Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Jim Harvey is the new Alty manager

I'm happy with this appointment, an experienced, knowledgeable and successful manager. I just hope his hands aren't tied too much by the possibility some of the dross we've got signed on are on season contracts. Hopefully he will be able to do some wheeling and dealing and move a good number on.

We didn't have a mass clear out when we were relegated in 2011 did we? The likes of Coburn, Reeves, Clee and Densmore all stayed on then and the budget was obviously able to take it. So what changed this time?

I don't for one minute believe any fans have got hold of Neil Young's mobile number, either Alty or Stockport, and my belief is that it is Young's past has come back to haunt him. We are all aware how he gets rid of players at the drop of a hat and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the work of one, or some, of his ex disenchanted players.....and there'll be plenty to choose from!!!

I would expect the Chairman to issue an apology in the programme, for those who buy it, in the Non-League Paper and on our website,if he cannot produce evidence of this abuse.

The very reason why, in over 55 years of watching football, I've stopped buying a programme this season.

Marshall fit and available possibly?

Just what I was saying in the bar after the game. After spending all that time and money helping him recover from his injury last season, it was a totally ludicrous decision to get rid off him without seeing if he could get fit.

He'd recovered from an injury last time he signed for us so let's get him back, get him fit and then start paying him when he starts playing.

I said that last week on the County forum in that was our normal way of preventing opposition fans from getting in our end but it had been scrapped as none of our fans knew who played for us!

Hope we can get him playing in midfield soon, can't help but feel that he's wasted at full back.

Agreed JTH's post is sensible. We don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater: Hannigan, Cyrus, Patterson, Moult, Lawrie, Richman, Goodall, Reeves, add Sinclair and we have 7-8 there that are the nucleus of a solid outfit who can more than compete at this level. Lower mid table might be our level this season but I wouldn't expect us to be in relegation trouble.

Agree with those names but just retaining those leaves another 17 or 18 to replace, if we can get rid of them as most will probably be on contract.

Even before we appointed Young, and I was probably the first to be critical of him taking over, I didn't expect anything better than a top ten finish this season. We're up against the mega-money bagged teams such as Fylde and Salford, as well as other financially well supported teams such as Harrogate and traditionally bigger clubs than us in Halifax, Stockport and Darlington. In my book these teams were always going to be challenging for the play-off places.

We were down for 3 seasons last time and that same period of time, which should enable us to build a decent squad from those names above, will also see the back of the majority of the teams I've mentioned.

Let's just hope we get third time lucky with the Board's appointment and manage a respectable finish to the season.

I'm actually struggling to remember them all now but do recall Kittrick being in there.

Nic,

Reportedly, the three unsuccessful interviewees were ex-Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick; the former Workington and Barrow manager Darren Edmondson......and a certain Neil Tolson.

Barry

Cheers...I'll blame my memory loss on still being shell-shocked after watching all 94 minutes of that debacle, you only suffered 20 minutes of it, which was probably enough!

I think Burr likes to operate with a healthy budget, probably far healthier than we'd ever be able to offer him. From what I heard yesterday of the other candidates when Young got the job, I just hope the Board complies a new list for interview.

I'd leave Lynch out and to be honest, if he's not on contract I'd be telling him to have a look at going back to Clitheroe. Totally out of his depth in this league, like a lot of them, and offers absolutely nothing as a footballer.

Although I wasn't expecting much from Sinclair, he didn't do too badly so maybe go with him up front with Reevesy and Lawrie behind them. If Goodall isn't fit I'd been inclined to put Patterson in midfield, where he was signed to play, and stick with Heathcote and Sumner at full back until we can get some new players in.

Oh please don't get me going. We want Liam Watson here as much as Neil Young. All his mates from previous clubs and plenty of hoof-ball. If he comes out of retirement to get our job that's my season ticket being returned!

NY looked a decent appointment after success with Chester. Never got going here.

Some absolute wasteful garbage brought in. Didnt seem confident with his approach to the game or tatics.

Onwards, and hopefully upwards.

I read on the County forum earlier that he used 46 players in 2013/14 season at Chester, when they had a successful season. God knows how many players we'd had got through had he stayed.

I never like to see a guy left unemployed, but there really was no alternative. I wish the guy well.

He works for MerseyRail doesn't he? I guess he didn't give up the day job.
