Title: Stockport Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on December 22, 2020, 06:28:16 PM
Assume Hampson will start instead of White, same starting 10 after that.

Palmer has just had a red for County (Tuesday) so I assume he'll be out of both of our fixtures.

Alty 1-1 Stockport. Hannigan

I am rubbish with bans but does that mean Rooney defo misses Boxing Day but the other fella's suspension will start after the first fixture?

just a thought. We could sell the pitch for housing and play all our games away. Is that being a bit extreme? Just a thought. 🤪

Reading Stockport's forum, it's not a happy dressing room. If that's true, no better time to shake the monkey off our back and score/win at Edgley Park. A win on Boxing Day could be key to our confidence for the NYD game.

forecast says only light showers today, no rain tomorrow or christmas day, and light showers match day. if we can't get this game played there is something seriously amiss.

They came here, patted us on the head & got a couple of simple wins in their promotion season 2 years ago. It almost felt at the time we had some kind of mental block against them. We are undoubtedly a better team & squad now, & given their result and the red cards last night it seems an ideal time to play them. I think Parky will have the lads very highly motivated for this one & think both Boxing Day & NYD could be two close affairs.

See we are 3/1 to win on Saturday. Big price that.

probably the same sort of mentality that BT Sport apply. The bigger the empty stadium you play in at home the more likely you should be to win. No looking at form. If you sort the league on the last five games only Altrincham are top. 3/1 is a very good value bet.

It’s come down ever so slightly to 14/5 but it’s still a very good price for the team top of the form guide at home. The layers clearly just looked at the names rather than the detail.

It pains me to say this, but absolute poor stream coverage today... worst i've seen... words fail me... had to give up after 15mins and listen to Radio Robins (excellent coverage on radio)... i'm so glad i'm a season ticket holder & didn't have to pay £9.99 for the stream - guess they'll be loads of complaints & requests for refunds...

Onto the game... good result in end & probably a fair one, but always gutting to concede in last 10mins... defended well most of game & Hannigan was colossal at the back... roll on Halifax away - hopefully we can get a result there & maintain our recent good form... COYR!

After 15 mins the problems were pretty much gone so you should have been more patient  ;D

I wondered if it was because more people watched than usual.

We should have won today but I'll take the point.

I thought we'd lose twice to Stocky and against Halifax so a point is already more than I expected. It was a herculean defensive effort with Matty Kosylo again exquisite on the counter attack.

We really are up against it at the minute and we desperately need some bodies back.

Another good day to be an Alty fan.

The stream was awful for the first 15 mins, then calmed down a bit.
Title: Re: Stockport Match Thread
Post by: JD on December 26, 2020, 05:53:02 PM
The stream was annoying for a while with a few freezes afterwards, but did not really spoil my enjoyment of the game once it calmed down.

That was a draw based on a superb defensive performance and TT was only really challenged a couple of times. Ringo and Smiffy in midfield worked very, very hard and our forward line was always capable of causing trouble. My only small gripe was that Peers is not a great counter attack player, but did defend well from the front.

The stream was unwatchable for the first 15 mins (buffering and freezing up, although the clock kept ticking on), which was very frustrating.

Back line generally did well and Tony T made some decent saves. Ceesay and Kosylo were dangerous on the break. Not easy to play on heavy pitch and the wind definitely played a part at times. Nice to see us finally score against County and good to see Dan Mooney back.

Defo a point gained, but annoying to concede a soft goal.

Hannigan my mom.

Full credit to the defence and Smith and Richman.

Thought we did really well against a strong team but Jake Moult was a big miss, Smith was then a big miss by playing a deeper roll, but the effort by all got us a point. well deserved

Alas, Peers was rather caught napping at the near post for their equaliser.

He also squandered an excellent opportunity to play in either Kosylo or Ceesay in one of our rare second-half counter attacks when he selected the wrong option of trying a shot.

Not his best day.

Considering the opposition I was happy with a point today. Hopefully we can get 3 points at Halifax and anything will be a bonus in the return at Stockport.

Hannigan was MoM

Ringo’s was also Very good

Interesting late substitute I had no idea we'd signed ! Jacob Blyth made his way through minor clubs in the Midlands, and at 19 left Leamington to sign for Leicester City. He never broke into the first team, but had two loan spells at Burton either side of one with Northampton. Loans at Cambridge and Blackpool followed before Leicester released him.

His next gig was at Motherwell, then he signed for Barrow where he was injured in pre-season, but scored twice against Salford later in the season proper.

He had the misfortune to sign for Macclesfield, as a result of which he'd become a free agent. In his short time on the pitch today he played one excellent ball which could have led to a scoring chance with better luck.

My fingers are firmly crossed....

In the few minutes he was on the pitch, I could see a half decent player in Jacob Blyth - he just looked like he had the physicality and stature to be the target man we so badly need.

Must admit I didn't realise it was Peers there for their equaliser.

It was not just that 2nd half counter where he goofed badly, there was one in the 1st half where he was slow/indecisive where he allowed the Stockport defence to get back

I can't remember him doing anything in 5 minutes other than committing a foul.

Not that 5 minutes is enough to judge someone

Couldn't watch the second half with family commitments, until we find the right striker I would have a front four of the five of either Ceesay, Hancock, Mooney, Colclough and Kosylo.

Considering the amount of money Stockport have put in this season and our poor recent record against them, then you’d take the point all day. The ball was in or around our box a lot, so I think as a unit the whole defence had an excellent game. Hannigan seemed to win every single header. I think Mooney returning to fitness & Blyth looked promising to me as a sub also encouraging signs for our attacking options.

A real shame when it’s been so good all season that we had some initial problems with the stream today but I enjoyed Toby M as co-commentator still, good rapport with Brian. The knowledge & research about the oppositions players always reflects well on our commentary I find.

Defended well.....but the goal was coming. Happy with a point.

Main thing for me - despite every major injury setback, Parky and Sorvs seem to find a loanee or player that slots in and keeps us competitive as a NL team. PP/NS have an eye for players and training sessions must be very productive.

Heres hoping that Blyth is the player we need up front to replace Hulme.
