ASTLEY LEAVES
Barely 48 hours after scoring his first senior goal for Altrincham, striker Astley Mulholland has opted to leave and sign for EvoStik Premier outfit FC United of Manchester. Altrincham did not wish to stand in the player's way as, to date, he has been a used substitute rather than in the starting line-up. In all, Astley has made nine appearances from the bench this season in all competitions, having originally graduated through the Altrincham Youth and Reserve teams before a prolific spell at Flixton led to his return to Moss Lane this summer.

Good luck to him, I'm sure he'll get some goals at that level.

Hope that opens the door for Whatmore to get on the bench...

Fair enough, good luck to him. Bit of a weird time to leave after Saturday but I always get the feeling he was only signed because we couldn't get Chadwick or Rogan or someone a bit more experienced. We can get someone better in.

my view was that he was one for the future, one to bring on so to speak.

never mind, never mind.  this does free up a spot in the budget, these loan deals won't last forever...

i reckon this is a crucial decision - do we move to get another squad player on about the same cost as Astley or do we think that wee bit bigger and get some proven bsn/bsp quality in.

Must admit, always felt that myself. However, seeing the quality of finish on Saturday it is a shame he has left just when he'd had a boost to his confidence.

Good luck Astley, maybe you will return again some time.

I hope the lad does well there. It's a pity just that he's gone now when he was starting to look like he could add to our side, but at least Lee can now bring in someone else.

As stated above, it could possibly open the door for another player to sign now. Steve Connors perhaps? I doubt Astley would have been on big wages but I would imagine we'll be able to bring in a replacement.

Good luck Astley, I'm sure you'll do well at Fake United.

Should think he wanted regular football , not sit on bench , good luck to him . Maybe Lee has someone in mind .

I presume we've kept his Conference registration in case he comes good? Good move all round if we have. The lad gets games and we free up a small bit of the budget. Good luck to Astley at FSCUM.

I doubt it or I would have thought it would have said.

They will have come in for him and as it says we couldn't really say no if he isn't going to start games for us.

He has probably not been happy starting on the bench as players always want to play and none have any patience.

He'll play every week there and get some goals but at our level he has a lot to prove.

The continued use of the 'FCSUM' phrase is now absolutely CRINGEWORTHY.

It seems scoring without Mulholland is no problem. A sensible move for all concerned.

shame to see him go,IMO  he was  a good quick player and could have been prolific for us with a run...... who do we have now to bring on  ??

Hope Lee's got something up his sleeve, coz I can't help thinking that they're gonna be circling Reeves soon and offering £££'s

Why? It's my personal opinion and not that of Altrincham Football Club.
