Presuming we do play Stockport next season, will it be our closest ever league away game?

Altrincham FC First Team / Nice gesture
« on: May 01, 2013, 04:48:41 PM »
Apparently the Brackley players and management paid for all their away fans to get into the game yesterday.

Perhaps we should suggest that ours do the same for us on Saturday...?

Does anyone know when, should it be needed, the Alty v Burton replay would take place?

Are we into 10-day territory now? ie it'd be on Nov 13th?

Altrincham FC First Team / Damian Reeves
« on: April 28, 2012, 05:50:28 PM »
Amid all the disappointment of today and the speculation about our squad and prospects for next, I would like to once again register my appreciation of and awed admiration for Damian's staggering achievement this season. 44 goals in 42 games is a quite incredible return and I fully expect it to be by far and away the greatest goal-scoring season by an Altrincham player in my lifetime.

Whatever the future holds for him, I wish Damian all the best. He has been absolutely superb this season and a pleasure to watch.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty's Van Persie
« on: December 12, 2011, 04:01:06 PM »
After reading some of the coverage of Robin Van Persie's superb 33rd league goal of 2010, I wondered how our own version compared. And I realised that Damian Reeves has now scored a remarkable 30 league goals in this calendar year (plus two in cups). It's a tremendous record and one that, in a strange way, I don't think he gets enough credit for.
I imagine the likes of John Rogers and Jeff Johnson scored 30 league goals in a year several times in their Alty careers and I'd guess McKenna might have done it in 1991 but has anyone done it more recently? Little or Thornley maybe?

Here's hoping 2012 is every bit as profitable for him.

Altrincham FC First Team / Righteous puddings
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:55:04 AM »
While I always enjoy John Laidlar's sarcastic grammatical interpolations into the various local newspaper reports of our matches, I think he's got this one wrong:

"In truth they got their just deserts [sic] given their limited attacking threat.."

Because 'just deserts' is right, isn't it? The word in this context derives from 'deserve'. So no need for the [sic].

When was the last time that we didn't play a single league game during the course of a calendar month (excluding close season obviously)?

There was a picth inspection after all and the match has been given the go ahead.

Altrincham FC First Team / No pitch inspection planned
« on: November 26, 2010, 05:31:16 PM »
I was wondering if there was a chance that tomorrow's game might be called off with the freezing conditions but this seems reassuring:
