Mossley away.
It must be a good few years since we played a competitive match at Seel Park.

Altrincham FC First Team / Penalty shootout v Ashton United
« on: October 18, 2017, 11:59:00 PM »
Anybody who was at this match will know that the penalty shootout was in the new ABBA format, where each team has two successive penalties following the first. Apparently, every other tie which went to penalties was in the traditional ABAB format, and I am told this is still correct unless competition rules dictate otherwise.

So, Ashton could potentially appeal, if my information is correct, and if they can be bothered for this minor competition because of a referee's mistake. As the score was 3-3 after four penalties each, I can't see how the format made a difference, anyway, but just hope a more important match doesn't have to get postponed.

Shaw Lane v Mansfield must be in with a fair chance of being on live TV & quite possibly on the Monday evening if that's one of the TV slots, so we could have a midweek off!

I thought exactly that too, although there are other ties such as Hyde U v Milton Keynes Dons which must have an  equal chance. While I wish him no ill health, it would be amusing to see that nice Mr Evans go more and more purple after Damian Reeves scores against his team.

Darius Palma has been playing in the reserves this season,  although he didn't play on Saturday. However, Laurence Taylor and Max Harrop did, and Taylor scored in their rare win, so I would hope and expect them both to be involved tomorrow. No sign of Tolani Omatola, though, which does seem odd.

Very much a game of two halves.  It must have been some half time talk or something as I think we had gone ahead even before the manager, kitman & co. had emerged down the tunnel.

Besides the other good performances, Tony Thompson had to do more work than in most recent games, and produced a couple of superb saves.

I expect a few of the fringe players to get a run in the League Cup while we get ready for the top of the table local derby on Saturday. It's good to say top of the table, whatever league we are in!

Did Ken McKenna ever play in the NPL?
Good suggestion. When he left us in 1992, he spent two years at Barrow who had just been relegated to the NPL.

Stourbridge v Halesowen is a proper local derby which gets a very good crowd whenever it's played at a convenient time, so I always expected that to be the best crowd of the day.

A very good result today, even if, as a few people have said, we didn't play particularly well, not that we were troubled at any stage.

News just coming through, by the way, that Rushall have parted company with Wayne Thomas after another heavy defeat.

A fortnight ago against Farsley Celtic. Hancock 2, Peers, Johnston, Hulme, Hannigan.

Sorry!

Yes, it was reminiscent of Saturday when our early missed chance could have changed the game.
I feel a bit sorry for Nantwich as their second choice keeper clearly wasn't fit at the start (nor was Clayton MacDonald, but they didn't have to pick him!) then got worse, before being replaced by the young lad, who did okay.
From our side, a very competent and professional performance and nice to see the goals shared amongst the team

Incredible. After our excellent win today, I am in a good mood so the article mostly made  me laugh hysterically, but who could possibly have thought it was a good idea to write this?
It doesn't look like he plans to leave soon.

I am puzzled how Bembo-Leta gets so much criticism. He seems a strong, level-headed player and we haven't conceded a goal for ages, so I wouldn't mess about with the defence, while agreeing Hannigan was excellent today.

Good luck with the new ground. I will be going to Stalybridge on Saturday, but will try to get to Hollyhedge Park at some point this season - maybe an early evening kick off in April, assuming you don't already have floodlights?

I can remember the club having a really good run in the Vase, and, checking the records, see this was in 84-85 when the Amateurs made the 5th Round. They beat Rushall Olympic 6-0 in the 4th Round, before losing 2-1 at Halesowen Town (familiar names nowadays!) and I think played a couple of league matches at  Moss Lane to avoid a fixture pileup.

The good news is that Stalybridge won today (watched by 191!) so both Burr retains his post, and we are not complacent.
