Title: Eastleigh match thread
Post by: One Foot in the Grave on March 10, 2022, 08:45:39 AM
Eastleigh won 4-1 against Wealdstone last Saturday. It was their first win for two months, since beating Weymouth 3-2.

They haven't won away since November 23rd when getting a 1-0 result at Dagenham.

They're not exactly a pushover though, as a recent narrow 1-0 defeat at Boreham Wood indicates.

I wouldn't make any changes to the winning line-up from Tuesday, although if Harry Perritt isn't 100% Andy White was impressive when he came on and deserves to come back in.

Another tough game, won't be easy, but if we turn up and play as we've seen recently we can keep the points ticking over I'm sure. I guess barring any injuries the line-up deserves to be the same.

We were brilliant on Tuesday & the lads will be full of confidence, the only changes I can think of would be if TT is available in goal again & if White needs to come in at full back. Other then that we are 3rd in the form table & beginning to get a settled XI so let’s keep a settled team & build those partnerships.

Should be another win for me. Eastleighs away record is dire-11 defeats in 15 matches with 2 wins & 2 draws and with only 7 goals scored on the road all season-only Dover have collected fewer points than Eastleigh away from home this season so every reason to expect 3 points. I imagine they’ll bring about the same number of fans as Weymouth did so hopefully another large home turnout.

Can't see Thompson being available so it's same starting 11 if Perritt is available. Also thought White slotted in well so no worries if he starts.

Alty 3-1 Eastleigh (Hulme, Colclough, Mooney)

Gonna work on the basis that Thompson isn't available but Perritt is - same team:

               Drench
Perritt Mullarkey Cooper Jones
        Osborne Marriott
  Mooney  Kosylo  Colclough
               Hulme

Regardless of their previous away form, Eastleigh will be no pushovers - given their New Manager Bounce and news that their previous backer might be returning. We do seem to play a lot of teams at unfortunate times, this one looked like a good one on paper a couple of weeks ago.

Hoping for a narrow victory.

I imagine there thinking, why couldn't we have played these a month ago. Either way, agree with your line-up and it'll be a tough game as we know most of them are.

Worth noting that it's great to see the whole squad playing a part again now - I think we'd all be happy to see any 11 of around 13-14 playing.

We all know what Josh can do - and it sounds like White, Pringle and AJ L-S all played their part on Tuesday night too.

As Parky has frequently said, there are no easy games in this league.
Having said that, this is our best eleven and we are good enough to get a favorable result if we turn up again.
It would be really nice to reach 40 points and have a week to recharge before the Southend and Chesterfield games.
How good is it to be looking up rather than down?
Come on you Supers! 🇦🇹

Target should be 50 or 13 from 12 (4 wins, 1 draw)

Agree Jack-47 points and 17th last season. More points and a higher league finish then last season has to be the aim now. Also worth noting now after the 5-0 win our GD is looking a lot healthier and now one of the best in our mini-league at the bottom-could be worth a point in May. Also to note that even in a normal 4 teams relegation scenario we wouldn’t have been anywhere near going down last season & I’m confident that will be the case at the end of this season too.

After David Oldfield on Tuesday evening, here's another team managed by a City reject in the guise of Lee 'Bad Buy' Bradbury.

The only team to have lost to Dover this season, to date.

I know it's crazy but things like this really bring out the glass half empty side of me.

Having said that, I'm going for a 2-0 Alty win.

Colclough. Magnificent.

Whole team magnificent ! Hulme deservedly MOM, but I must mention Harry Perritt who looks better every time I see him. When Andy White came on and he moved into midfield he never wasted a ball.

The main issue isn't relegation it how we hold on to colclough what a tallent should be playing his trade in the EFL that's an issue for another day though all were again fantastic  today we go to Southend next week with no fear a great week 9 scored and nil conceded probably the form team in the NL and surely manager of the month for PP.

Well, that's about as comfortable as it gets.

