Title: BATH - MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on November 06, 2010, 09:07:06 AM
Massive game today, any radio link for the game?,if we could get 3 points ahead of what is arguably the toughest run you could have in this league it would be massive, and it would give everyone a lift to finally get off the bottom for the first time this season

So Lawton instead of Hewson the only change from last week. Hopefully that will allow Densmore to pay a bit further forward. The only player I can see getting beyond their defence is Clee though. Maybe Baynes if has a bit better game than last week. Need midfield players getting up to support Twiss.

Glad to see Williams is fit to play.

Quite hopeful after last week.   Come on Alty!

I'd take a point today. Glad Williams is playing, but we are a little weaker for there being no Hewson (where is he?) COME ON ALTY!

I know it's easy to say, but when one weak team sits back against another weak team, it's an open invite to the attacking team. I'm surprised at Kenny, but full credit to a spirited Bath team and pretty decent radio commentators too.

The commentators were decent, fair and blissfully devoid of the habitual patronising and ill-informed drivel that we usually have to suffer.

Feels like two points squandered....but it sounded like we were grateful to escape with a draw in the end.

To suggest that the substitutions determined the result is strange given a) Alty were under pressure substantially for the whole of the half b) when Twiss came off ; Alty were already behind.

Really disappointing obviously, but here's the form update:-

http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/formGuide/confprem?count=8

Of course 3 points would've been better, but in a way having lost a 2 goal lead with 20 mins to go and not losing is a good sign as far as I'm concerned. Sure we've got some tough games coming up but we've got to play them sometime this season and why not now after 1 defeat in 8? If we can maintain the massive improvement in results we've had since Eastbourne even with the odd Histon and Heed thrown in, we've got every chance of getting out of this.

Title: Re: BATH - MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: Number23 on November 06, 2010, 05:19:06 PM
It sounded like we took the lead against the run of play but we had a good spell when we got the second and we should have been able to win from there. So it seems like two points dropped to me.

I can understand bringing Danylyk on because I thought he made us more solid when he came on last week.
Title: Re: BATH - MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: PukkaPieman on November 06, 2010, 05:27:38 PM
Bath have done this a number of times this season, coming from behind, we hung on well for the last 20 mins, in the scheme of things,..... this was a good result.

We are now only 4 points off safety, only 1 defeat in 8 games. After Eastborne anybody out there really thought we would be here. I think we are looking much more solid again and when Denham and Smith are back, I think we can take points in our next 3 games, especially pleased to see Clee performing and staying fit, the cup is over half full now for me ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D

Quite shockingly they appeared to know the names of the Altrincham players.
Title: Re: BATH - MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: PukkaPieman on November 06, 2010, 05:47:42 PM
From Blue Square Premier we learn the following usual drivvle.........

"League strugglers Bath City and Altrincham did battle at Twerton Park, with both teams desperately in need of the three points.

It was the Romans who seized the early advantage with midfielder Nicky Clee putting the visitors ahead in the 38th minute.

Michael Twiss doubled Adie Britton's sides lead with a goal just after the break before Lee Phillips pulled one back for the Robins in the 63th minute.

The striker completed a brace 11 minutes later to draw the visitors level and neither side was able to deliver the killer blow in the closing stages".

Just when we thought we had decent commentators, the crap journalists return :D :D :D :D

Fair play, Alty were never behind as you quite correctly state but the lead was already eroded when changes happened.

As we have seen the axe fall previously for supposed "dips in form" who will suffer now?

I think some people are a bit overly upset about this result.

We are bottom of the table and have just got 7 points from 3 games, not bad at all.

I'm as disappointed as the next man at lost a 2 goal lead but at least we got something. Bear in mind our 2 best players (in my opinion) are out injure.

Keep the faith people

Just got back from the match. To be honest it is two points lost as we were 2-0 up when Densmore missed what looked like a sitter.
I thought we were the better side in the first half winning a lot of the 50/50's. Stu pulled off 2 great saves in the first half.
We sat back after Densmore missed his chance. I wasnt in a good position to see it but it seemed their second goal was offside.
However Stu pulled off another brilliant save in stoppage time.
My MOTM - Stu. We need Smith back asp. Somner is making a big difference. We still need a class target man thought their defence today found Twiss a handful.

Fair play, Alty were never behind as you quite correctly state but the lead was already eroded when changes happened.

As we have seen the axe fall previously for supposed "dips in form" who will suffer now?

Who has had a dip in form?  We have just got a point away from home.  Something after Eastbourne I thought we may never get again.  There were some good performances all round today.

Bath goals were well worked and of a good quality

If anyone had any doubts about Stu,they were cleared today. I fantastic push onto the post just before our 1st and an amazing one-handed safe when wrong footed in 94th minute were the pick of them. All the players going to him at the final whistle showed how influential he was in earning the point.

