Title: Good wishes for the new season
Post by: flaggerstu2 on August 15, 2012, 02:45:26 PM
Looking forward to the new season. This is the second year of L.S's plan. This now looks more like a new team, apart from one or two, so lets give them a chance to show what they can do over the first couple of months.I have a question,I have been watching Alty for 40+ years now and cant remember us starting an FA Cup campaign so early, anybody help??

Echo your good wishes but a reminder that we agreed last year on here that LS never said there was a two year plan.  No manager would come in a say that, it basically writes off your first season.

I think the FA Cup final is early again next year due to the Champions league being at Wembley again.

O to be young

Sadly too young to experience White Hart Lane in the 70's and Anfield in the early 80's, I had to make do with joyful trips to Bloomfield Road & St Andrews.

Losing 3-0 at home to Mossley sadly seemed to have set a precedent this century. The 3-0 cup defeat away at Rushden & Diamonds in 2006 was dire and we aint scored in the FA Cup goal since 2008.

Bring on the new season  ;)

1990 - September 15th, 1st QR, Alty 3 Rhyl 2
1992 - September 12th, 1st QR, Alty 3 Curzon Ashton 0
Previous to those you have to go back to the early 1970s, e.g.
1971 - September 18th, 1st QR, Alty 1 Buxton 0
1972 - September 16th, 1st QR, Buxton 0 Alty 0; replay September 18th, Alty 4 Buxton 1

That 0-0 at Buxton was my first ever away match on the coach. We went on to lose 0-1 at Moss Lane to Notts Co in the First Round Proper. it was never a pen

3rd January 1981. Score was 4-1 and Heathcote scored the penalty against the current English champions (who went on to win the European cup that year I think) who fielded a pretty much full strength side. My geekish mug was splattered across the back pages of the MEN as I waited to board one of the fleet of coaches that day.....I may even post the photo if I'm feeling brave (and dig it out).

Anyway, former glories, let's make some new memories. COME ON ALTY.
