Title: Woking match thread.
Post by: Hugh on November 14, 2022, 09:43:53 PM
Anyone who just wants to talk about teams and tactics, knock yourself out.

Personally and to state the obvious, I don't fancy our chances although if we repeat our secpnd half performance against City, who knows?
Adam Virgo tells us that the Crds are hard-working and combative. Would it be too outlandish to suggest that the hard-working and combative (and club captain) Jordan Hulme be given some game time, unless there is a fitness issue? Alternatively, perhaps our leading scorer might be given more than ten minutes to try and unlock the "outstanding" defensive pair of Cuthbert and Mcnerney? Whatever the issue may have been, one would hope it is resolved by now. Kosylo aside, we are looking close to full strength now, giving the manager the right sort of problems, so hopefully we can give it a go.

We might get lucky if their Wednesday FA Cup tie at home to Oxford United is particularly gruelling.

Woking are a proper bogey team, arent they. But that said, we need to go there keep confidence high.

We're overdue an unexpected win.

Got to be honest, I didn't expect us to beat York.

According to the stats, yes. We've won 1 in 8 against them (1 draw). I would say that's as bogey as it gets and hardly a happy hunting ground.

Even taking home stats in to account, we won 4 in 16, conceeding 31 and only scoring 17.

I expect that was Laurence Batty in goal for Woking

We nearly beat them away last year with a shoe string team but they seem to have improved a lot.

I'd start the same 11 from Saturday.

I knew what that was without even opening the link, all time classic by one of our greatest of the last 20 years. Can we avoid the textbook 2-0 Kingfield defeat is the question? Woking are a top outfit these days, role models for us in they’ve invested a bit in the ground & now get larger attendances & are serious contenders for the EFL.

Also, I hadn't realised that Woking are playing Oxford United tomorrow night! Surely we will be fresher then them!

I mentioned that in the second post of this thread - and it being on Wednesday rather than tonight is a plus point for us.

All going well for us so far at Woking vs Oxford. 1-1 at half time. Is there extra time or straight to a replay if it's tied at 90 minutes?

This is a replay. Et and pens if required tonight.

It's not, oxford had a waterlogged pitch so they rescheduled

Oooh didn't spot that. Thanks. Ended 1 2.

Didn't we lose about 7-1 at Woking once, possibly when Clive Walker was playing? Still, we should feel at home on the Chris Lane terrace, though I'm slightly surprised he has a terrace named after him (and even more surprised at Darren Royle's role at Oldham)! Reminds me of the Vimto ad on the butty van at Kingfield once even though the person serving had never heard of Vimto.

Our current best side out today.
Come on you Supers!

PS. Would be happy to take a point 😉

Stay strong in the next 10 mins of the 2nd of half and we could go on to win this. They look jaded! We are doing well after the first 5-10 mins. Ryan playing well! Good to see a few down here! COYR

Before the game would have been happy with 1-1...
....but a silly goal to give away so late - disappointed!

Harsh to concede so late, but you’d have definitely taken a point at 3pm.

Elliot strikes again!! How many times does he want to give away a free kick in stupid areas?

Osborne is such an average player and his lack of mobility makes him a liability for pointless free kicks.
A lot of blocks made by Baines on the updates. Glad we have him back, will become a decent CB for us.
Shame to concede so late on but decent point.

Would have had Pringle and Kaja on the bench. If they were fit.

Frustrating we couldn’t see it out but it does sound like we played v well throughout and now 4/6 gives us something to build on for Eastleigh next Saturday. No coincidence that with Baines & Mullarkey back we are beginning to tighten up defensively too. Also sounds as expected that Newby & Jennings are giving us an extra edge up top. 97 fans down to Woking is a decent turnout too, now to get 2k in next Saturday & bag the points.

Hope we remain unchanged next game. That's probably our best starting eleven.

Barrows on the bench when he's served his ban is quite a decent option.

Our centre backs were immense today. Byrne needs to sort his kicking out. Silly free kick for osbourne to give away, I like him more than most on here but he does have an alarming tendency to give away silly fouls in dangerous places. Wasn’t overly impressed with Jennings vs York but he grew on me today, lots of balls stuck to him I thought he had no chance to control

TBF to Osbourne having now seen the highlights the Woking lad has got the wrong side and is near the edge of our box in a central position so I can see why he pulled him back. Osbourne’s problem was that the foul at Torquay that ultimately led to the late equaliser was completely needless when their lad was going nowhere with his back to goal on the touchline & therefore with something like today he has lost the benefit of the doubt.

Worth reflecting that we have now not conceded from open play in three halfs of football. Having been critical of his ball across against Wealdstone, I should also give credit to Colclough for the cross that laid the goal on a plate today. To be fair to Woking, they put us under a lot of pressure in the second half, and if it hadn't been the (excellent) freekick, it might have been something else.

I think it is our best 11, still may have Hulme over Jennings.
Hulme hasn't been in the starting 11 this season with two decent wide players playing at the same time. I think he would bring them into play. Saying that Jennings hasn't done anything wrong and has some nice touches.

Would have Pringle and Kaja on the bench.
