Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Some Alty Fans at Curzon
« on: April 15, 2017, 08:22:28 AM »
I am sure Clayton McDonald has endured much worse in his League career or in that high profile trial in which he was acquitted! He didn't look too traumatised at the end of the game when he rushed past me, leaving the ground before I did, and showing more pace than he ever did during the game.

However, he was terrible yesterday just as he was in his last game at Stockport, and this really isn't the fans' fault. Their actions are a reaction, not a cause. I am off to see a game in the bottom division of the North West Counties League today and expect to see better performances.

I would be more worried that, although I celebrated the slightly  fortunate win, any win in this meaningless end of the season will be seen as  reason to appoint Matt Doughty.

Credit to the board for a very good decision.

There are more decisions to come in the future, of course, but I am very happy with this one, at least.

Shaw Lane beat Witton Albion on Tuesday, so that should mean we are bound to go there while Witton are left to try to "achieve" promotion through the playoffs.
Who would have thought, when we beat Barnsley in the Cup last season that we would be playing a league match in the town so soon, but against the town's second team?

I think it took them so long to get the ground up to the bare minimum standard for National League North, only moving   in at the start of January,  that they were never able to keep up with their success on the field of play.
I missed the game this season because of the postponement, but some of the arrangements seem ludicrous.

The main stand is apparently reserved for season-ticket holders, but others can sit there if they don't turn up. This means that you take a seat, then, somebody may turn up at 2:59 and you are turfed out, and all the good standing viewing positions have gone in this ground with very little terracing. This happened last week, I am told, so I am not surprised  they have been barred from entering the play-offs.

There might be some tweaks to your suggestions;  for example, I would say accompanied children for £1, or possibly even free, rather than all "kids go free", but the general idea has to be right.

We kept the prices at the same level for this season, when the season ticket actually offered fewer games, and this hardly led to a quick return back, so, yes, if there is no reduction, I would expect a big drop in crowds on the grounds of understandable cynicism.

It's a good setup at Wright Robinson, and I am pleasantly surprised that we save money by training there, so, even though it's further away (not for some of the players, though), this looks like a good move.
I wonder if this means we will have a friendly with East Manchester, who are based there.

It's difficult to give any really informed comment until further details come out, but it's certainly positive that people are talking, so well done to both sides for that.
However, I am worried when people mention delaying the managerial appointment until the investment situation is sorted. The latter could drag on and on, even while progress is being made, and we do need to hit the ground running next season. The deadline was too early, clearly, and I suppose we could extend it a little and invite further applications, but that would imply none of the current applicants are suutable, which I can't see happening.
I don't have an answer, but can see problems whether we appoint too quickly or slowly.

Another thing to consider is that a few teams share with other sports so that has to be considered when fixtures are drawn up.
Mickleover, Stourbridge and Matlock all share with cricket, Grantham with athletics and Shaw Lane with rugby union (and have lots of postponements), while Newcastle Town play in a velodrome. There may be others I have forgotten.
I can't see us playing AFC Rushden and Diamonds next season, even if they sneak through the playoffs, as they are groundsharing at Kempston, near Bedford, next season, so will surely head south.

It's all very strange, although nothing should surprise me this season. It's an enlightening interview and I don't blame John the messenger at all.

The interview answers are  very reasonable - we should have had three penalties and arguably did deserve to win - until the last section. Doughty says he was appointed in January, but he returned to the club in September, and became caretaker manager in December. I appreciate it takes time to build a team, but he has been around the club nearly the entire season.

Then certain of the more senior players want to play for him but may not want to play for another manager, even though three of them have previously done so here? What? I know managers in a strong position may feel they can dictate their terms, or even attempt to bully, a board, but we have just been relegated.

Staggered. I did think the last 12 months may have been an elaborate and unfunny April Fools joke, but it's April 2nd now.

If i were the Chairman who had overseen there club being relegated twice in successive seasons and was aware of people who had the wherewithal to take the club forward I would be gone in a heartbeat.

Perhaps one of the reasons he is sticking around is maybe he is hopeful of some sort of recognition for his work in overseeing the CSH getting off the ground in the form of an award (MBE) etc ...

Just a thought ........

There is plenty of people that deserve some sort of recognition for services to Altrincham fc and don't get it.

That's right. Harry Twamley got his BEM after 54 years of work at Curzon this year (so Mr Rowley may have a few more years to wait yet), but made a point of saying it was also an award to all the volunteers at the club.

The club is a shambles.

Where the hell is the leadership?

It does seem that way, and the leader looked very happy at Salford today.
The next step to possibly turn this, not around, but at least in the right direction, is the managerial appointment, which could give a reboot, and hope of a fresh start for next season. I won't hold my breath, though.

Then, it's season ticket renewals or the lack thereof.

I was there and was surprised to see we went down fighting. We certainly had decent claims for three penalties, but this doesn't hide, although no doubt some will try, that this was a deserved relegation on the field of play. No applause from me at the end of the game.

Very difficult to say how many away supporters were there, as there was no segregation nor chanting. There was an annoying home fan with a drum and a lot of people drinking beer, in some cases a lot of beer, on the terraces.

Excellent eloquent post earlier by Ballers.

You might like to include Adam Griffin from last season. I can't find trace of him having played anywhere since Young released him.

He signed for Ashton United after leaving us but not sure if he ever played a match for them.

He did play a couple of matches when he first joined Ashton in September, but isn't listed as a player there now.

The team for Ashton United 's last match included Cavell Coo, Simon Woodford, Mark Lees, Ryan Crowther and Jody Banim (substitute and player-manager). No wonder some people are so keen to watch Ashton United with all these great names from the past. To be fair, one or two could probably get into the current team.

Where's young Clayton been?

Think he's been turning out for Droylesden?

1 all at half time

He had been at Droylsden, but he was basking in the sunshine at Bradford last week.
Final score 1-1 in a game which petered out somewhat, and where captain Joel Swift, who has played for the first team in the past,  went off injured. Probably a fair result. Wythenshawe are pretty high in the table, but we did field a strong team.
The first team management were watching, by the way
