Altrincham FC First Team / Ballers achieves fame at last!

Ballers,

Good to see your anti-Steve King rant quoted in the 4th January 2009 issue of Non League Today...!

Altrincham FC First Team / Former Alty player dies
« on: January 03, 2009, 06:33:12 PM »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7809547.stm

George Heslop will know more details about him but I believe he played for the Robins circa 1963?

He was also an ex-Mansfield Town manager, so there will probably be a minute's silence for him at our game with them next Saturday.

Altrincham FC First Team / Possible further fixture disruption?
« on: January 02, 2009, 05:13:10 PM »
Our next scheduled home game in the BSP is Torquay United on 24th January 2009.

However, if Torquay defeat Blackpool in their FA Cup Third Round tie tomorrow, I note that the Fourth Round just happens to take place over the weekend when they are due to visit Moss Lane....

Similarly, we are lined up to travel to Kettering on 31st January 2009, which coincides with the FA Trophy Third Round.

Kettering are away at Tiverton Town in the FA Trophy Second Round and so it's conceivable that they could progress in the competition and scupper our scheduled excursion to Rockingham Road at the end of this month.

Plenty of memories on this list:

http://www.lusa.u-net.com/thruyearA.htm

I'd have to select this fixture:

26th December 1978

Macclesfield Town...1
Altrincham...5

Attendance: 1,105.

What better way is there to spend Boxing Day than to see the Robins trounce Macclesfield on their own ground?

The Alty goalscorers were John Rogers (2); Jeff Johnson; Graham Heathcote (pen) and Barry Howard.

Halcyon days.....and then Spurs away in the FA Cup to look forward to!

Altrincham FC First Team / Why we need to score the first goal....

Worrying statistic:

This season to date, we have yet to win a Blue Square Premier league match when the opposing team has scored the opening goal.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty v Southport Trivia Questions
« on: December 13, 2008, 12:21:07 AM »

(1) Name the Alty goalscorers in our last win against Southport at Haig Avenue;

(2) Who scored Alty's last ever goal in the Northern Premier League against Southport in 1979?

(3) Name the goalkeeper whose only appearance for Alty was in an away victory against Southport during the 1990s (that's an obscure one just for Brian Flynn!);

(4) Name the FOUR members of Alty's current playing staff and management team who have also played for Southport.

First prize for a set of correct answers: George Heslop will call round to your house and sing a selection of Christmas Carols....

457
Feel free to correct my arithmetic if my figures are incorrect....

The ideal course of events:

(i) an Alty victory over Southport on Saturday earns £5,000 in prize money courtesy of the FA;

(ii) the Burton Albion v Farsley FA Trophy First Round tie on Saturday does not end in a draw;

(iii) Alty play (and defeat) Burton Albion at Moss Lane next Thursday evening in front of the Setanta cameras and receive £8,000 from the TV company.

Quite a significant few days ahead then.

If all goes to plan, the club could even afford to buy George Heslop the following costume that he has set his heart on for Christmas....

Altrincham FC First Team / Luton Town v Alty: today's teams
« on: November 08, 2008, 02:56:35 PM »
Unable to venture to Luton today due to illness, so stuck in front of the computer...

According to the BBC:

Luton v Altrincham
Teams:

Luton: Logan, Gnakpa, Keane, Spillane, Beavan, Nicholls, Jarvis, McVeigh, Howells, Martin, Andrews.

Subs: Brill, Davis, O'Connor, Worley, Watson, Talbot.

Altrincham: Ralph, Lane, Doughty, McGregor, Young, Lawton, Peyton, Senior, Densmore, Little, Danylyk.

Subs: Coburn, Owen, Johnson, Meechan, Elam, Smith, Acton.

Two goalkeepers on the Alty bench - that must be a first!

459
Does anyone know if there will be any radio coverage of the FA Cup tie?

Will Flynny be submitting any reports to Radio Manchester?

Will anyone on the Forum be receiving and posting updates from Newcastle?

I hate the prospect of not being able to attend this game but my wife has generously decided to share the flu virus that has been afflicting her for weeks and we are now living in an officially registered plague house....

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty & Weymouth Trivia Questions
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:19:12 PM »
Something to pass the time before 3.00pm tomorrow....

(1) Name the player who scored Altrincham's first ever goal against Weymouth;

(2) Which English comedian's father's career in football included spells as (i) a player for Altrincham and (ii) the manager at Weymouth?

(3) Which Alty player scored his first goal for the Robins against Weymouth at Moss Lane back in April 1983?

(4) Which fondly-remembered Alty full back scored the only goal of his career with the Robins against Weymouth in the 1980s?

(5) Name the goalkeeper who played in Alty's first ever Alliance Premier League match against Weymouth;

(6) Name SIX players who have played for both Alty and Weymouth.

Anyone who answers all those questions correctly will win a free landscape gardening makeover courtesy of Dino Maamria and a signed photograph of Phil Taylor...

Altrincham FC First Team / It wasn't Dale Johnson's day, was it?
« on: September 21, 2008, 04:30:43 PM »
As well as being overlooked as an attacking substitute in favour of a centre half, I notice that he appears to have been 'dropped' from the original line-up at the 'Meet The New Recruits' event at Moss Lane last evening and replaced by Mark McGregor.

Altrincham FC First Team / Today's Alty Trivia Question
« on: September 13, 2008, 03:24:43 PM »
Right, something to exercise your brains whilst you kneel on the prayer mat and request an Alty victory at Stevenage....

Name the scorer of Alty's first ever goal against Stevenage Borough.

From John Laidlar's website:

OLD BOYS

From the we learn that "Former Bolton [and Alty] midfielder Tony Kelly is back at the club in a newly-created role of fans liaison officer.

Scouser Kelly said: 'I'm going to be working with the fans to help get feedback for the club. If there's an issue then hopefully I'll be able to sort it out for them, whether that ranges from catering to ticket concerns.

It's a very important link because I believe I have a great rapport with the Bolton fans. I had a great time out in Lisbon and Madrid last season on the UEFA Cup trips and they made me feel like a hero".
