Title: Eastleigh Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on January 25, 2024, 09:19:13 AM
See they had  4-4 thriller on wednesday.

            Gould

Banks.  Cooper.  Baines.  Jones

     Marriott.   Osbourne

  Newby.   Con-Clarke.  Amaluzor

           Linney

Alty 3-1 Eastleigh (Linney, Con-Clarke x2)

Only thing that can scupper is the pitch

Possible banana 🍌 skin for a couple of reasons this weekend. A win would really set us up. Think we might just edge it but we really need to take our chances.
I'm going for an odd goal victory.

To regain our momentum after all the PP it’s a must win for me. We should have got something down there & need to put that right. Same team as in the first post I reckon. Eastleigh will be reeling after seeing the MUFC tie snatched away from them & then throwing it away (twice) last night at Boreham Wood-plus it’s a long old journey up here for a team who played Weds night.

On you know what, the temperatures & weather largely favourable between now & Saturday afternoon so whilst the pitch will obvs be heavy, I can’t see any doubts about it being on.

Oh and if we get a pen please let Newby or Linney take it.

Same XI as the OP, swapping the winger sides (being pedantic).

Regan's missed a couple of pens too (which is really annoying as his first ones for the club were fairly emphatic, I genuinely thought we'd solved the headache) - Alex Newby on them I think.

Quite a lot of rain due today, and then the sun will be shining all of Friday with no further rain due until kick off - if the pitch can't recover in that timeframe then we really do have a problem.

Same as above.

Hoping for an update on the pitch before the game.

Having seen the pitch the other day on line, I wouldnt be surprised if it isn’t called off again. Hope I’m wrong, if it goes ahead. Alty 3 - 1 Eastleigh.

Possibly Newbys last game ?

Yes. I meant to put it to the boffins on here about Newby. What do we think the chances are of keeping him until the end of the season (when, I believe, his contract at Colchester expires)?

If the Cowleys  see him in their plans,he will possibly go back otherwise its loan extended, pay a transfer fee or get released from his contact ?

They have just signed Alastair Smith on loan from Lincoln so hopefully they will let us hang on to Alex

I get the impression that Alex N wishes to come back to the NW for lifestyle reasons as much as football. So, if the Cowleys are sympathetic to that (and I imagine they’ll want a big clear out in the summer to prepare for a L2 promotion bid next season anyway) then we might just get lucky & keep him until the end of the season. Be a big loss if he does go back.

Obviously some well placed photgraphs, but pitch looks OK.

Game on.

We were terrific today. Only one team in it and 4-0 reflects the balance of play.

Every outfield player was excellent! If we can keep key players fit for the remainder of the season, the play-offs beckon…

My dad summed it up pretty well; 4-0 flattered Eastleigh. If we could finish, we'd be lethal.

That was a VERY convincing win! Could have been even more emphatic actually.
I've really got to fight the urge and not to get carried away (I'm sure others feel the same!) but if this best (outfield) side can keep fit ... who knows where we can finish!
Come on you Supers indeed! 😉

We justified the flattering remarks Chesterfield gave us. I expect Parky will keep the players feet on the ground. Not sure I can. It's getting more and more difficult not to get carried away. We looked like a league side today. Other results went out way and over 2K home fans was another encouraging plus.

Whisper it quietly, but we're 9 behind Barnet with 2 games in hand, and we're 12 behind Bromley with 3 in hand.

Still very tight below us though, let's hope we don't lose focus...

Feet firmly on the ground but I’d start looking at Wembley hotels for the playoff final date… We are getting better with each game and can’t see where our next loss will come from! BELIEVE!

Finishing third is not beyond us. Home semi, then Wembley and Bob's your uncle! 😉

There. I've said it!

We were very good today.

Literally blew them away, they couldn’t deal with our tempo and waves of attacks.

Top team performance.

Linney deserved the MOTM. He has been immense in the last two games and seems back to full match fitness. Different animal with him up top.

Need to be keeping Newby, so consistent.

All eleven hit good marks today. The sharpest I have seen them so far. The lads are very fit now, and using Eddie Jones to play left back but also in midfield was a very good plan. We smothered Eastleigh who I expected to give us a tough test today, but the Alty lads made them look very ordinary.

Well done lads.

PS. I’m not sure that letting kids play on the pitch at half time is good for the pitch.. Just a thought.

It is certainly not beyond us, but we'd need pretty much everyone to remain fit and that seems unlikely. I wonder if the arrangement with Man U still stands?

Very impressive today and totally deserved win, as mentioned above we smothered Eastleigh from possession and then passed them off the pitch. An excellent team performance from all, including Matt Gould who hasn't played much but made a couple of decent saves and did exactly what was need when called upon. All outfield players superb and Regan Linney deserved mom, great credit to Parky, Sorvs and the lads for an overall superb performance. 8)

That was superb. Eastleigh couldn’t live with us & from 1-11 everyone made a contribution. Back to 2000+ Saturday home gates being the norm too. Should get 3k against Rochdale in a few weeks I’d wager.

Be good on Tuesday for the squad & also Parky mentioned Donowa in his interview too so great to see him back.

The pitch looked fine too. The real test will be the 3 games in 7 days mind.

Very similar to the Barnet game, except that we kept the energy and workrate up until the end this time, a massive positive and must bode well for the future.
Eastleighs' training session at Old Trafford on Friday didn't do them much good!

So our 'arrangement with Utd is for them to spook our opponents prior to the game then, Great idea !!!
The lads are simply oozing confidence i really believe the Chesterfield game proved we are the real deal despite the result . Lest we forget we were amongst the teams expected to struggle in some quarters . Proud  to be Alty forever 😍

If we'd have been awarded two pens, the score would have ended up precisely 4-0  :P

It did cross my mind when we had the penalty shouts that would CCC continue with the stutter technique or not. I think he's been sussed out and keepers wait until he kicks the ball.
