Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Managers meeting
« on: June 23, 2017, 12:05:54 AM »
Take home points were; Joe mwasile has in fact not signed for us. We're looking at a backup keeper who was in attendance tonight. The new physiotherapy/sports science team is hoping we'll have far fewer injuries and the players and management seem confident of promotion.

The proposed backup keeper is Ryan Neild whom I saw playing for Airbus UK Broughton last season (he conceded four goals, but that was against The New Saints, to be fair). Interesting and surprising, to me at least, to see that Clayton McDonald is still at the club, too.

It was a different sort of evening. Phil Parkinson spoke very well and seems to be a very innovative manager with his efforts to build up team or club spirit with the players and supporters bonding. The proof is what happens when the season actually starts, of course, after one or two such events recently, but, despite that cynicism, I do feel better after this meeting.

Barnton have announced that Northwich Victoria will be playing there next season, subject to a few t&cs being finalised.

There are some interesting replies on the twitter.

I'm sure it will soon be Teresa Mays fault

Typical behaviour by her not to turn up at last Thursday's EGM.

That is very unfair to Teresa May who is (apparently) a retired soft porn model. As for Theresa May, though...

I think your summary is very accurate.
At the meeting, GR was pressed to give an answer, and then gave his approximate "valuation" to the best of his knowledge.
Personally, I blame the illuminati.

Yes, as I have said on another thread, they have concentrated on the team so far (Kieron Lugsden and Simon Lenighan were both there last season) but the need for a new ground will divert their attention.
Rumours are that that new ground is Athersley Recreation, by the way, which I assume will be for 18-19, after they have satisfied the gtound graders.
Good luck to Damian there anyway.

When the EGM is taking place regarding the shares/investment? I have a feeling it is this week sometime.

That's right. It's Thursday 15th, starting at 7.30 PM in the CSH.

I thought he was always technically sound but was fine with him leaving as he probably wasn't that arsed about playing for us once his dad had gone. He was unfairly made a scapegoat during the National League relegation season, other players were far more disappointing that campaign.

Didn't he actually score goals once Lee had bombed out  - cannot be bothered to check the records

Yes he did. He scored two goals in the first two games after Lee went, plus one later on.
If anything, it seemed as if some pressure was lifted from his shoulders then, but he was always subject to some unfair criticism because of who his father was.

Altrincham FC First Team / Shaw Lane moving to new ground.
« on: June 08, 2017, 07:23:52 PM »
In a joint statement, Shaw Lane and Barnsley RUFC have announced an amicable separation and that the football club will be moving to a new ground.
There is no mention of where and when, but surely this can't be for next season at this stage in June, but who knows. Another case of a club who have pumped plenty of money into the playing side of things, but with no regard for infrastructure.

One for the historians, but it appears that Bobby Jeffrey, who played for us in 1964-65, sadly has died at the age of 74 in Cambridge. Among other clubs in England, Scotland and Wales, he played for Celtic and Scotland U23s. His wikipedia entry, not updated with his death, is below.
Does anyone know any more about his career with us?

Much depends on Tim Deasy's fitness, or, more to the point, his expected level of fitness.

If, as ExGK said recently, he will be up and running to start the season, then we will only sign or attract a young, up and coming keeper, who is prepared to learn and wait for his chance.

If however,  we know that Tim Deasy is bound to miss a few, or more, games, then we can attract, and need to sign, a more experienced goalkeeper, such as Jay Lynch, as an example.

I just hope that last season's tales of players making "comebacks" from injury, and then breaking down again, are all behind us.

Match now at BPA, same date/kick off.
I thought that FA protocol dictated that the lower graded club had to play at home. Are they going to bill it as BPA Reserves v Alty ? The thought of THAT appals me !
I am in Bradford at the moment where the news of this match is being met by a growing surge of, well, of indifference.

It is very rare, but we have entertained FCUM when they were in a lower division (and had no ground of their own) and travelled to play Crewe Alexandra first team in a friendly.

I think PP is trying to sign as many players as Neil Young! Welcome anyway Jerome and Tom.
Oddly enough, Tom Peers was given his debut at Chester, his first club, by Neil Young. Sean Miller was too, though, and he was a rare cause for optimism last season.
Welcome to the club to both.

Not the day to discuss this emotive topic in too much detail but my view...

Anyone who criticises the club for the timing of this is beyond help, the letters would have been landing on the shareholders doormats this morning (and then leaking out on here by lunchtime), today had clearly been planned as the big reveal for weeks. It's just a horrible awful coincidence but this is one thing you can't blame the club for.

On the second point, I don't own any shares but everyone who does must absolutely vote yes. This is the only way to make us a viable prospect for a serious outside investor. I do think GR wants to leave but in a way that allows him to say he's passing it on to a custodian who can be entrusted fully with the future of the club. The yes vote opens this possibility up and we must thank John King to seeking to do what he now thinks is right and giving us this potential opportunity. Don't let short term dislike for Rowley cloud your eyes to what will be in the best long term interests of the club.

Agree with all of that. It's not the day to consider or discuss it (I am a shareholder and have received the letter but just glanced at it), but I would be surprised if I don't vote yes when I do come to think about it properly.

We're in a pub league, he'd boss it at this level. Sign him up. He'd also be better with a proper manager motivating him. His form under Tolson was no co-incidence.

This. He's a known quantity and that's half the battle in the non-league recruitment lottery.
recruitment isn't a lottery if you have a decent manager, which Parkinson maybe I wouldn't know.

We will find out, but he does seem to like to work with his own known quantities , in the shape of players he has worked with before.  I may be wrong, as I am starting to lose track of all the new  signings, but I think James Poole is the only one he hasn't worked with previously, although his former Salford colleagues may have put a word in for him...
