That's interesting Saughall Robin. I was monitoring them during the Covid seasons. They were pleading poverty and applied for a a grant rather than a loan during the second round of handouts.
Maybe the local money men have come on board since then.

Looking at The Shay, you would think that the infrastructure is there to do well. We are doing well despite the infrastructure!

They had a local money man in Dave Allen....ex Sheff Weds owner....he is a multi millionaire  who runs casinos and dog tracks.....hmmmm. He withdrew his backing after a fall out and the club went from the L1 playoffs to almost ConfN as a result. The club is now owned by a Community Trust and run by committee.
They did well during covid....they won an insurance claim having been seemingly insured against any losses during a pandemic.
No idea if they in a good or dire financial position. I have a friend within the club who insists the former. What I do know is they will challenge for a second promotion next season

Thanks for that AussieShaymen. I missed the not for profit bit. Good luck with that. It sounds like you need a philanthropist or someone with a bit of vision.

It looks like the first step is to understand why there's a shortfall of £160K a year and what the chances are of being able to address that6.
I take your point about Halifax being a bigger club historically. Really, rather than looking at us you should be taking a good look at how Spirites have managed to turn things around imho.
Nope.....The Spirerites have a number of millionaire backers on board....all are genuine fans from the town. The Chesterfield model is not based on any commercial genius...just money.

Like Notts County and Wrexham, they have a substantial fanbase when winning. Crowds Altrincham and Halifax can only aspire to

So how does our situation differ from that of FC Halifax. Are we leasing the ground from Trafford Borough?

I tried to register on the Shay men forum to find out what's going on but they don't seem to be signing up new members at the moment. Probably trying to avoid an influx of trolls

Given what happened in recent years, we're responsibile for the ground, and they the lands. Whereas Halifax own or operate neither.
And don't we also have many years left on the lease....hence protected from Council deciding to sell the land the ground sits on

Terrible news.

Could sell to an investor and give AFC a lease......equals rent rises and probably relegation back to North

Could sell to a developer.....same as above if groundsharing with BPA or Dewsbury....or worse...club folds

Did the Countil not rescue the club when it went bust....say peppercorn rent for the Shay tenancy ?

Indeed....take your point.

The magic of the FA cup though is just that....it is all about the 'if onlys'.....hopefully our 3rd round game against Manchester United will be soon and will kick-start big things, albeit I am not sure you are allowed to  switch ties and give up home advantage just to generate more income

4th Qual Round Oldham beat Alty
1st Round  Newport knocked out Oldham
2nd Round Newport knocked out Barnet
3rd Round replay - Eastleigh v Newport
Winner plays Man United @ Home.

Could that of been us?
Yes....if we had won four ties.

A few more wins and we would be playing Liverpool or Manchester City at Wembley.

To be fair it can happen. I was at the semi final in 97 when David Ellery (ref) robbed Chesterfield a place in the FA Cup Final....a family friend was playing that day and nullified Fabrizio Ravanelli

That's going to disrupt them before our game, not an attractive gig for Phil/Neil either.

No fear of them leaving Alty for a club any lower than the Championship in my opinion.  They are not motivated by money alone and have shown themselves to be loyal and committed to our club. Phil will see that we reach the EFL2 and then it will be his nature to extend his ambition to win a place in the EFL1.  By then he and Sorvs will definitely on the radar of some much bigger clubs, however, if you were him wouldn't you be tempted with the drive and ambition to push on with Alty.?

This may seem unlikely to some and when I was at Moss Lane watching Alty play Wigan Athletic in a 1974 Northern Premier League match it never crossed my mind that the visitors were going to become a future FA Cup winning Premier League Club. Wimbledon achieved the same thing only their rise began in the Southern League (they might even achieve something akin to it again).  Luton were in the National League just 10 seasons ago.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Burton were regulars in the Championship and overtook us from below

A great response from the players after the two Halifax games....one which was garbage...the other which was spoiled by playing with ten men, albeit commendable in the end to secure a draw.

Should have been over the hill before they scored...missed quite a few which really should have been converted.

The CCC Maradona moment was awesome to see.

Well done all, but let's stop these nervous last ten minutes when we have done everything perfectly before that

Word on the street is Ali is off Bolton.....Dan who was stood next to me said "Parky needs to sub Kosy...he is only one more foul from a red".....10 seconds later it happened.
To be fair our 2nd half start did not help...but the game was a challenge with ten men and rode it out

Great game by two good teams.Agree with all the above.
Yes, ref should have paused after the bugler had finished to avoid confusion....although it was announced that there would be a minute of silence. It was then thoroughly respected once people realised....although people should have stood still.

All in all the whole day a great advert for Altrincham FC and NL football
