Kettering to move to nene park?
« on: June 19, 2011, 08:30:21 AM »

Looking at the report on john laidlar's award winning official site about R&D possibly unlikely to survive and kettering moving into their stadium....and kettering chairman ladak saying the idea has positive feedback from the majority of poppies fans....

Just wondering how we'd react if our ground lease was due to expire, we had nowhere to play and had the chance to move into the marston's VS stadium or whatever it's called..........?

Can't get my head round that one...although it is the ultimate killer to your dead/dying rivals isn't it?

not sire ho far it is between the two towns - which at etrol £1.35 a go is a factor now.  Short term yes it could work, long term it opens the path for KTFC and R&D to merge.

Discuss...

9 miles between them. Ladak seems to be talking of it as a permanent home. How a team supposed to be representing the town of Kettering can be based permanently 9 miles away I really don't know. 9 miles is too far when we're talking about big city teams building out of town grounds (see Everton fans' dismay). For a little community club in Northamptonshire it's particularly off.

Interesting take on the whole thing here: http://www.twohundredpercent.net/?p=13421

maybe the questions is :  Are there too many professional and part semi-pro football clubs in England?

I can see why Ladak must be rubbing his hands with glee. RR is a dump and KT have hit several brick walls in trying to redevelop or move grounds in their own town. A purpose built venue just 9 miles away is now free for him to use, win win. Very much been spun by the owners on both sides that this is the ideal solution for all. The Kettering fans might not like it but I doubt there's much they can do about it.

Rushden should never have been created, why mr griggs didnt sink this money into kettering or northampton all those years ago beggars belief. They have gone under because there isnt serveral generations of support there with the emotional attachment to save them. Its like this lot up the road sharing with bury, its all very good when things are on the up,its having the support network and emotive attachment to do the dirty jobs and push that extra mile when the chips are down and the sh*t is hitting the fan.

Exactly the same distance moved by Sale Sharks when relocating to Stockport. And considerably less than Wimbledon's exodus to Buckinghamshire.

It could end in tears yet.
Firstly there will be the stand-off over money....Mr Cousins needs a tennant in his ground as much as Mr Ladak needs a ground. The battle over how much the rent will be will be a tough negotiation on both parties as each one calls the others bluff.

How many floating Alty fans would be bothered to drive over to Vics for a game........answer = very few. There lays the problem for Kettering in meeting the rent. As time wears on, the problem will be worse and Ladak will ask the usual question - "Do the people of XXX want a football club?"

He was in contact with people at Northampton with a view to putting money in. However, in exchange for the investment he wanted a place on the board. NTFC weren't keen on the idea. Consequently, he went elsewhere and the R&D story began.

No idea why he didn't consider Kettering. Perhaps he just realised it's a horrid little club and wanted nothing to do with it?
