From southport, was excellent against us last year
-
Superb signing.
Should have got him in last season.
-
Looks like Buzz has got us a big hardworking no nonsense scouser in midfield which we have been craving for the last season or more.
Welcome to Alty Gary.
-
Good. It'll be better to see him in midfield than Lenighan

it will either work out or he goes back to southport after a month

Could he be on course to set a record as being the oldest outfield player to appear in a competitive fixture for Alty?
Any other 'oldies' who have turned out for the Robins spring to mind?
-
Jesus Christ, he could be 89 and he'd probably be better than half the sh*te we've had this season

Made me laugh that comment, with a hint of ironic truth to it.
He could get a seat at the seniors Xmas lunch as long as he performs well for us ..
-
If he's still got his legs he'll be a grand signing.

Crikey, that took ages to get done. Could change our season.

Not sure about outfield players but Ian Senior must hold the record for the oldest player to play for Alty when he played in The Cheshire Cup final a few years back.

He actually appeared for us again about 4 years later in the Carthium Cup at Ashton United!

I'm absolutely ecstatic to be honest - as someone that watches Rochdale quite a bit I've always hoped he'd pull on an Alty shirt further down his career.
Will make a difference - time will tell just how much.
-
I make it that Mark Ward was aged 38 when he made his final appearance for Alty in a 2-1 home defeat against Bamber Bridge on Tuesday, 6th March 2001.
So, Gary Jones would set a new record for an outfield player if he makes his anticipated debut for Alty against Stockport County on Saturday.
-
I couldn't care less how old he is as long as he gives 100%

I wasn't having a dig.....just outlining Gary Jones' potential induction into the record books of esoteric Alty trivia.

I believe Charlie Mitten was over 40 when he turned out for us as player manager.
-
Romeo 48 is correct - if Charlie carried on the the end of the 1962-63 season he would have been 42. He may also be the only Burmese born player to pull on an Alty shirt.

likewise wasn't having a pop at you either. Seen a lot of young lads come here and give nothing . Let's hope he does it for us

Phil & Bill,
I don't possess any records for the 1962/63 season, so I requested assistance from the Altrincham FC historian, namely the venerable Terry Surridge.
Charlie Mitten's date of birth was 17th January 1921.
Last league appearance for Alty: 19th January 1963 v Northwich Vics (1 -2);
Final appearance for Alty: 16th March 1963 v Hyde United (Cheshire Senior Cup) (0-1).
So, 42 is, indeed, the target to beat.....
