deasy
Patterson Cyrus Hall McWilliams
Miller    Goodhall Moult Cain
         Hobson Reeves

Good old fashioned 4-4-2. To think we could expect them to play elaborate formations to me is a bit much. Just give everyone a job that they know they can do and let them get on with it.

I wouldn't have Goodall anywhere near an Alty shirt.

Same. He has obviously been half decent in the past but his legs have gone.

I was heartened to learn that Bradford Park Avenue had signed the former Chester goalkeeper Jon Worsnop.

He was delightfully magnanimous to us on a previous occasion:

Don't under estimate Ryan Crowthers superb contribution in the goal

You can see that Goodall has a football brain but his legs have defo gone. I'd stick with Moult and Richman but go with Marsh and Reeves tonight.

3-1 down to bottom of the league.

There are no positives from this,we are truly a total shambles.

   The Evostick looms even closer.

Reading the updates online, one of the biggest culprits is Cyrus, he seems to make fk ups on an alarmingly frequent basis

His confidence looks completely shot to me. Heavy touches all over the place and constantly gave away the ball, looked like he didn't even want it as the game wore on.

Absolutely shambolic performance tonight, convincingly beaten by a side who haven't won a single game all season.

3-2 loss and Sinclair even missed two open nets, this season is somehow getting worse

I only saw the second half but I agree

Very hard time to be an Alty fan

I think it's a low point for me in the last 30 odd years

Slow motion car crash for the second half.
First half we looked much better than Saturday- players getting stuck in challenging for the ball. It seemed much improved. But then Cyrus seemed to lose his head, Patterson tried to make amends but gave away the free kick. After the first goal everything went down the pan. The aimless balls hooded up to nobody isn't the style of football I want at the club. Nobody will pay to watch this type of rubbish. Keep the ball on the floor and pass it. One of the few times we kept it on the floor and played through the middle we made it 2:3.
Think we need a proper leader on the pitch.