Special mention also for Twiss, who is starting to look like the player we thought we'd signed. Gets hold of the ball well, and a great finish too.

It is definitely a point gained in my eyes. At the end of the day, everyone plays each other twice, and if we take 4 points off Bath, that is a decent return. And there is no reason why we can't take points off Wimbledon and Luton. Last season were both 1-0 defeats where we could had easily got something from them.

We were bound to tire/lose concentration with us travelling down on the day.

Oh.

A quote from the manager regarding the above point.

" I have always said an overnight is no guarantee of points, but it does guarantee you will have the best possible preparation. "

Dont really see what the massive deal is?

I thought we did OK today.  Clee was a threat and Twiss looked better than last week, but still not capable of running for 90 minutes.  Baynes set pieces are good but open play wasn't really up to much - I was impressed with his energy last week but not so much this week.  Coburn at his best with several great stops from long range efforts.

Weakest links - officials for not spotting a lot of Bath niggly fouls, shirts pulls & playing the man when going for headers etc but also Milne - he backed off everytime the winger got the ball and I don't think he made a tackle all second half, the winger just ran passed him.

Given our ability to throw points away when playing near me (FGR & Salisbury are the other close teams) I was pleased we held on in the end.

So? We're expected to pay for the club to stay over (and that is We as in the fans) for them to capitulate as they normally do when doing the 'part time & proud' act.

It sits very uncomfortably with me that we (the fans) should all of a sudden be paying for player stay-overs.

If it was such a good idea then it should be worked out at the beginning of the season and worked-out accordingly.

I'm sure someone will state that it isn't as simple as stopover=3 points, but we are part-time.

Bath isn't a remote part of Scotland, it's a few hours drive.

Wow..someone has definitely upset you somewhere.

The club asked the fans if they would help out as the manager had said he felt that it helped us get a three points?

People who wanted to help did so, those that didnt want to help (I'm guessing) didnt.

I think it was exactly the right thing to do and if Kenny thought it would help then we should do all we can to help him.  You were always going to get someobne who said "waste of time that was" if we didnt win.

Maybe staying over and training this morning was the reason we even got a 2 goal lead..

Bath was never considered as a stopover as it was on a Tuesday.

Capitulate as they normally do?

We didnt capitulate today and under Ken McKenna I havent seen us capitulate at all..in fact haven't we made more comebacks?

I agree re Stu completley but trust me it wont stop the doubters- just like when people wrote off Little with 2 seasons to go

Stu for me rates right up there with Jeff  Wealands

The team played well for long spells yesterday and I for one could see the benefit of an overnight stay. If you don't want to contribute that's your choice as a consumer, some of us did and we saw some clear benefits as a result. An overnight stay isn't a guarantee of 3 points and never will be. However, for you to come on here, having not even seen the game, and say we "capitulated" is absolute and utter bollocks. Those who were there know different - how do you know the overnight stay didn't turn a defeat into a draw?

I think you need to think before you post negative drivel in future.

it was the first time I have seen Alty this season and it was a cracking match.  We are definitely not bottom of the league calibre on today's showing.  I have seen many worse Alty sides over the years.

Stuart Coburn was magnificent, Michael Twiss held up and distributed well, Marc Joseph played well.  Bath contributed to a very entertaining match and if Bath had started the way they played the last 30 minutes, I would never have imagined a 2-2 outcome!

Alty were under the cosh from the moment Twiss put us 2-0 up and perhaps reacted by going too deep with no natural outlet but after the equaliser we clawed our way back inot the game.

A draw was a fair result overall - and I suspect if Densmore had made it 3-0, it could still easily have been 3-3.

Things from yesterday

STU COBURN = amazing. Anyone who ever doubts him watch the highlights. Save at the end was WORLD CLASS... and the players reactions to him showed how good it was.
OVER NIGHT STAY = Better preparation and benefits the team. I only travelled from Daventry and needed to stretch the old legs for a bit so has to be a benefit.
SUPPORT = As it always is, AMAZING, don;t get to go to many games but am always so proud of the support when I do. BRILLIANT

My last game was a 5-0 defeat to Eastbourne Borough and that was a shambles to put it lightly, yesterday  I saw a set of players that battled and tried for 90mins and had BELIEF. To me we didn't throw away a two goal lead, we got ourselves in a good position and came away with a good draw. That must surely have been a "Must win" game for Bath City and they failed. It was good to see manager \ assistant active and shouting instructions for the match rather than with fans\officials...

An amazing improvement and NOT A DEFEAT. A draw away from home is fine by me.

Oh and just to add. I arrived at Bath City to be greeted by a drunk drag act stumbling, swearing and singing down the road and then turned the corner to be told I had to wait while some 'crime scene' pictures were taken.. Lovely place.
