Why are people referring to SC**thorpe? I wouldn't think we hate them enough to warrant the **? Is there any history behind this??

Are you serious?

Type your post again  :D

I don't understand  ??? ??? ???

It says a naughty word thats obviously not allowed on here and filtered. I do find it funny everytime someone writes SC**thorpe though  :)

Always reminds me of that saying "If Typhoo put the 'T' in Britain, who put the ....? (You can imagine the rest!  :D

I was also at the games against Barrow, Sheff United and Orient (as well as both away games against the latter two).
Was the Wigan game an evening match which was important in deciding the CL title, we lost 1-0 in the days the Golf Road End was uncovered?

Hi Redhill.
I'll answer to the best of my knowledge although I only started going in 1965 when I was 15 (as it cost a lot of money to get from Harpurhey to Alty on buses and trains!).
Here goes:

The Wigan 2-4 game was in the FA Cup played on a saturday (15 October 1966) and we were well and truly spanked. By the way, according to the programme (price 6d) the Red Robin Club was bouncing to the 'King of the Golden Trumpet' Eddie Calvert the previous friday and saturday. On sunday the star appearing there was Ted Lune from the Army Game series on TV! (I was too young to get in though!)

We were also beaten by Wigan AWAY on 17 September 1966 in the Cheshire League Challenge Cup and that score was 0-1 but that was a saturday too.

Our home league game with Wigan that season was Saturday 1st April 1967 and we won 2-1. Going into that game we were 4 points in front of Wigan with a game in hand and seven games to play so even had we lost we would have been favourites. After that game though we were 6 points clear of wigan who had 5 games left. Don't forget it was only 2 points for a win in those days!

If I recall correctly, we actually won the league with our 8-1 win against Rhyl on 10 April 1967.

The league games versus Wigan in 1965-6 were both draws so it couldn't have been them either (2-2 at home and 1-1 away) so the game must have been 1964-5 or earlier!

Conclusion? either you're mistaken or even older than me!  ;)

7844 against Orient - in the corner of the golf road end - had just opened turnstiles at that end of the ground and installed segregation.  I was a prgramme seller to Orient fans that day, inside that enclave.  Some bother when all flags were confiscated but tempers soon restored.

Two other big FA Cup gates:

8088 in the 4th Qualifying round in 1966-67 for a 2-4 loss to fellow Cheshire League side Wigan Athletic and 8462 the following season for a 1-2 loss to 3rd Divsion (i.e. League 1) Barrow.

More incredibly (given the profile of the competition today) Cheshire Senior Cup Final Second Leg 1966-67 Aty 3 Witton 1 (Agg 3-2) Att: 7290

For me, the best atmosphere at Moss Lane was for Alty3 Sheff Utd 0 (Att: 5137) - the Golf Road was rocking that night; much better than Alty1 SC**thorpe 0 (Att: 5176) when we were segregated to Chequers end.

I was present at the Wigan, Barrow, Witton and Sheffield games. Happy days!

Was stood on the grass bank at the side of the main stand (where the mausoleum is now) for the Sheffield match and was directly behind Barry Howards dribble and shot as we attacked the Red Robin Club end. The ball seemed to be going wide right when he hit it but swerved left to sneak in the corner. Fantastic. I think the crowd around us there who shared the view willed it to swerve enough  :)

The Witton Game brings back particular memories for me. Load of kids sat on top of the Red Robin Club roof and people climbing the floodlight pylons to get a better view in the crush (no segregation though! - half time when we changed ends got rather congested to say the least but not a hint of trouble). Witton had a pretty good team in those days managed by player manager 'strolling' Ken Barnes (ex City). Their blond Keeper (Mellor, I think) went on to play a lot of games for Fulham. They also had a future Irish international centre half Chris Nicholl (I think) who played at top level afterwards.

We'd already sewn the league up and this match (which we won 3-1 after losing the first leg 0-1 at the Central Ground) gave us (as we saw it at the time) the League and Cup 'double'! The Cheshire Senior Cup was a big thing in those days. (Note: It is today too when you win it!)

My punt would be for Irish international goalkeeper Bobby Irvine who almost singlehandedly helped to get us eliminated from the FA Cup by, amongst other things, throwing the ball into our net! Freddie Pye cancelled his contract following the match and told us speckys about it in the following (I think monday night) programme.

PS We didn't have tinternet in them days! :D

I can't understand why Wrexham and Vauxhall are not paid directly out of the £134,000 being withheld from Chester by the FA

I would have thought that it as that money is essentially Chester's and they have to agree to this happening. They haven't, so it hasn't. (could be wrong though ;))

I think we should be very flattered that Mansfield are so worried about us that they feel it necessary to try to drum up some bitterness between us where none previously existed.
Things like the Duffy is ill now he's fit scenario only happen if the manager is worried. I mean it's not as if we're going to change the way we play depending on whether he plays or not is it? We've barely got enough to fill the team sheet and the bench!
All I can say is thank God we don't act like that.
And thanks for the digs at GH - that too demonstrates he's going about things in the right way!

Given the Conference let them in the league in the first place when every instinct should have been screaming for them to do otherwise as this was an accident waiting to happen, I can't see them being proactive now. They will just do what they always seem to do ... react to outside forces. Some examples of this would include;

1.  Peake's campaign against us in 'Robinsongate'
2.  Oxford, and others, getting their points deduction reduced last year
3.  Scarborough getting 'flirted'
4.  Their actions with regard to Northwich, Farsley, Kings Lynn and quite a few others

Note that I am not saying any of their actions are either good or bad in these cases but that they only acted (when they DID act) IN RESPONSE to a third party.
That's no way to show leadership of the League in my opinion.

I hope they last till November 21st.

Unfortunately, some guesstimates on the ever dismal Devachat put it at 31 October for meltdown (when wages/bills become due)

Looks like the information might have been nearer to the truth than we thought!

The following press statement has been issued by the Football Conference regarding Chester City.

In accordance with Membership Rule 11 - for the non-payment of football creditors - Chester City FC have been placed under an immediate player embargo, in as much that:

1. Chester City FC has not complied with the terms of the compromise agreement set by the Football Conference to allow the club to participate in the competition at the commencement of the current season; and further to that fact, the club has been given 7 days, operative up to 5.30pm 26th October 2009, in which to meet the said payment terms of that agreement, otherwise they face the threat of expulsion from the Football Conference.

2. Chester City FC has failed to pay monies owing to Wrexham FC for away ticket sales relating to their fixture played on 27th September 2009 and further to that fact, the club has failed to meet a 7-day payment deadline imposed by the Football Conference.

3. Chester City has failed to pay Vauxhall Motors FC monies owed in relation to the loan of Paul Taylor, which should have been met no later than 14th October 2009.

The Football Conference will not be making any further statement on this matter at this time.

Only 3rd round game missed (inc Wolves!) was the Everton replay at OT. I was in Crumpsall hospital holding My (then) Wife's hand as our eldest daughter made her appearance into the world.

Does anyone know what is really going on there?

As far as I can see, nobody.  ...  at least nobody who can't read Mr Vaughan's mind!