I expected more from Eastleigh after their Wealdstone win, but maybe that's about it as far as their manager bounce is concerned. They were poor. Kudos to the fans that travelled.

Colclough was MOM for me (I still don't really understand why he plays for us) - but Jordan, Matty, the midfielders behind them... all magnificent.

A couple of 'free hits' coming up, but these lads should have every hope of getting something from them.

Perhaps he feels an allegiance to us as we stood by him during his legal matters?

Anyway, he's a cracking player.

As pointed out some time ago, he's contracted with us until the end of next season.
Seems to me we could be getting some big offers for him at the end of this year.
Having said that, if we go full time, he could hopefully feel the grass isn't always greener elsewhere and decide to stay where he's appreciated.

Colclough more than likely on full time wages here, plus sorvel and parky know how to get the best out of him and he respects them. Match made in moss lane

Yep-Eastleigh are indeed dire away from their own ground, I thought them worse than Weymouth in some ways. Saying that though for the second game running our finishing & ruthlessness when the opposition made mistakes (that we largely forced on them) was absolutely class.

We are now beginning to see the benefits of a largely unchanged team-Mullarkey & Cooper forming a solid partnership at CB with Marriot & Osborne screening the defence & giving our front four the platform to win us the matches. I thought everyone was at least a 7/10 today but Colclough & Hulme both absolutely top drawer & also a mention for Drench who hasn’t played a first team game for us for ages & has now kept 3 clean sheets in a row after coming in at short notice.

Two tough games coming up now but I think we are in a much better shape than at Xmas to go toe to toe with the big ex EFL sides.

exactly this . In this league you only need maybe 3 players of his ability and a solid squad to be in the play offs he takes players out of the game again and again .

Jordan was incredible again today we have become a team that press much higher up now rather than trying to soak up pressure

Some amazing goals again

Well done to all the team and management

The only thing poor about the pitch was the quality of the Eastleigh players on it.

another good performance, clinical and managed the game well. Did Drenchy make a save? Hulme is really impressing and getting better as gets match fit. Ryan is bang on it at the moment. Whole team is settled and has good confidence, long may it continue.

Sensible to make the changes today so as not to overstretch some of the key players.
We need to keep this starting eleven now and let them continue to build understanding and rapport.
What a great couple of weeks to be an Alty fan!

Another solid display by the lads today. Jordon led the line well yet again today. He is a strong lad who obviously keeps himself fit and I was glad he got the full 90 mins today, he is by far the best striker we have had for some time. Ryan Colclough gave another great display as did Harry Perritt especially when he stepped into the midfield role. Kossy ran his heart out yet again,.

We really do look good when we play like we have over the last few games, I, like others really hope we can keep hold of Ryan Colclough, we now have the makings of a really good squad and it will be a shame if we lose any of the star performers.

Keep it going lads it’s a pleasure watching you.

As for the Eastleigh manager moaning about the pitch is just a typical statement by a manager who hasn’t got the balls to admit his lot were second best. Man up fella.

Their best player was the lad playing at No 11 Ryan Hill. Looked a good player

Well done to Parky, Sorvs and the lads on another excellent result.
A very entertaining win with some great attacking stuff especially from Coco and Jordan, who were both superb again. We really did force their defence into mistakes and finished very well. Plus we even scored from a penalty.
Another clean sheet.
Great stuff from the whole team really.

Hope we put in a similar display next week at Southend, we were terrible in the home game (in the dark days of the ground closure issues, they were marginally less bad that day and got a win).

On the pitch comments, I would add, it drains very well, its overall condition is way above where it was over previous seasons. It is a little bobbly, but same for both teams. If anything its over draining and the sub soil (looks like sand) is not binding well with the grass and does give way under foot quite easily, especially over by the main stand, which is probably why there manager made comment. I'm sure the club will be speaking to the pitch providers for advice to remedy for next season.
