Baldrick..tell us more on this....

For tonights game against Leeds, I've just heard that Millwall fans have to collect their tickets in a one hour time slot from a services on the M1?  Is this right?

Yes it is absolute nonsense. Tickets are only sold to season ticket holders and members. They must visit the Den to buy a voucher (no postal applications) and exchange it for a ticket at a still unknown motorway sevice station between 5pm and 6pm today. There will then be a massive police escort into Leeds due to arrive half an hour before kick off but wil probably be more likely to arrive half an hour after kick off. Yorkshire police say they have done this because they heard Millwall are planning a major attack on Leeds fans. Most of the fans i know are going up there to enjoy a party atmosphere as they believe Leeds are overrated and the 1-0 lead will be enough. If there is any trouble Yorkshire police deserve everything they get.

Hang on. Millwall have consistently shown themselves to have a significant idiot rump intent on causing trouble. Good on the police for trying their hardest to avoid a bloodbath.

After seeing Millwall fans again reverting to neanderthal mode against Hull in the Cup I'd have banned them from travelling anywhere to be honest.

Apparently Tesco Altrincham have decided to close their doors today in case of trouble.

in my opinion, in the last few years the police have increasingly gone back to the bad old days of crowd management. for a long time fans were treated with a bit more respect and so long as you didnt cause any trouble everything would be ok. its been really noticeable following west ham away the last few years that this is changing and you are seen as a potential problem.
i suppose to a degree thats ok, but when they then arbitrarily remove all your rights there is something wrong. imagine you are a millwall fan exiled in the north. you go home and away every week but for this you have to drive away from your destination to comply with police orders. i would be furious

think how you would feel if you were treated like these plymouth fans http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/Section-27-been-served-on-you.php . i know one who was there with his 14 year old son. he had taken the day off work and travelled for hours to get there but wasnt allowed to go to the game.
same thing happened to these stoke fans http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/Policing-of-Stoke-fans-raises-serious-concerns.php
the way the police acted at the recent protests in london are not a big surprise

Okay, if you're a Plymouth fan randomly barred from seeing a game that would obviously be infuriating (although that article was rather thin on detail).

But here we're talking about a club whose support have time and again caused serious damage to property and been responsible for violence against police and other supporters. Maybe if they could stamp out this sub-human element to their support, which I accept is not everyone, then they wouldn't needed to be treated like animals.

i dont for a minute contest that its difficult for the police, but as a veteran of the 70s and 80s my take is that treating evryone as a criminal, treating normal football fans like animals, was one of the contributing factors for the disasters that followed

This is stupid, silly and a complete waste of supporters time. Looking at the national rail timetable, i dont see any of them diverting to  a motorway station.

On the other hand, it is a great way to limit support entering leeds, (although i assume many will just turn up and watch in a local pub, and possibly cause more upset). Either way, the police do seem to be a little tinpot. It may be difficult for the police, however GMP shows it is possible to manage 3 premier fixtures in the same day with us, the little side at old trafford and city.

The main problem at Millwall is the club don't support the fans. This would never have been allowed to happen in the 70's when Reg Burr was chairman. He would have refused to play the game under these conditions. Now the club is run by outsiders who have no connection to them and don't understand the area, the fans or the history. I wanted to go to Leeds tonight but i refuse to be messed about by police so i will be watching on Sky.

Brilliant result. The referee gave the ferret fiddlers a silly penalty and tried to make the game last all night, but justice has been done. Hopefully Leeds will go broke and die. Horrible nasty little club.

I had a small bet on the fake Wombles winning the play offs. I can't see SC**thorpe beating them and Millwall are experts at doing the hard work only to mess it up at the final hurdle.

The good ol' British Bobby making a mess of things? NEVER SIR!

The best bit of modern technology so far is the camera phone - they simply cannot get away with random violence, physical and verbal threats and straight forward incompetence longer.  They watch us, we watch them watching us.  It doesn't build trust but that went west 25 years ago.

Anyway, Alty are magic.
