Title: Unfair or unlucky ?
Post by: wayno on November 12, 2015, 01:00:47 PM
So for the 3rd time in a row ... Correct me if I'm wrong .. We are away on tv again at midday down south

Meaning the 9k for tv the away team only gets 1.5k rest goes to home team

At a guess travel for the club and accommodation would be up to 4K meaning 2.5 k out of pocket

Not to mention fans leaving at 6am or staying over

Unlucky or unfair ?

I am baffled as to why, in a season and a half back at this level, we are probably the only team who has not had a home game shown on BT Sport. It's not that I feel we ought to be on there a lot, they are naturally going to want to feature the bigger/higher placed sides when possible, but it's almost as if they have some issue with coming to Moss Lane.

It's quite ironic that the last two games they have featured Alty have been games I was able to go to, rather than being able to benefit from it being on tv. I'd much rather they showed a game at Moss Lane for this very reason.

Agree couple this with Salford getting back to back games despite us holding the most league scalps and Barnsley not moving  costing us it leaves a very sour taste

A lot of Alty fans haven't got the funds etc to go away to Bromley welling etc I can't believe are fans are complaining they now get the chance to see it

I'm looking forward to seeing it

What I am complaining about is how we as a club are worse off on the back of it

Don't think we are worse off they still have to pay us something

The club has said we are worse off - having to travel down overnight has cost £3500, compared to the benefit which is only £1500.  They have also said that we would not have stayed overnight had this been a 3pm kick off.

Aside from maybe the away team should get a slightly bigger percentage I think the main aspect here is BT Sport being located down that neck of the woods.

As are the bbc with Salford

The club will have 100 people in the bar so should make that much up but if them figures are correct they should give you more

I believe Mr Rowley said this is an issue he will raise with the rest of the National League chairmen as, as has been said on here, we will lose money out of this.

When you consider the relative success we have had against some top teams in this league you would have thought Alty at home to a top team would be a decent game to show.

exactly, we would have only taken 20 fans anyway

Win win

Management Guru & Hamilton - you are both correct.  In his programme notes last Saturday, Mr.Rowley actually quoted £3500 expenses and only £1000 reimbursement.

So the 100 people in the bar will have to raise £2500 PROFIT to cover the overnight stay.

Or £25 profit each - which is probably 25 pints each.

Good luck lads!

How cheap is the beer?

I estimated we are unlikely to be making more than £1 profit per pint, although its probably £3.50 a pint or so

Fair enough I think the club should be paid atleast what it cost them to stay but are fans do have a we been hard done to stance about anything.

I agree .. it should be 50 50 to each club or at least 70 30 to offset any lower attendance at the home ground

We were all quick to complain when we were denied television coverage in the first round, funny how the toast has fallen butter side down now.

There has to be an away team in the equation at the end of the day, its a shame its us but the whole thing they're trying to do on Sundays is daft anyway.

EDIT: Denied the Sunday television coverage, that is.

The Don Weston Lounge, surely....?

25th January 1969

Northern Premier League

ALTRINCHAM…8   NORTHWICH VICS…1

Freddie Pye had signed Don Weston from Chester City just 20 minutes prior to the kick-off and the ex-Leeds United striker proceeded to have an astonishing debut in front of 2,430 spectators. Amazingly, the Robins were 3-0 up after only four minutes. Weston scored with his first touch in the opening minute, flicking home a header from an Ian Morris cross, and then two goals from the right winger (who was on loan from Stockport County) duly followed. Weston added his second goal after 36 minutes but John Leigh replied for Vics three minutes later. Swindells netted via the penalty spot in the 64th minute and Alty’s midfield inspiration Mick Metcalf made it 6-1 after 79 minutes. Morris scored his third goal a minute later and then, with two minutes remaining, Weston stabbed the ball home to complete his hat-trick after being set up by Halliwell. This was Vics’ biggest defeat since Wrexham thrashed them by the same scoreline in 1960 and their manager Noel Kelly resigned in the aftermath of this ignominious drubbing. Weston played 16 games for Alty, scoring nine goals, before joining Bethesda.

The PA wasn't working, and it was half time before I found out who the miracle signing was. Alas, he never reached such heights again.
