"It was just two world class players going for a 50/50 ball."

John King's description of a crunching tackle on Ossie Ardiles in the FA Cup Third Round tie at White Hart Lane: 10th January 1979.

Opinions mean precisely nowt once the action gets underway. It's up to us to decide our own destiny and prove the doubters wrong.

I suppose we should be grateful they didn't put "town" after our name

I'd love to put "down" after theirs.

To be fair, I'm not sure what other conclusion they can come to from afar. I mean, the best research they could do is to come on here and the consensus would be that,if not uninspiring, the new signings haven't really got us turning cartwheels. The drop off to 17th place due to a small squad combined with second seasons struggles for promoted signs (in the absence of major financial backing) only lends itself to one conclusion - if you're on a supporters forum down South, I'd expect closer analysis from bookies.

I'm not saying I agree just that it's reasonable forecast.

For the record, I think they're over looking the effect even a slight improvement on our record against the bottom third sides will have. We've got some wriggle room there.

Also, not sure why so many just say Reeves goals give Alty a fighting chance, he wasn't just into double figures he was more or less the leagues leading scorer from open play. Teams by and large don't get relegated with scorers like that (Tony Gray at Telford being a statistical oddity of an exception I'd say).

Spot on Ballers
So called pundits / prediction analysts are only guessing anyway.....no matter who they are or what they know, but they look at key things : part-time, small squad, poor last ten games the previous season, no sensational signings closed season etc...........they will then look at all the other clubs and come up with a prediction...nothing more than that

So let's hope we are the surprise package and as Ballers says, if we actually pick up any points this season from the teams everybody else beats home and away, then that will certainly make a big difference
