At the replay, lots of United fans in the Stretford End chanting "Altrincham United" as United were going out 3-2 at Walsall in their replay which was taking place at he same time.

Ahh yes I remember it well.

As the saying goes, - I was there ....................

at bloody Walsall !!

We should follow the example of Accrington and produce tickets to commemorate our game against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. if we all get our tickets now it will save queing in the cold outside the ground in a few years time.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-30680502

The ploy is obviously targeted at the gullible MUFC fans who will pay through the nose for anything that has the Manchester United name or badge on it.

Good luck to them, they have clearly got nothing to lose.

So no one out there has managed to get the second Scottish team whose name contains the first five letters of the alphabet, A, B, C, D & E.

Shame on you all.

Keep guessing and whilst you are at it, don't forget that tickets for the Question of Sport' Quiz which follows the home game v Torquay United on Saturday 17th January will be on sale from the TASC desk in the Community Sports Hall on New Year's Day before the match against Chester.

If you can't make it on Thursday (New Year's Day) but would like to reserve tickets beforehand and would like to benefit from the £1 discount for early purchase, please leave me a personal message here on the forum confirming how many tickets you would like.

As well as teams from the Players, Management, Radio Robins/Alty TV and TASC Supporters, the quiz is open to everyone.

Entry Fee is £5.00 in advance or £6.00 on the day and includes a hotpot supper.

The quiz will start circa 6.15-6.30 following the home match v Torquay United.

Bump

I know it's not even 2015 yet, but tickets will be on sale for the Easter Draw at the game v Chester on New Year's Day.

Book early to avoid disappointment !

Geoff Hurst?  (Essex & West Ham)

Spot On - Not only did he not take a wicket, but he never scored a run in his first class career.

To quote from Wikipedia

"Hurst played one first-class cricket match for Essex, against Lancashire at Aigburth in 1962, although it was not a successful outing: he made 0 not out in the first innings, and was bowled by Colin Hilton, again for 0, in the second. However, he appeared 23 times in the Essex Second XI between 1962 and 1964, usually as a wicketkeeper, before concentrating entirely on football"

I can see we are going to have top make these questions a bit harder !

OK second question ...

Name the two teams in the Football League, whose names contain the first 5 letters of the alphabet in their name ? i.e. A, B, C, D & E ?

As you didn't specify which football league I'll take Cowdenbeath as well... ;)

That was to be the follow up question name the TWO Scottish League teams ...

So Cowdenbeath is one ..... one more to go ?

And no cheating by checking the Sunday papers

Great coverage today again guys and we appreciate all you do but could we make a request that has appeared a couple of times on the chat room.  When there is a goal scored or big roar from the crowd please give us the headline first "he's scored" "he saved it" "red card for number 8" type thing and then do the detail.  For example today's coverage went a bit like this...

RR: "There's a shot and it's taken a deflection and oh.....he ran down the right, took a shot from around 20 yards which looked like it was going wide and it just looped up and over Parton.."
Listeners: did it go in or did it go over the bar as well?
RR:  "I think the deflection came of Densmore and it dramatically altered the course of the shot"
Listeners: but did it go in or not?
RR: "what do you think John?" " Yes it was Densmore who got in the way, really unlucky as he made a great challenge"
Listeners: Yes we know that but did it go in or is it just a corner?
RR: "Yes that was so unlucky for Shaun who has had a good game so far.."
Listeners: It sounds like we are behind now but no-one has actually said that, I hope they are just upset about conceding a corner..
RR: "So Alty kick off and...."
Listners: bugger we are losing

Thanks chaps

As one of the commentators on duty yesterday I have read your constructive comments with interest and if your quoted segments are correct then it seems as if you have a fair point.

I'm sure all of our commentary team will take your comments on aboard, in the hope of increasing our listeners enjoyment and satisfaction.

In my defence of the two Alty goals yesterday the quality of both strikes was enough to take the breathe away and make us lost for words. I'm sure this will be confirmed when Alty TV post the highlights !

We all like to think that we are providing a decent quality service for any exiled Alty fans and any feedback, whether good and bad, is always noted and welcome.

Thank you to all our listeners for your support throughout the year and have a Merry Christmas, and we look forward to your continued support.

To commemorate the opening of the new Community Sports Hall, TASC will be running a 'Question Of Sport' Quiz Night on Saturday 17th January 2015 following the home game with Torquay United.

The quiz will be based on the popular BBC programme with teams from the Players, The Management, TASC Supporters and Radio Robins/Alty TV competing against each other for bragging rights on who has the best sporting knowledge.

In addition the quiz is open to all other supporters and friends teams. Entry is either £5.00 per person in advance or £6.00 on the night which includes a hotpot supper.

The quiz will start at approximately 6.00pm .

Get your team sorted now for what promises to be a highly entertaining evening. There is no limit on the size of team but a handicap system will be in operation !

