Altrincham's joint Press and Media Officer John Edwards writes, "Altrincham have taken steps to try and guard against any threat of crowd disturbances at Saturday's game against Stockport County by announcing there will be a cash turnstile at the away end. Alerted by a suggestion some Stockport supporters had decided against buying a ticket for the away end but were planning to turn up at The J.Davidson Stadium anyway, Alty bosses made arrangements to cover any such eventuality without it jeopardising the safety of Altrincham fans.
'We have been made aware of the situation, and there will now be a paid gate available at the away end to maintain segregation,' said chairman Grahame Rowley. 'When we decided to make it all-ticket for Stockport supporters, we were not being awkward with them. Quite the opposite, in fact. The idea was, there would be no delays while people who didn't have the right money waited for change, and it should also give us a better idea of numbers, so we can make sure there is adequate room for them.
'It was supposed to streamline the whole operation of getting large numbers inside the ground and ensuring they weren't squashed once they were in. But if some are travelling without tickets, we've had to make contingency plans for that, because the safety and security of our supporters is paramount'".
