Nostalgia!
« on: January 21, 2011, 10:21:35 PM »

Can't believe it's 40 years tomorrow since I visited that dump in Kirkby in my Mk1 Cortina to see the Supers beat a Kingy-inspired (I think!) home team in a 9 goal thriller!
Didn't they also have stock car racing or speedway there?

Can anybody link the thread we had on this match some time ago? (I'm fairly hopeless finding stuff on here)

Wow!

A mark 1 Cortina, my dad had one as a sales reps car back in 1962-1966 - two different cars over the years. That's even more nostalgia - I had a Mark 2 Cortina from 1978 to 1980 - great cars.

Anybody else remember their cars from the past??

After "upgrading" from my Lambretta when nearly killing joe's mother when I wrote it off, I had two plastic pigs (one saloon, one "Del Boy") before my first proper car - a Mark 2 Cortina. After that I had an 850cc automatic Mini (they only made 50 !), a Singer Gazelle (falling to bits but still one of my favourites), a Mark 1 Viva and another Mark 2 Cortina. The last car that was truly mine was a dreadful Chevette in 1984 - since then my Mark 2 ex-wife provided the wheels, and now it's the "black" cab (which is actually platinum silver).

The first Reliant, a maroon Regal 3/25 saloon (ATD193A) went to a few away matches. I particularly remember five of us (including joe's mother) going to a Cheshire Floodlit game at the Tower Ground, New Brighton. There were about 30 Alty in a crowd of less than 50. The ground, an old velodrome, had a capacity of about 60,000 as I remember.

Passed my test in a Mark 1 Escort (Washwood Heath, Birmingham, 1971). No cushions, etc. It was as basic as a Vics supporter.

My first car was a 9 year old MkII Escort, previously owned by some old dear. It was in great condition and v low mileage and would've run for ever if only someone had told me you have to put new oil in it every so often! :-[

I love the blokishness of the cars so far on this thread......until now

Mine are
Renault 18
Ford Orion diesel - most wanted by taxi drivers
Peugeot 205 -  uber reliable
Vauxhall Astra - ex wife's ex car - automatic
Suzuki Alto -  driving position with knees in nostrils
Vauxhall Meriva - oops! too big
Citroen C3 - named C3P0

I preferred my mum's old cars: Morris Minor, Morris 1100, Renault 12, Citroen GS, Peugeot 304, Citroen CX Pallas (luxury on wheels but not as reliable as the Morris Minor!), Austin Maxi 1750 and Ford Fiesta - it sort of went downhill at the end!

A toss up between the Sunny (a real crisis) and the Midget (the equivalent of a toupee).
