I'm puzzled about the connection between Easter and rabbits. I don't remember anything from my 60s /70s childhood involving rabbits and easter. When did this all start at n the uk, why?

I had assumed it was because rabbits are a symbol of new life, because they are, how can I put it, good at producing new life.
According to wikipedia, though, it was a German Lutheran tradition that the Easter Hare would judge children before Easter. I am not sure when I first heard of the connection with rabbits or hares at this time of year, but it was interesting to look into the question!

It was the rabbits that pushed the giant chocolate egg in front of Jesus' tomb!