Tickets will be on sale on Saturday before the game v Dover Athletic and all other home matches over the  Christmas period from the TASC Desk which will be located in the bar area of the Community Sports Hall.

As a starter and to get your thinking head on ahead of the quiz, here is a little teaser ...

"Which player never took a wicket for his county in his first class cricket career, but managed a hat trick whilst playing for England ?"

The quality of the pictures from Sky TV on the projector screens is first class.

So they should be at the price SKY TV is charging!

In his column in last Saturday's issue of the Robins Review, an indignant Grahame Rowley disclosed that the subscription fee to SKY is the eye-watering sum of £548 + VAT per month.

(S)ALTY, you'll need to order a few more pints to help finance that!

I'm sure I can manage that !

I might even offer to buy you a G&T

The Greg Wilkins inn

The Kenny Pale Inn ?

The quality of the pictures from Sky TV on the projector screens is first class.

You could even see the tears on Brendon Rodgers face when United's third goal went in.

Plenty of room for everyone to sit down and have a drink before the match next Saturday

No need to go to Costellos or the King Bill pre match.

Get down there early have a few drinks and support the club in the process.

Phew !!

For a moment there reading the title I thought we'd got rid of George Heslop as youth team manager following him being raffled off at the Pensioners Christmas Party !!

The TASC Pensioners Christmas Lunch took place today in The Manchester Glass Ltd Sponsors Lounge & raised £353 for Altrincham Football Club....which is a great effort & our thanks go to everyone who attended.

Dave Johnson did a superb job in the kitchen & we would like to thank The Best Western Cresta Court Hotel for providing the food.

Further details & photos of the event will appear on the club website later this week & in Saturday's match programme.

A first class meal, and a good time had by all. The opportunity to share a table with Alty legend George Heslop. And a raffle prize to top it off. Quality !

Was George Heslop the raffle prize?

Now there's a thought !

What could or would you use George for if you did win him as a raffle prize ?   ???  ???

The forum is open for suggestions

.. a fantastic late run from Mark Embury and Andy Mein's 'Tom Marshall Fan Club' was not quite good enough to pinch top spot in the final round of the TASC Champions League Prediction Competition.

They picked up a magnificent 19 points in the final round of matches courtesy of 4 all correct score predictions, but it wasn't quite enough to dislodge James Hill's 'Rainmans Mugging Devils' who hung on to win by 2 points.

Not only does James win the cash for first place but more importantly gains valuable bragging rights over his father, Mike, whose team 'Rainman's Mugging Foxes' finished well down the batting order in 16th place.

Colin Mitchell's 'Team PSG Womble' slipped from 2nd to 3rd in the final week to finish one point behind the Tom Marshall Fan Club.

Congratulations to all three teams who pick up the prize money and a big thank you to all who took part.

Hopefully we will be able to run another prediction competition in the not to distant future.

The final table looks like this

1   Rainman's Mugging Devils   68
2   Tom Marshall Fan Club   66
3   Team PSG Womble      65
4   Hardly Athletic              63
T5   Parkhill Rangers              62
T5   The Mighty Robins      62
7   United On The Up      61
8   West Vale Wanderers      60
T9   Malchester United      56
T9   Where's Man U              56
T9   Peter Foster              56
T9   No Hopers                      56
12   Shortdean United      55
T13   Female Flagger              52
T13   Snowballers Albion      52
16   Rainman's Mugging Foxes   49
17   George's Megamen      45
18   Martha's Minnions      33

If any of the winners are intending to visit the Community Sports Hall Open Day on Sunday they can claim their winnings from the TASC table. If not we will arrange for your winnings to be forwarded to you.

Tuesday's Champions League results saw the leading team 'Rainman's Mugging Devils 2 point lead cut to just one ahead of the final round of matches on Wednesday evening, with PSG Womble closing the gap.

There were no less than 8 correct 4-0 predictions for Real Madrid to beat Ludogorets meaning that there were some significant points collected on the night.

The biggest gainers were Mark Embury and Andy Mein's 'Tom Marshall Fan Club' who picked up 10 points on the night courtesy of two all correct score predictions, and moves them up from Tied 7th to Tied 3rd just 4 points behind the leader. Can they sustain their late run for the line with tomorrow's results or will James Hill's 'Rainmans Mugging Devils' manage to cling on to top spot ?

The full leader board with all to play for tomorrow currently stands as follows:

1   Rainman's Mugging Devils      61
2   Team PSG Womble      60
T3   United On The Up      57
T3   Tom Marshall Fan Club      57
5   Hardly Athletic      56
T6   West Vale Wanderers      54
T6   Parkhill Rangers      54
T6   The Mighty Robins      54
T9   Malchester United      50
T9   Where's Man U      50
T9   Shortdean United      50
T12   Peter Foster      46
T12   Female Flagger      46
T12   No Hopers      46
15   Rainman's Mugging Foxes      45
16   Snowballers Albion      44
17   George's Megamen      43
18   Martha's Minnions      31
