Interesting verdict on Vics' trialist
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:47:48 PM »

From the bbc website:
"Former Barcelona full-back Gbenga Okunowo has joined Northwich Victoria on trial. The 29-year-old Nigerian will make his debut for the Blue Square Premier club once he receives clearance from the Football Association. "

And then Sherlock went to wikipedia:
"Gbenga Samuel Okunowo (born March 1, 1979 in Ibadan) is a Nigerian football player, currently on trial at Northwich Victoria of the Blue Square Premier. Injury and lack of talent has affected much of his professional career."

He has represented Nigeria at the 2000 African Cup of Nations and the 2000 Summer Olympics."

Got to be dissapointed with his career - Camp Nou to an industrial estate near Sandbach

"Injury and lack of talent has affected much of his professional career"

Lol very harsh for the bbc! We'd all be professional footballers if it wasn't for a lack of talent.

The "lack of talent" comment was taken from Wikipedia.

i love wikipedia but the article for altrincham fc could do with adding some more to the history section as it starts in 1979.

As opposed to Northwichs history going to end in 2008.

Seriously though how can anyone expect the club to survive if all the rumours are true. For founder members of the Football League it is a disaster.

Surely they must be at a stage of reforming as NVAFC?

Probably.

However, it must be hard to accept. Let's face it, they aren't going to be able to do an AFC Telford or possibly FC Halifax Town and race up the leagues. At Conference National Level they only pull in 750 punters on a good day. They'd save their club, but probably consign themselves to many years at a very poor level.

I ALMOST feel sorry for them.

This lads played about 10 games in 10 years. He'll probably end up being a ringer in our staff v supporters game and limping off injured.

"Lack of talent" Quality!    How has his career gone this badly wrong its hard to believe? Training with Messi and co and representing nigeria in the cup of nations and the olympics and know hes on trial at northwich? Very strange.

10 years ago messi would have been 10? That might explain it then... ;)
